00:00Thank you for taking my call. Great show as always. Our track record of giving
00:05players away and trading them has not been good. I know over the last general
00:09manager, but being a Berliner away, Serger away, Purcell away, Upton away, the
00:16right Martinez away, Castellanos away, and the catcher, we got nothing in
00:20return. We've got somewhat a pitcher that we could build around. This guy is a
00:24solid, he's another Berliner to be honest with you. We had another, and we have two
00:28other pitchers that are pitching very well. We're paying the price for five
00:32players not playing very good. Our first baseman was in a minor league, the
00:36shortstop, carpenter, and Meadows, and those five had let the Tigers down.
00:43And I don't know, I'd want to build through the draft. All organizations
00:47build through the draft, and we're gonna have a good team. I want to see two or
00:51three young pitchers, and we'll find the hitters. They'll come along. Yeah, and
00:56thanks for the call, Paul. And building through the draft in baseball, it's
01:00tough to do. It's such a crap shoot in baseball. If you look at like past first
01:04rounds, and you look at the names, you'll be surprised at how few players make it
01:09to being the guy you think they are. And playing that game, it takes so long. You
01:15have to have such a deep system that you start to replenish it. I think the
01:19Tigers have done a nice job of drafting the last few years, but they've got some
01:24misses, man. I mean, Torkelson and Mize could be two of the biggest misses ever.
01:29Both 1-1, and you know, where are they now? One's on the injured list again, and
01:37the other one's back in the minors trying to find his swing. It sucks. Those
01:43are two pieces you absolutely counted on being cornerstones for this franchise,
01:48and they're not. And you know, he mentioned the, Paul mentioned the five
01:53guys that have been disappointing this year. Yeah, he's right. They've been
01:56disappointing this year with, without question, those players. And you need to
02:01see growth from others. And yet here they are coming off a three-game sweep of the
02:04Reds on the road. First time they won back-to-back games since the beginning
02:09of June. And no, I'm not leading the brigade of, here we come! No, not even
02:16close. Because this week, this is going to be a tough week. Leading into the
02:20All-Star break, you got games against Cleveland and the Dodgers. Oh joy. I guess
02:26you have a really good idea of what this team is looking like when this series is
02:30over with. And I think the draft, I believe, is Sunday in baseball. And
02:37that's a whole other question of what direction they go in the draft. Do you go
02:41and draft the high school kid? Whether it's a high school pitcher or a shortstop?
02:45Because those are the two guys that are high school guys. Or do you
02:49have an opportunity to draft the guy, a college bat, that can just crush the ball
02:54and draw walks like nobody's ever seen? Because there's a guy like that, too. And
02:59if he's available at 11, I'm taking the big fella who plays first base and walks
03:0578 times last year and had an on-base percentage 225 points higher than his
03:11average. But that's a discussion for later in the week. 248-539-9797 is the
03:16telephone number. More of your texts and calls as well. But hey, Piston
