00:00Well, how about that? Tigers take care of business and they are on to the American League
00:05Divisional Series. And Gator, that was exciting, man. That was exciting. That was fun.
00:10Was that good?
00:11That was really, really cool. We got a lot to talk about with that game yesterday. But
00:16first things first, Andy Abanez, God bless you.
00:20Man.
00:21You are awesome. All he does is rake.
00:26Just left-handed pitching. He was in a rough stretch towards the end of the season. But
00:34this is the postseason, Doug.
00:38Yep.
00:39Opportunity.
00:40Yep.
00:41And he took advantage of it. And what a rope that was. Never a doubt in my mind that that
00:46was fair. Never a doubt in my mind.
00:48Really?
00:49Nope. I just, the angle off the bat, I'm like, that's down the line. That's going to, I said,
00:53right up the way, that's going to score three. And Torkelson chugged his way around, slides
00:59in the home for the third run on that double. LFG.
01:04You know what's funny?
01:05Here we go.
01:06I tweeted out this question this morning. Has anybody seen that ball land? I don't think
01:11there's one replay that shows the ball land. I really don't.
01:15Well, it certainly didn't show it last night.
01:17Well, Gator knew it, though.
01:18Gator knew it last night. I'm just, that's a double.
01:21I'm not saying it's wrong.
01:22No one is saying it's wrong.
01:23The umpire emphatically said fair ball. I mean, immediately when that ball went into
01:28the corner, my eyes went to the umpire.
01:31Even the, even the view from, from the stands and left field, you still don't see it.
01:35Doesn't help.
01:36Cause it's, it's too low.
01:37Doesn't help.
01:38That was the greatest hit I've never seen.
01:40Exactly. I mean, honestly, no, I mean, we tweeted out this question. Has, did anyone
01:44see on, on, on Andy Abana's basis, clearing double that anyone see the ball land? And
01:50there's a lot, I mean, everyone to a person that has tweeted back, thank you for all
01:54your responses, um, said no.
01:57And they're trashing ESPN, but for that, that wall should be clear. I wish I was as confident
02:05as Gator. Cause I was like you, Doug, I, I just waited the umpire, listen to Michael
02:08K. I'm like, somebody tell me this is fair, please, please.
02:11And when they say fair and you see the umpire point, I'm like, oh my God, I let out a huge
02:15yell.
02:16Me too.
02:17I hope that guy wasn't at that bar in East Lansing again. Okay. Two second delay. Yeah.
02:23I thought about when they went to the ninth, ninth inning, I thought about our friend up
02:26in Northern Ontario who called yesterday said that the game got so tense in game one that
02:31he went and started watching TMZ Tik TOKs to get caught up on Brittany. And by the way,
02:37the latest is her ex-husband's getting a divorce now again, K-Fed? No, uh, Paul Solas. Yeah.
02:46I don't know. What is there happening to K-Fed? He did have talent. Tons. Anyway. Yeah. So
02:52I wondered if our guy up in Northern Ontario ever flipped over to watch, to watch TMZ.
02:56I'm not going to lie. I flipped TMZ for a little bit. It's a, it's a common as one does
03:02when they get nervous watching sporting events earlier in the game though. I mean, cause
03:05it was only on from like three to four. So, yeah. Um, anyway, just an unbelievable win
03:12in an unbelievable run in what is becoming a very believable team. You could, I can buy
03:18into these guys and their roles and what they are doing. I mean, so Houston did it the conventional
03:25way. They paraded out a dominant starter and the Tigers worked their way through four,
03:29maybe five pitchers before they chased him. And the thing is those pitchers flirted with
03:34trouble and kept getting out of it and kept getting out of it and kept getting out of
03:38it. And then there are scoreless game and then Hunter Brown makes a mistake and Hunter
03:41Brown was great. Make no mistake about it. He was great. And, but Parker Meadows, Parker
03:46Meadows made him pay with just an absolute beautiful Wednesday afternoon, post-season
03:54yank job off a foul pole and, and, um, and that was just a, I mean, I'm so pumping my
04:02fist and then they come back in the job thing. We'll get into the job thing. He didn't get
04:06hit hard. I think nerves maybe showed up when he hit the first batter with the first pitch
04:10without, without question, but he didn't really get hit hard. Maybe the ball that was
04:13hit to torque was hit hard and torque made a good play and then couldn't get the throw
04:17at home. But I mean, that, that, I mean, I can't wait to hear from people like where
04:22you were when a Banya has cleared the basis because it was a weird, it was a weird day.
04:30That was an afternoon start. So I think there was a lot of people in their cars and there
04:34were two things that kind of led to this. One is John Jansen went to pick up a son from
04:40school in the middle of this game and was listening and they had pulled into the driveway
04:45and we're sitting in the car listening when a bond has hit the, hit the double that cleared
04:49the basis. Nice. We also got the following tweet from ghost Malone, ghost Malone, 90
04:58on Twitter. Is he related to post Malone? Probably. Yes. Gator. I'm sure he is. He tweets
05:02at us parked at a red light. Then he puts in quotes and all caps, fair ball. Every car
05:09at the light started honking and people were cheering. It was magical. That's awesome.
05:15That's awesome. Yep. That's the kind of thing I want to hear. And you know, we talked about
05:19yesterday with Hunter Brown on the mound and he's from St. Clair shores and pitched to
05:22Wayne state and you know, people wanting him to, to pitch well and I'm like, I hope he
05:27gets lit up. I'm glad the way it worked out. He was phenomenal. I mean, nine strikeouts
05:32and some five and two thirds innings only gave it the two, the two hits. He walked a
05:36couple of batters. He was great. Yep. And the Tigers just do what the Tigers do. They,
05:41they persevere. They keep going, keep pushing forward. And even when they get down, they're
05:46never out two to one, they're down. And it was a, that was a strange inning with Jackson
05:52Job in there. And it looks, there were a couple of opportunities. It felt like that, uh, that
05:58they could have helped him out with and they didn't, you know, he had the play to the first
06:03base that, uh, the, the Torkelson couldn't make the, with the throw home. Cause if, if
06:07he makes a good throw, he's out by a mile, it's easy. And then he's still basis loaded.
06:11And then he had that sacrifice fly to, to, uh, right. Uh, to foul territory barely makes
06:17the catch and not a great throw coming home. Probably should've gotten that. That could've
06:23been a double play. And I wonder what it would've been like if there had been, uh, if there
06:27had been an out with a runner at third, have even tried to come home on a, on that.
06:33Well, there was no, there was no downside to throwing. And so he did hesitate, which
06:40might've cost him, but I mean, look, did you know, one of the lessons out of yesterday's
06:46game is you can sit here and others will probably continue to doubt that the Tigers have a roster
06:53worthy of, you know, making this kind of others might do it, but it's about, it's a
06:57team sport, right? But yesterday and, and Kang made this point, I stealing your thunder
07:05here, Kang, but it's a, it's a great point. Yes. Yesterday proved that they don't need
07:08to be perfect. They weren't perfect. They made some mistakes and I, AJ Hinch didn't
07:15get every call right either, but they did. They, they, they still won the game. It's
07:21not like they are so talent challenge that they have to be perfect. Every game. No, they
07:25just rely on somebody else. Every night, last night, Andy Abana is come on up, be the man.
07:32Uh, he was, he was great. And then you watch that ninth inning and here comes will vest
07:38dude. Well, I mean, just throwing gas, man. These guys are throwing gas. Didn't brisky
07:44hit a hundred miles an hour. I'm like, come on. That's amazing. Well, I really, I mean,
07:49I think the, I mean, nothing is underrated cause we're paying attention to everything.
07:54But while Brown was emptying the tank, the Tigers had, had, had Holton and Hanafi and
08:01Herter and brisky all matching him, all matching him. And they actually took the lead. Right.
08:10And you know, that was when, if I were a Houston fan, I'd be like, my God, before they put
08:16Joe Ben, before Joe was even warming up, before they showed him, I went to my phone
08:20and I went to one of the apps and wanted to see, okay, who's, who's left in, in the, uh,
08:25in the bullpen that they could use. And I'm thinking, are they going to go job? Are they
08:28going to go, are they going to let Gunther, I think at the time for which if, if, if God
08:34there was going to pitch or whatever, I'm like, who are they going to let somebody pitch
08:37like three innings?
08:38You're just going to let them go. The answer was no. I think it was the first time in major
08:44league history that a team has won a playoff game where nobody pitched more than 1.2 innings.
08:48One of those innings. Yeah. So that this morning, crazy. Um, let's just say it. It's, it's an
08:54incredible story. And Detroit is embracing this run as the tigers continue to ambush
09:00major league baseball and all the conventional wisdom out there. 2, 4, 8, 5, 3, 9, 97, 97.
09:07Where were you when a Banias cleared the basis? It's Carson Anderson, 97, one, the tick.
