00:40Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Lesoth Studios
00:44in Havana, Cuba.
00:46We begin with the news.
00:47The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, requested the Attorney General's Office
00:51to assume the investigation destabilization attempts by the far right.
00:55The Attorney General, Tarek Willem Zab, informed that the Public Ministry appointed the 83rd
00:59National Prosecutor's Office to investigate and sanction these new threats of assassination
01:04against the Venezuelan President.
01:06The order is given after the Colombian parliamentary group Autodefensas Conquistadoras de la Sierra
01:11informed that they were contacted by groups of the Venezuelan far right with the purpose
01:15of destabilizing the country.
01:17The Colombian paramilitaries requested a meeting with the authorities of the country to deliver
01:21more information so that the respective judicial proceedings may be initiated.
01:30Also the Venezuelan President, Nicolás Maduro, presented a completely remodeled Integral
01:34Diagnostic Center, La Urbina, located in the Petare Parish of the state of Miranda.
01:40This was the largest health center built by Commander Hugo Chavez in the sector.
01:44The center has modern medical attention and hospitalization services and is oriented to
01:49provide attention to more than 12,500 families of the area.
01:54The head of state highlighted that works such as these are made possible thanks to the guidelines
01:58of the so-called one times ten of the good government, a social program that attends
02:03to different problems in the country.
02:12At the end of this activity, the people of Miranda welcomed the presidential candidate
02:16for the great patriotic poll.
02:17With a great congregation, the people of the Petare Parish raised slogans reaffirming their
02:22support to the candidacy of the current Venezuelan President and condemned the unilateral sanctions
02:28of the United States.
02:29In this context, Maduro reaffirmed his position in defense of democracy.
02:36A class.
02:40This is the electoral ballot.
02:42There are 10 candidates, 38 political parties.
02:45Do you want more democracy?
02:48For those who say there is a dictatorship here, who of these 10 candidates is qualified
02:53and prepared to lead the government and the reigns of Venezuela?
02:57I asked the opponents of the independence, are any of the nine opposition candidates
03:01prepared to govern the Venezuela of the 21st century?
03:07Meanwhile, the election campaign in Venezuela continues.
03:11Our correspondent Yunus Enar visited the neighborhood of Petare in Caracas and interviewed
03:15its people while President Nicolás Maduro held a campaign rally.
03:18Here is what the inhabitants of Petare said.
03:23Today we are visiting Petare in the eastern part of Caracas, Venezuela, one of the biggest
03:29barrios, roughly to be translated slums, of entire Latin America.
03:36Its full name being Dulce Nombre de Jesús de Petare, the neighborhood is home to approximately
03:42500,000 to 700,000 people, and it has received today the president of the Bolivarian Republic
03:50of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, to hold a speech here.
03:54We asked the residents what they are thinking about the upcoming elections in Venezuela
04:00on 28th of July.
04:04We see the joy of the people, the youngsters, the women, the elders.
04:08It is incredible, despite the blockade and the economic warfare, there is conscious people
04:13supporting on the streets our Bolivarian revolution.
04:22With great happiness, love, great enthusiasm I see in these elections, and I swear to God,
04:30with our people, our brother Maduro continues to be the same person and will be elected
04:36by our people with the same joy and the love of all of Venezuela.
04:41Petare is a popular neighborhood, a poor neighborhood, and its citizens are struggling hard to earn
04:48their keep.
04:49Still, they show a high degree of consciousness, including in international matters and regarding
04:56the U.S. pressure against Venezuela.
05:04We expect that our president stays, because a lot of things happened here in Venezuela,
05:10and he has been the president who has taken the things at hand.
05:17We don't say we're good because of the effects of the blockade, but we are in better shape
05:23than before.
05:26Here in Venezuela, we have resisted and struggled at the side of our president.
05:33Things were very difficult in 2015, very difficult.
05:37We had to wait in line for hours to get food, but step by step, we are overcoming the crisis
05:43with the support of our president.
05:46Venezuela is not Libya, it's not Macri, it's not Argentina.
05:50Here we are reconfirming the people's struggle.
05:52We will win.
05:53And then came President Nicolás Maduro to Petare.
05:56He arrived here with thousands of people waiting for him under hot sun.
06:03We are supporting our president Nicolás Maduro consequently.
06:07With Maduro, the revolution progresses.
06:09He is our only candidate who supports the people.
06:12All our progress comes from his hands.
06:18Maduro, we are with you.
06:19We defend you.
06:20We defend the Bolivarian revolution.
06:23Whatever it takes.
06:24We are here and carry the legacy of Hugo Chávez.
06:27The people of Petare express their support to Nicolás Maduro
06:32ahead of the presidential elections July 28th.
06:35Unusuanabi, Caracas, Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
06:42The state prosecutor in Bolivia, César Seles,
06:44offered details about the failed coup d'état in the country.
06:47There are currently 24 people implicated in the case labelled as Coup d'État 3,
06:51although a total of 70 are under investigation.
06:54During an interview, the prosecutor assured that
06:56in the hearings of precautionary measures,
06:58six formal charges have been presented.
07:01He also revealed that during these judicial processes,
07:04important elements were revealed related to the ownership of crimes
07:08that imply sentences of up to 25 years of imprisonment.
07:11These were obtained both through the statements of the accused and in various raids.
07:21There is a probability of authorship of the crimes charged,
07:25that is to say, there is sufficient evidence that the crimes have been committed
07:30and that there was a coup d'état in Bolivia.
07:32Based not only on the evidence,
07:34but also on the statements made by the defendants in these hearings
07:38within the framework of their right to defence
07:40and when they gave their informative statements to the public prosecutor's office.
07:44But not only that, there are other elements.
07:47Homes have been searched,
07:48offices have been searched,
07:50military premises,
07:52an endless amount of information and documentation has been collected
07:55and, as the Minister of Government told you a few days ago,
07:59it is a complex investigation.
08:01But it is already determining and clarifying those three phases of a coup d'état,
08:06the planning phase, the execution phase and the consolidation phase.
08:11This under the 24th Ordinary Meeting of the Council of the Common Market Mercosur
08:15was held in Paraguay,
08:17where the attending foreign ministers discussed methods of progress with third countries.
08:21During the gathering it was officially unveiled
08:23that for the last time in this government's term
08:25Uruguay will assume the pro-temporary presidency of the alliance.
08:28The country's foreign minister, Omar Paganini,
08:31said that they will base the exercise on free access to move forward in the next six months,
08:36the improvement of the free trade zone,
08:38the logistic infrastructure of transport and connectivity
08:41and the deepening of an external agenda for a better international insertion.
08:45Uruguay has described Mercosur's external agenda as critical for its government.

09:15Welcome back.
09:40In France, a new popular front made up of the left-wing parties
09:43leads with 184 parliamentarians the political forces represented in the National Assembly.
09:48According to the Interior Ministry,
09:50behind the left-wing is the ruling Junta,
09:52formed by the ruling Renaissance party,
09:54and its allies with 166 seats.
09:57The far-right Marine Le Pen was relegated to third place with 143 seats.
10:01Although none of the three blocs achieve an absolute majority,
10:04the new popular front could call for a new leftist prime minister,
10:09given his victory in the second round of legislative elections held on Sunday.
10:26In this context, French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal arrived Monday morning
10:30at the Élysée Palace to tender his resignation to President Emmanuel Macron.
10:34The Prime Minister had announced his resignation on Sunday
10:36after the far-right's defeat in the legislative elections.
10:39So far, President Macron, unlike his right-hand man Gabriel Attal
10:42and Marine Le Pen's extremist formation, has not commented on the results.
10:46The new popular front leader, Jean-Luc Mélenchon,
10:49called on the head of state to entrust them with the formation of a government.
11:01We are not ready to enter into prayers with his departure to make combinations.
11:05Especially after having shared tirelessly
11:08after seven years his policy of social mistreatment,
11:11of ecological denunciation.
11:14The French people, I come to confirm the good reasons
11:17in which we must do especially after the vote spoke.
11:21After which policy of social mistreatment
11:24and of ecological denunciation
11:27must be reaffirmed by the French people.
11:31After which popular front,
11:34despite all the challenges of all the defamations of all the insults,
11:37we have the victory today that the people have given us.
11:43Coalition leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon
11:46stressed that President Emmanuel Macron
11:49has a duty to call on the new popular front to govern.
11:53He has to admit his defeat
11:56without trying to manipulate or change it in any way
11:59the Prime Minister must.
12:08Who never received the confidence of the National Assembly
12:11comes from leading the campaign lost by his party
12:14and received a massive popular challenge vote.
12:23The President must and has a duty
12:26to call on the new popular front to govern.
12:56A big Bolivarian embrace.
13:00Brazilian President Lula da Silva
13:03expressed his happiness on the victory of the left in France
13:06and the Labour Party in the UK.
13:09Through his ex-account he said
13:12I am very happy with the demonstration of greatness and maturity
13:15of the political forces in France
13:18that have united against extremism in some legislative elections.
13:21This result, like the victory of the Labour Party in the United Kingdom,
13:24shows the importance of dialogue between progressive segments
13:27in defense of democracy and social justice.
13:30It should serve as an inspiration for South Africa.
13:37In the United States on Sunday
13:40President Joe Biden kicked off his electoral campaign
13:43by assuring his voters that he is prepared to face Donald Trump
13:46in the presidential battle.
13:49This way the President visited the state of Pennsylvania
13:52and asked if he had the support of his party
13:55to which he responded affirmatively.
13:58The confirmation comes amid voiced concerns
14:01from fellow Democrats regarding his physical and mental fitness
14:04to serve a second term
14:07especially after his performance
14:10on the last presidential debate.
14:13While attending the campaign event in Philadelphia
14:16Biden avoided addressing the crisis on his speech
14:19and sought to reassure voters he was up for the re-election battle ahead.
14:49And I honestly, God, have never been more optimistic
14:52about America's future if we stick together.
14:55I really mean it.
15:13This Monday Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Texas.
15:16The storm registered winds of up to 90 km per hour.
15:19Local authorities reported that Beryl entered the country
15:22through the Matagorda County but will continue moving inland
15:25resulting in torrential rains and potentially deadly storm surges.
15:28In this context authorities issued emergency alerts
15:31and stated that storm surges of between 1 and 2 meters in height
15:34are expected.
15:37Currently more than 90,000 households are without power.
