The Miami Hurricanes have beaten out the Georgia Bulldogs for the commitment of four star cornerback Chris Ewald Jr. What will he bring to The U?
Transcript
00:00Chris Ewald has chosen the Miami Hurricanes.
00:03And when I talked about suspense,
00:06when I talked about having to sweat it out
00:08for the last couple of days,
00:10sounds like the Miami Hurricanes
00:12had to battle the Georgia Bulldogs for Ewald
00:15up until the very end.
00:17Even this morning, there were reports
00:19that Ewald was still undecided.
00:21A lot of reports last couple of days
00:23have been characterizing this as a 50-50
00:27between the Dogs and the Canes.
00:30Ultimately, home is where the heart is
00:33for the Chaminade Madonna star four-star cornerback
00:37who was a Michigan verbal commit for a while,
00:41backed off of that after Jim Harbaugh left.
00:43And then you had a feeling it was gonna be
00:46probably a closer to home in-state school for him.
00:49Georgia got into the mix late.
00:51Ultimately, Miami wins out.
00:53And man, Chaminade, we'll talk about it.
00:56Such an important pipeline for Miami
00:58after what they just landed last year
01:00and what they're getting now
01:01with this verbal commitment from Ewald.
01:04One of the most technically sound cover corners
01:06in the United States of America.
01:08And when it came to sharpening his skills,
01:11surely all of those battles that he had in practice
01:14the last couple of years with Jeremiah Smith,
01:18top receiver in the country in the last cycle,
01:20JoJo Trader, who's of course a Miami Hurricane,
01:23one of the top receivers in the last recruiting cycle.
01:27He had to go up against these dudes in practice.
01:30Iron sharpens iron.
01:32And Ewald can reunite with Josiah Trader
01:35and his former defensive backfield partner, Zaquan Patterson
01:39as both of those former Chaminade players are at the U.
01:42They're gonna be true freshmen this year.
01:44He's also, seems like he's close.
01:46He's a seven-on-seven teammate with Amari Wallace,
01:48the defensive back from Central
01:50who just committed to Miami last week.
01:52And Ewald, by the way,
01:55the third Miami commitment from South Florida, right?
01:59Miami's land some out-of-state players.
02:01They've landed a lot of players from Central Florida,
02:04but with the guys from Central
02:05who committed here recently,
02:07Amari Wallace and Ezekiel Marcelin,
02:08and now Ewald out of Chaminade,
02:11you're starting to see the floodgates opening
02:13when it comes to the South Florida players
02:15committing to the Miami Hurricane.
02:17Chris Ewald Jr., 21st-ranked cornerback in the class of 2025.
02:22He's the 24-ranked overall recruit.
02:24That's elite stuff there in the state of Florida.
02:28Six-foot-tall, 170 pounds Ewald.
02:31Here were some details.
02:32He had the official visit was to Miami two weekends ago.
02:38Then he had the official visit to Georgia the following week.
02:40And I think one of the reasons why we started to sweat
02:43this one out a little bit was this was actually outlined
02:46by one of the Georgia insiders at their 24-7 sports page
02:50where he said, in his words, again,
02:52this is what the Georgia insider was saying,
02:55that after Ewald's visit to UGA,
02:58he went a little radio silent,
02:59and he thinks that's why there was maybe starting
03:01to be a little concern on the Miami side.
03:04And that radio silence, as he described it,
03:07was probably Ewald and his family.
03:10It seems like he has a great family.
03:12His father, I see him a lot on social media.
03:15Just seems like a wonderful family.
03:17They were probably taking some time to themselves.
03:20Let's discuss, let's think it over.
03:22I get it, the Georgia Bulldogs want you.
03:25You gotta consider it.
