00:00Whenever we get new interns in, I like to put them through some safety training so they
00:04get hands-on experience.
00:06I can tell you what to do, but until you put your hands on it, you don't really understand.
00:09I mean, you don't really learn from a book as much as you do hands-on.
00:13Now, once I've got them taped up, you're going to be closing them out.
00:18Just pretend it's open.
00:19You and Eddie are going to work together, and I'm going to be watching.
00:22All right.
00:23Whenever I have somebody like Eddie that's been around for a while and I've been teaching
00:26him, it really makes me feel a lot better to sit back and see that they can teach other
00:31people what I've taught them.
00:32If you see something, you let her know, okay?
00:34All right.
00:35I'm watching.
00:36Hey, watch that back leg.
00:37It looks like it's about to roll.
00:38All right, give it a good tap.
00:42See how it raises his head up like that?
00:43Mm-hmm.
00:44Now, go underneath.
00:45Look at me.
00:46Go straight down the middle with the...
00:47There you go.
00:48Give it a shake.
00:49Is it going to roll?
00:50Okay.
00:51Now, take your other hand.
00:52You're going to transition around this way.
00:54With both hands, pin the head straight down, and you tell your partner to jump.
00:58Jump.
00:59You're good.
01:00Okay.
01:01A little bit smaller than an alligator.
01:02That goes without saying, but...
01:03Yeah, keep your head off that center line, both of you.
01:05I was not expecting it to fly into my head.
01:08That's for sure.
01:09A little bit smaller than an alligator is hard not to bang your head.
01:12Yeah, that's true.
01:13A little headbutt never hurt anybody.
01:15All right.
01:16Yeah.
01:17Pin the head straight down.
01:18Tell your partner to get out.
01:19Okay.
01:20Go ahead and get out.
01:22If you're comfortable with it, we can take the tape off and do it for real.
01:25I want to be able to say that I have closed it up with my own hands.
01:28Doing it with your own hands, there's something thrilling about it.
01:30Anytime I have a new intern or somebody that's that willing to go hands-on with a hot gator,
01:36that makes me a little nervous.
01:38You remember what you're doing?
01:39Mm-hmm.
01:40Where's your thumb?
01:41Tucked.
01:42Okay.
01:43My hand is just hesitating to go near it, so I got to fight my instincts and actually
01:47go for it.
01:52All right.
01:53Go ahead.
01:54Underneath.
01:57Go.
01:58Woo!
02:00Pull, pull, pull, pull.
02:04She was focused.
02:05She stayed calm, and she listened to instructions.
02:07Emily did great.
02:09There you go.
02:10Woo!
02:11See, now I feel more comfortable taking it out on a nuisance call.
