00:00:30All right, welcome into another edition of the Patreon Nation Podcast.
00:00:33Your boy, Pat Lane, as always here with my guy, Matt St.
00:00:36Gene.
00:00:36This episode, as all episodes, are brought to you by PrizePix and GameTime.
00:00:41PrizePix is the official daily fantasy sports app of CLNS Media.
00:00:45And GameTime, of course, is the official ticketing partner of CLNS Media.
00:00:49And Matt, let me tell you some, let me tell you something, my friend.
00:00:52It is a crazy time of year right now.
00:00:54The Boston Celtics are up 2-0 in the finals, the finals finals, not the
00:00:58Eastern Conference Finals, the finals finals.
00:01:01Tom Brady's jersey number is getting retired on Wednesday and the Patriots
00:01:04are at mandatory minicamp this week.
00:01:06What a freaking week for, for New England sports fans.
00:01:10It's just been, it's been pretty awesome.
00:01:12It's nice.
00:01:13It feels good, especially, you know, after the Bruins go out and
00:01:16you get to be sad for a minute.
00:01:18You know, PWHL Boston loses at home, like game five in the championship series.
00:01:24But we're back, you know, anytime you get to celebrate Tom Brady, it's
00:01:27going to be Brady Belichick and 60,000 of their closest friends, 70,000 of
00:01:33their closest friends up in Foxborough on Wednesday night for the first
00:01:37time since January in 2020.
00:01:40So that's going to be a lot of fun.
00:01:44Yeah.
00:01:45Yeah.
00:01:45It's, you know what?
00:01:46It's really it's one of those things for me that the Patriots just, there was
00:01:52some bad blood, obviously when Brady left, there was some bad feelings on both sides.
00:01:56Um, and you know, we're all ready to kind of turn that page.
00:02:01I suspect, and we'll get into this a little bit, but I suspect he'll be signing
00:02:05a one-day contract with the Patriots.
00:02:06He's never officially retired officially, right?
00:02:09I mean, clearly everyone knows retired, but he's never officially, officially
00:02:13retired, my suspicion is that he'll be signing a one-day contract with the
00:02:17Patriots and officially retiring, uh, on Wednesday night, again, I have no intel
00:02:23on that, but that feels like something's going to happen.
00:02:25They're going to unveil a statue for him.
00:02:27Don't know where it's going to go.
00:02:28Don't know what it's going to look like, but they're definitely
00:02:30going to unveil a statue for him.
00:02:32Um, and so it's going to be a heck of a night.
00:02:34Bill Burr is opening up the festivities.
00:02:37They got people performing and everything like that.
00:02:39It's going to be, it's going to be awesome.
00:02:41I mean, shoot, I wouldn't put it past them to have Jay-Z there to perform,
00:02:44uh, you know, what's called a PSA, a public service announcement as he comes
00:02:48back in, I can't imagine it's going to happen, but like, it also wouldn't
00:02:52shock me if, if Jay-Z walk out of the tunnel and Tom Brady comes running
00:02:55down the sideline of Jay-Z performing public service announcements live.
00:02:58Uh, so I'm, I'm ready for everything.
00:03:02What are the odds?
00:03:02We see Tom Brady in a Jersey.
00:03:05Um, yeah, I feel like we might get one of those moments again.
00:03:09Uh, the odds of Tom Brady crying at some point, I think, or minus 10,000.
00:03:14Oh yeah.
00:03:14It's like good.
00:03:16The one day contract thing seems like the type of thing craft would really want.
00:03:20Like that's the type of thing where he's going to sign the one day contract.
00:03:22And then that, like the actual piece of paper is going to go up in the
00:03:25Patriot's hall of fame in some memorial.
00:03:28Like that's not memorial.
00:03:30He's still alive, but in whatever, as it were, what I thought was interesting
00:03:37is somebody in the media had said that the media, they're not allowed
00:03:41to record anything video was can't take any videos at the event, which is
00:03:45interesting, which with that type of thing, it tells me that there's some
00:03:49kind of surprise that they probably want under wraps that they don't want
00:03:52getting tweeted out before it happened.
00:03:54I would think so.
00:03:55Yeah.
00:03:55Yeah.
00:03:56Um, very excited for this though.
00:03:59I should be a really cool occasion.
00:04:01Great time to celebrate the greatest to ever do it and doing it while it's
00:04:05mini campus, perfect timing too.
00:04:07Cause a lot of players are in town, like coaches in town, players in town.
00:04:12Uh, so I love it.
00:04:13Yeah.
00:04:14Yeah.
00:04:14Also, uh, James over here says that the 12th of June is
00:04:17national Superman day.
00:04:19So, I mean, you got that going for you as well.
00:04:21So Ray, what's up, Ray?
00:04:23How are you doing, buddy?
00:04:24Uh, thanks for coming through to Ray.
00:04:26Hello, Scott.
00:04:27Thanks for coming through.
00:04:28And, uh, and Dan saying that they're going to have a hair all time
00:04:33shrine to Brady in the hall of fame.
00:04:34I love it.
00:04:35Um, Roger Goodell, however, Scott, I'm sure will not be there.
00:04:38You'd never know, I suppose, but you know, um, it'd be kind of funny if he
00:04:42was, and we could all boom, but nevertheless, uh, that would be
00:04:46really funny if he was like the special guest, like that would be hilarious.
00:04:53Yeah.
00:04:54Yeah.
00:04:55Um, anyways, so yeah, so it's, you know, it's going to be a great event.
00:05:00It's going to be one of those things where the nostalgia, right.
00:05:03It is just going to be, you know, palpable.
00:05:06It's going to be awesome.
00:05:08Um, you know, and, and that's you, you yearn for those days.
00:05:12And what's crazy about it is that.
00:05:14I mean, the Patriots won the super bowl, what, six years ago, seven years ago, I
00:05:19guess, because no, they won in 2019, five and a half years ago, like, that's it.
00:05:26And it feels like another lifetime.
00:05:28Right.
00:05:28But that's, that's one of the things for me that like, it's really
00:05:32cool, um, to look back and see that.
00:05:36So.
00:05:37Yeah.
00:05:37Do we want to talk a minicamp here briefly?
00:05:40No, it's getting a minicamp a little bit.
00:05:41Um, I know you have some Patriots unfiltered takes, uh, that they were
00:05:45talking about, of course, they're there.
00:05:47We're not there.
00:05:48Um, not a ton of video out of there, but I will say every single thing that I read
00:05:53and every single thing that I heard talked about how Drake may is further
00:05:57along than people expect Drake may looks good.
00:05:59He's picking things up, right.
00:06:01There was, uh, something where, um, who's the kid they got from KJ Osborne
00:06:06was talking about how, you know, Drake came up to him and was talking about
00:06:11what he did on a route on a play with Jacoby Brissette.
00:06:16So he's out there studying what Brissette and the receivers are doing.
00:06:20And may went, Hey, you know, I think on this play, like maybe you could
00:06:23have done this instead and Brissette and, you know, hey, uh, the hell Osborne
00:06:27was like, yeah, like, you know, thanks.
00:06:30I appreciate that.
00:06:30And he's like, I had already kind of realized that.
00:06:32And he's like, he's watching film of like stuff.
00:06:34That's not even him.
00:06:36And so I think for me, that's, that's really cool.
00:06:40Uh, and that's something that I want to see from him and
00:06:45seeing him put that time in.
00:06:47I think something with that too.
00:06:48It's not just the knowledge, but the confidence, you know, it's the one
00:06:51thing like these guys are smart.
00:06:53You have to be a certain level of football, smart to get to this level.
00:06:58But to, to know mentally that an error was made on a route that needs to be
00:07:02corrected both because you know, the playbook that well at this point, and
00:07:07because you're paying attention enough to pick off on these things.
00:07:10And then to have the confidence to actually go up to somebody and, you
00:07:14know, make the correction.
00:07:16It's one of the reasons the quarterback is the most important position in sports,
00:07:19because you have to be a vocal leader in a lot of ways.
00:07:22You have to be willing to correct people when they're wrong.
00:07:25You have to be smart enough to do that.
00:07:27Um, and, you know, being able to make sure that you're, you're the engineer,
00:07:31you got to make sure all the trains are running on time.
00:07:33And, uh, I love that from May.
00:07:36Um, and it's, you know, that, that a guy like Osborne is taking that well too.
00:07:40It was like, okay, good.
00:07:41Like these guys are fitting in.
00:07:42They're trying to do this together, which, you know, I don't, wouldn't
00:07:45expect any animosity there, but it is a good thing to talk about that publicly
00:07:49and say, Hey, like he's doing great.
00:07:51And, uh, you know, one of the things I was going to mention from Patriots
00:07:54unfiltered was they've been talking for a while, like, all right, how
00:07:58long do we want to sit May?
00:08:00Do we want them to sit the whole season?
00:08:02Do we want them to sit half the season?
00:08:04Evan Lazar and the show was kind of pushed back on that general thing for a
00:08:07while, but today he was kind of like, like, let's not rule out Drake may as.
00:08:12The week one starter, he had as almost as many reps as Jacobi preset today, 30 to
00:08:1929 looked better on them from everybody that was there, they were still there
00:08:24sharing mistakes still early.
00:08:25We're still learning.
00:08:26There's no pads on lots of time for things to change, but it's a tune.
00:08:30We're still three months away from the season starting.
00:08:33And there's a decent argument to be made that may is already
00:08:36better than for set in camp.
00:08:39Yeah.
00:08:39Well, and that's, you know what?
00:08:41I I'm kind of getting that feeling as well.
00:08:43And look, it's early, like you said, we're talking, you know, we're
00:08:46talking today on June 10th, right?
00:08:48It's not like that.
00:08:50No, one's been hit.
00:08:51There's no pads, no, nothing.
00:08:52Right.
00:08:54But at the same time, you're like, well, he's, he's further
00:08:58along than people expected.
00:08:59We've already said he's further along than people expected.
00:09:02And now we kind of see that come to fruition.
00:09:04And I just feel like I wouldn't necessarily hate it.
00:09:09Now, the question is the biggest question for me is, is the team
00:09:13ready for him to step in and play?
00:09:16And what I mean by that is, is there enough talent around him that he's not
00:09:20going to flounder in his first year, right?
00:09:23I don't want to put him into a situation where he can't be
00:09:25successful unless he's a superhero.
00:09:28And because I don't want him to develop those superhero tendencies.
00:09:30Right.
00:09:31And so, you know, that's one of those things for me that I have concerns about.
00:09:36I did think it was interesting today that Mike Onwenu kind of pushed
00:09:39into right guard a little bit.
00:09:41And then you had Caden Wallace working at right tackle.
00:09:45I thought that was interesting.
00:09:46And so two things that's interesting about that.
00:09:48Number one, I think it's interesting that, you know, maybe you feel comfortable
00:09:53with what you're getting at left tackle from Chuck Zecora for, right.
00:09:56And whoever else is playing left tackle right now, number two, I think it's a
00:10:00little concerning, maybe in the Caden Wallace department that they're already
00:10:04kind of looking at and saying, like, you don't know if I get my left tackle yet.
00:10:07Don't worry at all.
00:10:07It's when it's, it's tough to tell where exactly on that spectrum it lands.
00:10:12Um, honestly, I think that the driver for this is probably neither of those.
00:10:16The driver for this is probably Cole strange being out still because
00:10:20of Coles, Cole strangers out city.
00:10:22So moves to left guard, which I think might be a better spot for him anyway.
00:10:26Um, he's at left guard.
00:10:28And then that means that your right guard, when, on, when it is
00:10:32at tackle is Nick Leverett, who's fine.
00:10:34He's been a serviceable NFL player, but on when he was a really good player.
00:10:39And if you think Caden Wallace is better at right tackle than
00:10:42Leverett is at right guard.
00:10:44Uh, I, I don't hate this move at all.
00:10:46Uh, especially if you're getting a young guy on the field and getting him to play.
00:10:49Like one of the reasons you paid Michael went in was because you think he is versatile.
00:10:53You think he can do a lot for you.
00:10:56And I don't really, I don't care where he ends up on the line.
00:10:58I think he's going to be in a good piece anywhere.
00:11:01And you know, if, if so ends up as your left guard and on what it
00:11:06winds up as your right garden came Caden Wallace can be a starter for you at right.
00:11:10Tackle all the guys can be good in those spots that works for me.
00:11:14Cause that means you're going into next year, needing one spot on the
00:11:17offensive line and that's left tackle.
00:11:19And I think that's what matters.
00:11:21If you go into the next off season and all you need is one spot, no matter
00:11:25how the rest of the pieces fell this year, if all you need is one spot, that's
00:11:30way easier to address than, you know, a situation where, you know, Caden Wallace
00:11:35doesn't look good and a core four doesn't look good.
00:11:39And you know, so it struggles like, um, I, I see the vision here.
00:11:45So I'm excited about it.
00:11:46Yeah.
00:11:47Well, I look, I think your point is well, you know, it was well thought out in the
00:11:51fact that it doesn't really matter where I'm wanting to place, right.
00:11:54He's going to be really good.
00:11:55No matter where he goes, I think he's a very good right tackle.
00:11:58I think he has a chance to be an all pro right guard.
00:12:01And so I can look at it and say, okay, you know, I'm okay with that.
00:12:05As long as you feel comfortable with the guy that can play right tackle
00:12:08and be a good right tackle.
00:12:10Right.
00:12:11And that's the question, right?
00:12:13Do you feel, do you feel better about a good right guard and a very good right
00:12:17tackle, or do you feel good about, or you feel better about an all pro right tackle
00:12:23and all pro right guard and a good right tackle.
00:12:25Right.
00:12:25And I don't know the answer to that question, but, but that's, that's one of
00:12:28those things that like, that's the decision you might have to make, right?
00:12:31That's what you figure that's, that's what August is for right there is figuring
00:12:35out and it's, if Cole strange is back by then too, you know, we still have no
00:12:39idea what his timeline is then, you know, that throws another, another ranch into
00:12:44this, we'll see where they land on the topic of offensive line stuff.
00:12:47But I was going to mention, this is the big thing I thought was interesting
00:12:50that they were talking about on Patriots unfiltered.
00:12:52Uh, you know, the Browns offensive line coach, Bill Callahan now will
00:12:57now Titans off the line coach.
00:12:58Yeah.
00:12:58Right.
00:12:58Right.
00:12:59He, I did not know this.
00:13:01He created his own blocking sled patent in every, it's, it's his own sled.
00:13:07And the Patriots have it now too, because they have Scott Peters as our
00:13:11offensive line coach who comes from that tree.
00:13:13So for those who are unfamiliar with it, there's a blocking sled features
00:13:17like a little bit more of like a defensive line been figure who's like
00:13:21hunched over and like more in the position you will be blocking a
00:13:25defensive lineman in, and because of the position it's in, if you get too
00:13:29high in your stance, that sled will not move no matter what.
00:13:34Um, so there's a great video of, uh, like Titans have it.
00:13:37Now you can go watch JC Latham using it, but you know, we go back to 2022
00:13:43and the elevated Matt Patricia offense with them trying to do outside zone.
00:13:47One of the pieces of skepticism at the time was that outside zone is a
00:13:51very technique heavy thing to run.
00:13:53Right.
00:13:54And you need the right people.
00:13:55You need experts in it.
00:13:57That's one of the reasons it didn't work then.
00:13:59Now you have a piece of equipment like that.
00:14:02As far as I'm aware, only one other team in the league has maybe
00:14:04others do I could be wrong.
00:14:06Uh, yeah, but either way, you're getting the right equipment
00:14:09for this type of thing.
00:14:10Yet offensive line coach who believes in it.
00:14:13There's some of the guys on this line struggled with outside zone when
00:14:15they tried it two years ago, they're going to have a much better chance
00:14:19of learning it this year because they have an offensive line coach and
00:14:21the equipment to teach it better.
00:14:24A hundred percent.
00:14:24And, and look, I mean, you know, I think, and I don't want to go
00:14:28back into the Mack Jones saga, but like, I do think that, you know, as, as
00:14:33much as the offenses issues over the last few years have been because of
00:14:38personnel they've been because of coaching a lot as well, and so, you
00:14:42know, they clearly weren't happy with the coaching they got, obviously
00:14:45Patricia, Matt, a Joe judge thing was a disaster clearly.
00:14:48Okay.
00:14:49Um, but I think even last year, when you look at Adrian Clem and, and
00:14:54you know, I don't think we saw a ton of growth from any of those guys either.
00:14:57And so, and of course he was gone half of the year and it was, then it was Billy Yates.
00:15:01And, and so, you know, that becomes a question of like, well, how well did
00:15:08they really, did they really teach these guys and what was the technique like?
00:15:11And, and were they actually improving from week to weekend?
00:15:15I think the answer to that question might be no, and that's a scary proposition.
00:15:18And so, you know, you wonder if we can coach these guys up and they can actually
00:15:23improve, I think that makes a world of difference that can make a world
00:15:26of difference to the Patriots.
00:15:28And again, it doesn't mean they're going to be all pros, but can they be guys
00:15:32that are good enough players to get you through the season and have these guys
00:15:38grow and be a successful running team and be a successful, you know, passing
00:15:42offense because you have the offensive line in front of you.
00:15:45And I think that that's, that's really what I'm looking for.
00:15:47Most so than anything else.
00:15:48I mean, you know, one of the two things about Caden Wallace and Leighton Robinson
00:15:52is that those, there were two guys that, you know, from the scouting department,
00:15:57at least when you looked at it and everything in their scouting reports said
00:16:01that these are guys that can probably start pretty, pretty much right away.
00:16:04They're just limited as far as like upward mobility.
00:16:08Well, if that, if you feel like Caden Wallace can walk in and start day one
00:16:11at right tackle, great.
00:16:13I'm okay with that.
00:16:15Then can you make him a little bit better as well to get him into a starting
00:16:19role where he's a solid starter?
00:16:22You feel good with that one who at right guard next to him.
00:16:24And then whomever it is, a left guard is the, is the other guy.
00:16:27And I'm okay with that.
00:16:28And so, but that really comes down to like, can we maximize
00:16:32the abilities of these guys?
00:16:33We haven't been able to do that in quite a while.
00:16:36And so can we maximize the abilities of these guys and make it so that we at
00:16:41least have a competitive offensive line?
00:16:43It's who's the new pitching coach for the Red Sox this year?
00:16:48Andrew Bailey.
00:16:49Yes.
00:16:49Andrew Bailey, who has turned that unit around.
00:16:53That's kind of what you're hoping for here from Scott Peters.
00:16:57You know, it's not, you can't magically turn players who don't
00:17:00have talents into all pros.
00:17:02But if you can turn guys who are C's and D's into B's, just because you're
00:17:08maximizing what they can do on the field, that's going to go so far for you.
00:17:13And, you know, going back to what we talked about, about providing enough
00:17:18of a supporting cast for Drake May this season, you know, look at, nobody
00:17:22thought, I don't know, we thought people were skeptical of CJ Stroud last year
00:17:25with, with the Texans or, you know, Trevor Lawrence in an awful situation
00:17:30with the Jaguars, that the offense Josh Allen was dropped into was not very good.
00:17:37Um, you know, there are, there are players who get dropped into bad teams and end
00:17:42up making it look better than it is.
00:17:44They elevate things and, you know, the Patriots can be that I think to a degree,
00:17:48you know, I don't, Trevor Lawrence is obviously a lot of takes around him,
00:17:53but he's not a bust.
00:17:54It's just, is he an average quarterback?
00:17:56Is he a good quarterback?
00:17:57Is he a great quarterback?
00:17:58We're still not sure exactly where in that range he falls.
00:18:01Right.
00:18:02He's there after having, you know, the worst situation in the NFL as a rookie.
00:18:10He was forced to play behind a team that was checked out in September
00:18:14because everybody hated the head coach and there was no development whatsoever.
00:18:17Like that's, that's what he was in.
00:18:20It's not going to be that bad in New England.
00:18:21So I worry about the supporting cast to a degree, but if the supporting
00:18:25cast is bad enough that you're afraid to put me out there, it's also bad
00:18:28enough to get Jacoby percent hurt or may, isn't going to be out there anyway.
00:18:32So I think unless, unless he is still making some mistakes or you're, you're
00:18:38really worried about some, some stuff like specific things on the inside, I
00:18:42think you just let the best guy win the job and start whenever they're ready.
00:18:46Yeah.
00:18:46That's a good point.
00:18:47It's a really good point.
00:18:48And so, you know, we'll see, we'll see kind of how it plays out.
00:18:51And, and I'm interested to see what it's going to look like when the pads get on.
00:18:55Right.
00:18:56And that's really, that's really what we're going to, when we're going to know.
00:18:58And I think what you've seen from Drake may so far, and again, we
00:19:02haven't seen a ton of video, right?
00:19:05But what we've heard from Drake may is that he's made some really good passes
00:19:10is that he's been able to throw on the run very well is that he's made good
00:19:14read, good, solid reads in the pocket.
00:19:16I think seven on seven, they said he was, you know, had three touchdown passes
00:19:19and didn't throw in a complete pass.
00:19:21And 11 and 11, he led like, I think two or three incompletions and, and
00:19:24threw a few more touchdown passes as well.
00:19:26And so you start looking at it saying like, he's stacking up
00:19:29good plays and good practices.
00:19:32Those are the types of things that we're looking for.
00:19:34And again, does that mean he's going to be ready to pass your
00:19:36corporate set and they feel like he's gonna be ready to start day one?
00:19:39I don't know, but I think from, from outside perspective, you had all these
00:19:45holes that were punched in, you know, Drake may, and, and the type of player
00:19:49he was before the draft, and I think that we can now look at some of that stuff
00:19:53and say, yeah, that might've been a little overblown now, again, pads aren't
00:19:57on real bullets on flying yet, so we don't know, but just from what we've
00:20:01heard, it sounds like some of that stuff may have been a little bit overblown.
00:20:06And you just wonder, you know, was he really the QB to all along
00:20:10that we thought he might be?
00:20:11Uh, and you know, did, did Washington then missed out on, you know, on their guy?
00:20:17Yeah.
00:20:17Which I haven't, I actually haven't heard a peep by Jaden Daniels and
00:20:20how he looks for the commanders.
00:20:21Um, I don't know what, what their practice situation is.
00:20:24Um, I've heard very little about Caleb Williams as well, but you know, talking
00:20:28about, there's a thread today where they were talking about may kind of stepping
00:20:32up into the pocket and avoiding pressure.
00:20:34Then doing a sidearm throw to Jalen Polk for a touchdown.
00:20:37I think that's what it was.
00:20:38And it's like, all right, that's what it was.
00:20:40They're talking about like.
00:20:42Gingerbill peppers, like reacting on the sideline.
00:20:46And I was, I think, I think it was Brett Coleman's episode of the bootleg.
00:20:50He and EJ Snyder, the bootleg football podcast today, they had their
00:20:53Patriots breakdown on it.
00:20:54I think that's what it was.
00:20:55Yeah.
00:20:56They were talking about the QB thing.
00:20:58And they mentioned that, you know, Gerard may was a player's coach.
00:21:01Like he was a player.
00:21:02He knows what it's like in the locker room.
00:21:04Yeah.
00:21:05Any player in the locker room, the players all know who the better
00:21:07quarterback is and he's sensitive to that.
00:21:10And he's in tune with that.
00:21:11If may is doing that kind of stuff, all camp and the, and you know, you
00:21:15got defensive players mimicking him and team leaders hyping him up like that.
00:21:19I think it's very hard to keep him off the field.
00:21:22Like you could, you could talk all you want about a plan, but if he goes and
00:21:25shows that he's the best quarterback in camp, which obviously is still yet to be
00:21:29seen for one day into many camp pads, aren't on, this could be a one day
00:21:32thing and he never does it again.
00:21:34But if that's what happened, that he looks like this and builds
00:21:36off of it through camp.
00:21:38You have to play him.
00:21:39You can't put for set out there may will be the better player.
00:21:43And, um, there's no reason not to.
00:21:47Well, and that's what it comes down to, right?
00:21:49If, if Drake may is the best player at the position you have to play, you got it.
00:21:54And that's, that's really what it comes down to because then you, what happens
00:21:57is you lose the rest of the team, right?
00:22:02If you don't play him, you lose the rest of the team because you're
00:22:06looking, they're looking at it saying, well, wait a second, you're not playing
00:22:10the guy that gives us the best chance to win, what are we doing here?
00:22:12You know?
00:22:13And that's, and then that can be frustrating for them because they feel
00:22:16checked out because they're like, well, you just punting on the season because
00:22:19you're worried about his development or something like if he's the best player,
00:22:21he's got to play.
00:22:22And if the guys on the field can see that they're not dumb, they know.
00:22:27Right.
00:22:27And so it's like, Hey, this guy's better.
00:22:29He's got to play.
00:22:30And if that's the case, day one, that's the case.
00:22:32Day one.
00:22:32I think Jacoby said to his credit, I'm kind of all knew this going anyways,
00:22:37to his credit, every time he's talked about him, every time he's discussed
00:22:41them, it's always, Hey, you know, the kids look great and he's ahead of schedule
00:22:47and he's putting in the time and he's putting in the effort and he's, he's
00:22:51been talking glowingly about him.
00:22:52And again, you know, I mean, whatever, I know what's a QB competition.
00:22:55I'm sure Jacoby percent would prefer to start than be his backup.
00:22:57Right.
00:22:58But like at the end of the day, or sets a professional and they feel like he's
00:23:03going to be the guy to kind of mentor him and show him that.
00:23:06And I think we're setting new that when he came here now, maybe
00:23:09this year about the plan.
00:23:11Yeah.
00:23:12And so maybe he thought he'd start this year, but still, if he gets beat out, he
00:23:15gets beat out, you know, and then that's the way it goes.
00:23:18And you know, Hey, if I got to be a backup, the rest of my career, I'll be a
00:23:20backer of my career.
00:23:21It is what it is.
00:23:21You know?
00:23:22So, and like we, we talked in 2021 about how, all right, we're going to sit
00:23:27Mack Jones for a year, possibly or seven for part of the season and let him
00:23:31knit and play, and then Mack Jones turned it on and outplayed him in camp and
00:23:35earned the job.
00:23:36And that wasn't, that wasn't the reason why the Mac Jones experiment didn't
00:23:40work out.
00:23:41Um, it wasn't that he wasn't, it's not that he couldn't play well.
00:23:44It's that he had a baseline level that was a good and couldn't elevate beyond
00:23:50that.
00:23:51And then obviously lots of other mitigating, of course.
00:23:53Yeah.
00:23:54Certain chances there.
00:23:55Uh, one, I know we're going to do an ad break and get into the main show.
00:23:58The other thing I tend to like Jalen Polk had a better day today, which is good.
00:24:02I am a little bit concerned about Jalen Baker being banged up and not practicing.
00:24:06Um, yeah, I, I was looking through this recently, earlier today, just to find the
00:24:14last Patriots, like rookie wide receiver who was healthy for a full season.
00:24:19You got to go back.
00:24:20You got to go back to the nineties.
00:24:22Not even Dion branch, not even David Gibbons.
00:24:25Both of those guys missed games.
00:24:26They're rookie year.
00:24:27Lee.
00:24:28Yeah.
00:24:29It's in some of them were like, there's a couple of guys in there that play like
00:24:3215 games, but like, yeah, I think Bethel Johnson was the guy who had injury issues
00:24:36when he was in college.
00:24:38Uh, Chad Jackson, you know, was hurt right away.
00:24:40We all know the most recent guys they've had.
00:24:43And like, it's, uh, yeah.
00:24:46I mean, even some of the successes that they've had receiver were guys like you
00:24:49gotta, you gotta get like Julian Edelman.
00:24:51Who's like, obviously he's not playing in every game.
00:24:53Like he, he was banged up as a rookie and he was a backup.
00:24:56Like he took four years to develop right to what he became.
00:25:00Um, yeah.
00:25:02Dion branch, David Gibbons were both banged up, but your health is a big
00:25:04factor in development and not ending up on IR is huge.
00:25:09So I don't think Jayvon Baker's in that territory, but this is the learning period.
00:25:14This is when you got guys on the field, like you don't want to miss.
00:25:18I will say though, it was nice after practice.
00:25:21They did it, they did say once again, that Drake may and Jalen Polk and Jayvon
00:25:28Baker were out running routes and throwing the ball around after, after
00:25:32practice, after everyone had left.
00:25:33And so it tells you that whatever he's dealing with, while, you know, might be
00:25:38something, it's not anything serious enough that he can't, you know, run routes
00:25:42with Drake May and stuff like that, which is good now, maybe he's not a hundred
00:25:45percent ready, maybe it's a soft tissue type thing, something like that is kind
00:25:49of what I expect it to be some sort of hamstring or something along those lines.
00:25:54But if he's out there running and even I'm sure they're not running full speed,
00:25:59but either way, if he's out there running with May and Polk after practice, that's
00:26:03a good sign to me that he'll be back at some point, he may not be back on Wednesday.
00:26:07Of course, Tuesday, they're doing some volunteer work.
00:26:09So they're not actually practicing on Tuesday, but, um, you know, but maybe
00:26:15he won't be back on the record for the Wednesday, but it seems like he should
00:26:17be ready to go in short order, which would be a good thing, of course, you know?
00:26:21Yeah.
00:26:22So, all right.
00:26:24Why don't we, uh, why don't we go to an ad break?
00:26:26We want to do your ad first and then we'll, uh, and we'll get into this Brady
00:26:29draft on the other side of this.
00:26:32We are just for those of you that missed or that haven't read, can't read the thing
00:26:36down below or didn't see what was going on beforehand, uh, we are drafting.
00:26:41It is a 10 round draft of the greatest Tom Brady throws.
00:26:45That means we'll be talking about 20 of Tom Brady's greatest throws, only
00:26:49Patriots throws only Patriots throws.
00:26:51Not, yeah.
00:26:52Um, and this is our favorite too.
00:26:55And we're going to get, and we have a couple of caveats in there,
00:26:57which we'll get into after this.
00:26:59Um, but yeah.
00:27:00All right.
00:27:01The, the NBA finals are on.
00:27:03And I personally, I'd love to go to Dallas to see the Celtics, you know,

00:28:07Boston there, uh, so planes a little bit heavier on the way back.
00:28:10It'd be pretty nice.
00:28:10Wouldn't it?
00:28:11It'd be pretty nice.
00:28:11Wouldn't it?
00:28:12I personally think that they're going to win Wednesday night and then they're
00:28:16going to lose Friday night.
00:28:20And I think it's one of those, um, NBA, I don't want to say NBA rigged, but I
00:28:27feel like it's going to be one of those games where like the M it's just a
00:28:29little fishy, you know what I mean?
00:28:33But it's all, I don't know.
00:28:34I feel good about the Celtics chance.
00:28:36I will say one of my is a Mavs fan.
00:28:38And I think Friday night we're going to the bar to watch that game together.
00:28:41Pretty excited.
00:28:42Open for a Celtics win there.
00:28:44Yep.
00:28:44Yep.
00:28:45So, Oh, Ian, Ian 16, here's chiefs kingdom, bro.
00:28:49Ian, stick around my friend because we're going to be ranking Tom
00:28:52Brady's greatest throws of all time.
00:28:54And there's going to be some that you will remember and you
00:28:58may not like them very much, but you will remember them and they
00:29:01will be very memorable for you.
00:29:02So stick around Ian.
00:29:04Thanks for coming through.
00:29:05Uh, we appreciate you, buddy.
00:29:06And, uh, you know, we'll have a few, a few chiefs, uh, plays that you may,
00:29:10you know, might be a little memorable for you.
00:29:12Yeah.
00:29:13So we have our, I think we want to snake draft this.
00:29:16Yes, we do.
00:29:17I think you're up first.
00:29:18Cause I went first in our last one.
00:29:20All right.
00:29:20Make you take that burden here.
00:29:22Son of a, okay.
00:29:24Um, and a couple, a couple rules on our thing here while you think, um, we
00:29:30each have to draft at least one throw from a super bowl, I don't
00:29:33think that's going to be hard.
00:29:35We have to draft at least one throw from a championship game.
00:29:39If it's a championship game, we have to draft at least one throw from the
00:29:42divisional round and or wild card round.
00:29:45And we have to have one throw that's from a Patriots loss.
00:29:49One of those, one of those throws that stood out to us in the
00:29:51game, they did not end up winning.
00:29:54All right.
00:29:54So, man, this sucks.
00:29:57This really sucks.
00:29:59Your favorite Tom Brady throw of all time.
00:30:02No, here's the thing.
00:30:03And this is the thing, right?
00:30:04The caveat is what makes it difficult because the caveat is that you have to
00:30:09have a divisional slash wildcard throw on there, and I only have one
00:30:20divisional slash wildcard throw on my list.
00:30:23And so I had two immediately.
00:30:26So I'm very curious if you take it, I'm out, right.
00:30:30And I do think, I do think that honestly, this could be, what's funny about it is
00:30:35it's actually the first throw on my list.
00:30:37When I think about like the greatest Tom Brady throws ever.
00:30:41Oh, I had three for my divisional writings.
00:30:43I totally, I think I know what throw you're talking about and high up on mine.
00:30:47And I totally forgot that was in the divisional round.
00:30:49All right.
00:30:50Well, uh, my throw comes from the 2014 divisional round game
00:30:58against the Baltimore Ravens.
00:31:00Uh, to Jojo, AKA Brandon LaFelle, uh, just an absolutely outrageous, just
00:31:07an outrageous throw by Brady.
00:31:09It's a play that gets overlooked because of the Edelman throw to Amendola, but
00:31:14that throw to take the lead and win, of course ends up winning the game.
00:31:19That throw is, is one of his best throws just because the placement of that ball
00:31:23between two guys into the end zone, just absolutely flawless execution
00:31:30by Brady on an absolute rope.
00:31:32Um, and so that's the pickup.
00:31:34That's what I'm going with first round.
00:31:36Brandon LaFelle.
00:31:38I like it.
00:31:39I'm going to, so I got, I got picks two and three here and I think I'm going to
00:31:44go to, uh, two defining moments for Tom Brady for this one.
00:31:51Uh, I think my first pick here and I know, cause I think we, I think I pitched
00:31:56to this as favorite Tom Brady throws and because of when this happened in my
00:32:00childhood, I think it's going to be hard to unseat this one as a personal favorite
00:32:04of mine, Tom Brady's 50th touchdown pass to Randy Moss against the Giants.
00:32:11That's, that's going to be my, my second overall pick here.
00:32:17Um, and that I'm going to, I'm going to follow that up.
00:32:20If I just go in early Brady, um, how about Brady to Troy Brown, Superbowl
00:32:2836, set up the game winning field goal.
00:32:31Okay.
00:32:32All right.
00:32:33All right.
00:32:33I like that.
00:32:3432.
00:32:35I didn't have that one on my list, but that's a really good one.
00:32:38Interesting.
00:32:39Yeah.
00:32:41I thought you were going to take one that, that I, I might take a neck.
00:32:45I think I know which one you're thinking.
00:32:48Um, so my second round pick my second round pick.
00:32:52I'm very excited about.
00:32:53I'm excited that still here, I think arguably it's maybe the most clutch
00:32:59throw that Brady's ever made in his career, which is saying a lot.
00:33:04Okay.
00:33:06Um, but here's what I'll say.
00:33:09Third and 10 at the nine yard line down, eight points in the Superbowl game on
00:33:17the line, throwing incomplete pass games over, you got to punt it and
00:33:23you almost definitely lose pressure.
00:33:26Instant pressure off the, off the edge, a guy in your face with a hand in your
00:33:31face and on your arm, and he makes an absolutely perfect throw on a
00:33:37absolutely perfect throw on an out road to Chris Hogan to pick up a first down
00:33:42on that drive, keeps the drive going.
00:33:44Of course, the end of winning on that drive.
00:33:46That's the Edelman.
00:33:47The Edelman catch is, is in that drive.
00:33:49And of course they end up scoring touchdown and forcing overtime.
00:33:51But that throw to me, the stakes number one, but the fact, the fact that you've
00:34:00got the hand in your face and you're making that throw anyway, it just,
00:34:04Oh, just an incredible play.
00:34:06The Falcons almost got a safety, like right before that too.
00:34:09Yep.
00:34:09Yeah.
00:34:09Yeah.
00:34:09The play before that was, that was the, that was, I don't want to say the only
00:34:14point where I was nervous because obviously a lot of the second half you're
00:34:17nervous, but I think watching that entire game in some ways, the comeback is so
00:34:24incredible that you almost aren't nervous until it's within reach, right?
00:34:29Like if, if it's, if you're down 28 to three and you end up losing, you know,
00:34:3435 to 17, then like, all right.
00:34:38Like, I guess that happens like that.
00:34:40Yeah.
00:34:41But if it's once it gets to 28 to 20 and you have the ball and it's Tom Brady,
00:34:47it's, if you can't not get it at that point, you have to get it at that point.
00:34:52And then to almost have the safety and to still, to convert that third
00:34:55down and get that drive huge.
00:34:57I actually forgot to write that one on my list, but that's a great throw.
00:35:00Yeah.
00:35:01Yeah.
00:35:01That's, uh, that one's, that one's one of my favorite throws
00:35:05ever because it's just, yeah.
00:35:06So, all right.
00:35:08Um, I don't know.
00:35:11Let me set the scene for you again.
00:35:13Okay.
00:35:14The Patriots in the heat in a place that they never win down to Miami back and
00:35:24fourth and back and fourth game, Miami misses a, like two field goals and
00:35:28overtime and Tom Brady just winds up and fires an 86 or 87 yard touchdown
00:35:39pass to Troy Brown in 2003 to win down in Miami belt Belichick takes off the
00:35:46headset, chucks the headset up in the air.
00:35:48Like crowds got the, the players are going nuts.
00:35:51They're running around the field.
00:35:52Like they just won the Superbowl.
00:35:54Um, that play is so awesome.
00:35:57And like the throw to, and Troy Brown, like it was great.
00:36:00So that, that's, uh, that's my, my third round pick them.
00:36:05I love that.
00:36:06That's a, that is a great play.
00:36:08I will always remember the call on that too.
00:36:11The touchdown, touchdown, touchdown.
00:36:14Fantastic.
00:36:15Uh, that is that in the Denver game that year to my all time favorite Patriots
00:36:21no matter what, just ridiculous things going on.
00:36:23Yeah.
00:36:23Taking the safety and it is wild.
00:36:25Yeah.
00:36:25Yeah.
00:36:25Yeah.
00:36:26And the Miami game, you know, he shot a lost.
00:36:28I came twice to miss field goals from Miami and drama with the coin
00:36:33toss receiver being out of bounds on the catch that set off the field goal
00:36:37at overtime and the reps and like, yeah.
00:36:40So insane.
00:36:41Yeah.
00:36:42Um, all right.
00:36:43So I'm looking through this here.
00:36:45I'm going to, I'm going to grab one more from a Superbowl.
00:36:48Okay.
00:36:49Um, cause I, I, I love this throw and we're going to, you know, the most
00:36:56recent Patriots Superbowl win here.
00:37:00Brady to Rob Gronkowski down the seam, Haas wide juke to set up the one yard
00:37:05game, winning touchdown run against the Rams and Superbowl 53, it was just
00:37:10perfect, like it would classic Brady, you know, games on the line, five
00:37:14place scoring drive, that's your chunk play.
00:37:17He reads the defense perfectly, puts it where only Gronk can get it.
00:37:20Um, and yeah, I got the, got the play from the, the game winning or the play
00:37:26that set up the game winning play in the first Superbowl, I'll take the one
00:37:29that sets up the game winning play in the last Superbowl, that was a great one.
00:37:34Um, I think my other one here, I want one from a conference championship game.
00:37:39I'm going to, I'm going to jump on this right now because
00:37:41it's also a favorite of mine.
00:37:44Patriots up three, nothing.
00:37:47Early in the AFC championship.
00:37:51And they get the ball for their, for their second possession and
00:37:55immediately Tom Brady goes deep against that Steelers defense with
00:38:00a hundred and what, two degree fever or whatever he had drops over the top
00:38:05of that Vaughn's defense ends up Dion branch for a touchdown.
00:38:09You've got 10, nothing on the road with your second AFC championship
00:38:13game in Pittsburgh in three years.
00:38:15Four years.
00:38:16And, um, you do that to set the tone early in that game.
00:38:21Just absolute silencer.
00:38:24Perfect play call.
00:38:24Perfect throw.
00:38:2686 year, a touchdown against that defense just to go up 10 off.
00:38:30I mean, just, Oh, Oh, so good.
00:38:33So good.
00:38:34Um, Oh boy.
00:38:37Oh boy.
00:38:37There's too many good ones of the problem.
00:38:39There's so many good ones.
00:38:40And I'm like, I couldn't rank them after a certain point.
00:38:44Oh God.
00:38:45Okay.
00:38:46Um, all right.
00:38:51You took an AFC championship game.
00:38:52I'm going to take an AFC championship game as well.
00:38:55Um, also I think this covers me, uh, twofold here.
00:38:59Cause it's also in a loss.
00:39:01Ooh.
00:39:02Oh, is this yeah.
00:39:04Huh?
00:39:05Fourth and 10 in Denver, 2015 Brady goes back to pass.
00:39:12He's had no time all game and he just lost one just beautifully
00:39:18over Rob Gronkowski shoulder.
00:39:20Uh, Gronk makes an incredible catch on it.
00:39:23Patriots pick up a first down.
00:39:24And then of course, a few plays later on fourth and 10, again, from the, from
00:39:29like the 10 yard line, Brady avoids pressure, throws a pass to Gronk who
00:39:33like jumps in front of three defenders to make the catch, of course, they
00:39:37ended up not being able to get the two-point conversion to lose the game.
00:39:40What an absolute, just an incredible throw by Brady to Gronk on that play.
00:39:45And again, in a losing effort, um, but just, just an absolutely incredible
00:39:49play, um, by both Brady and Gronk in that situation.
00:39:54Yeah.
00:39:54Talk about trusting the guy to make a play at the right time.
00:39:58That was the Broncos were a much, much better team in that game.
00:40:04And Brady and Gronk basically willed them into be one play away from sending
00:40:09that to overtime and arguably, you know, should I should have gone to overtime
00:40:13anyway, so, uh, yeah, heck of a heck of a play there.
00:40:18All right.
00:40:18And we're at the halfway point.
00:40:19This is my fifth, my fifth pick, fifth round.
00:40:23And my pick in the fifth round is going to be in another Superbowl.
00:40:27This one's Superbowl 49.
00:40:30Okay.
00:40:31And again, the Patriots down 10, backed up third and 18, taking a sack on first
00:40:42down, can't get anything going against Seattle's defense, who at the time was
00:40:47about to be the greatest defense of all time, beating Tom Brady and Peyton Manning
00:40:51and back-to-back years, winning back-to-back Superbowls and Brady
00:40:54avoids the pressure, steps up and throws an absolute missile over the
00:40:59middle to Julian Edelman who gets just annihilated by Cam Chancellor.
00:41:05Hold on to the ball.
00:41:06Of course it gets up and tries to run, but he ends up, his knee ends up being
00:41:08down, but picks up the first down there.
00:41:11And the Patriots of course, go on to win the game that throw right.
00:41:15And again, another one where if you punt in that situation down 10, I don't know
00:41:21if that's going to end the game, but like, it's pretty damn close to end of the game.
00:41:24And so that play in that situation from both Brady and Edelman, just incredible,
00:41:32incredible play.
00:41:34Yeah, that was outstanding.
00:41:36Cause that was like the way that game was going, I just, yeah, I will remember
00:41:44that play for the rest of my life.
00:41:46Like that's just such an iconic play, especially when you consider the context
00:41:49of them not being able to win a Superbowl for 10 years and spite going.
00:41:55Yeah.
00:41:55And it felt like the points in the second half felt like that game
00:41:59might get out of control on them.
00:42:01And especially when you're backed up like that in that position in the fourth
00:42:05quarter, to turn that situation around and keep the drive going was, was huge.
00:42:12And that's, that's the play that started the comeback.
00:42:15Like that's, that's where it went.
00:42:17And the Patriots were unstoppable from that point on.
00:42:22All right, Matt, over to you for the fifth and sixth round picks.
00:42:27My God, dude, I don't know what I'm going to do the rest of this boy.
00:42:34Yeah.
00:42:35Um, all right.
00:42:36So this is, what is this?
00:42:3710 and 11 here at the, at the turn.
00:42:40Yes.
00:42:41Okay.
00:42:42Then yeah, I've, I've made a, I've made a habit out of this, so I'm just going to
00:42:46keep on my pattern here.
00:42:48Let's go with another throw to set up a Superbowl game winner.
00:42:53Okay.
00:42:54Rated a branch Superbowl 38.
00:42:56This is the one that probably gets the least attention out of all of them.
00:43:01And I don't know why, because it's just so perfectly done.
00:43:04Um, so Carolina team that year that loves cover too.
00:43:08They played a ton of cover too.
00:43:10That was their whole thing.
00:43:12You got one play yourself in a field goal range to try to win a Superbowl.
00:43:16What do you go to go to the smash concept?
00:43:19You played Madden, you know, it you're, you're outside receiver run.
00:43:22Sometimes a hitch or in or a slant or something shallow to occupy
00:43:27the defender coverage on him.
00:43:29And your guy in the slot runs that corner route and he's
00:43:32running away from the safety.
00:43:33And I think Carolina knew what was coming and that safety is making a
00:43:38beeline for Dion ranch on the corner.
00:43:39And it doesn't matter.
00:43:40It's Brady puts it on them.
00:43:42Branch the catch, even though he's getting smoked by the safety back there
00:43:48and you're in range for an inventory and you got two, two rings in three years.
00:43:53Just come on.
00:43:54It's a real good one.
00:43:55And that was as a kid too.
00:43:57That was one I always loved growing up because the simplicity of it, like,
00:44:01you know, with the, with the Brady to Gronk one in Superbowl 53, it was,
00:44:06you still need one more play to get into the end zone with the David, with
00:44:09the Troy Brown one in the Superbowl, you still need to throw the germane
00:44:13Wiggins, date yourself really comfortably.
00:44:15It's super in field goal range to win the Superbowl, this one, one
00:44:18play you're in range, kick it.
00:44:20Let's go home.
00:44:21Well, he had a kick off after that, but
00:44:24well, yeah, but I mean, you know, it was essentially, they only had to
00:44:27kick off because they changed the rule that the, the extra, the field
00:44:32goal couldn't take more than what?
00:44:33Four seconds.
00:44:33I think it was because the, the Rams are upset that, that the clock
00:44:37ran out with seven seconds left.
00:44:39I will say that rightfully so Rams.
00:44:42Yeah.
00:44:42The Rams aren't wrong for that.
00:44:43That is, I watched it too.
00:44:44While I'm like the kick ball goes through the goalposts, like three
00:44:48seconds on the clock and it just keeps running.
00:44:50Yeah.
00:44:51Yeah.
00:44:51Yeah.
00:44:52All right.
00:44:54Pick a pick 11 here.
00:44:55There's, there are some throws I could take that.
00:44:58I really, really like, you know, throws that are exceptional and
00:45:03great, great plays and all kinds of stuff, but I think I'm just going
00:45:07to go for one that I have personally always liked because I think it's
00:45:10cool and I think the game itself was crazy and hilarious where to get
00:45:15a Jabbar Gaffney shout out on this podcast right now, so we're going
00:45:20Tom braided to Jabbar Gaffney, 2007 Monday night football in Baltimore.
00:45:27Game winning touchdown, ridiculous set of circumstances on that drive.
00:45:31It's the, I believe that was the Rex Ryan or Rob Ryan defense with Baltimore.
00:45:36And they kept stopping the Patriots and the Patriots somehow kept converting.
00:45:41Anyway, they had a, was it?
00:45:44They had a fourth penalty in the end zone.
00:45:46Bart Scott then took the flag and threw it into the stands.
00:45:50So before that, you've got fourth and one and the Patriots run the ball and
00:45:55get stuffed except the Baltimore beef Baltimore for the play Patriots go back
00:46:01out there and fourth and one run, I believe a QB sneak and, or another run
00:46:06play and they don't get it, but they had, there was a false start on the play.
00:46:10So they go instead of the game being over, they just go five yards and try again.
00:46:15And then Brady runs for it on that fourth down flag in the end zone.
00:46:20Uh, to, to convert another fourth down on that drive.
00:46:24Then Brady in the corner of the end zone to Jabbar Gaffney cash as he goes out of
00:46:28bounds to keep your perfect season alive.
00:46:32Um, just, just an exceptional game.
00:46:34And at that point it felt like if the team won that one, there's no way they could lose.
00:46:38Yeah.
00:46:39Unfortunately that wasn't quite the case, but at least in the regular season,
00:46:42they couldn't lose.
00:46:42You're right about that.
00:46:43So, all right, let's say let's, we're about the halfway point.
00:46:45We're going to take a break.
00:46:46We'll do an ad read.
00:46:47Uh, and then we're going to finish off here again.
00:46:50We are five rounds in, in the first pick, um, and the first pick of, of the, uh, of
00:46:56the sixth round coming up.
00:46:58Okay.
00:46:59So, uh, here we go.

00:47:59I'm going less than 20 points because screw Kyrie Irving.
00:48:03And then, um, and I'm going with Jalen Brown for over 25 points and Chris
00:48:10Stapps, poor Zingas with over 20 points.

00:48:33Pick more, pick less.
00:48:35It's that easy.
00:48:38All right.
00:48:39So let's get back into this.
00:48:41Uh, we are at the sixth round.
00:48:43You've taken so many, so many good ones.
00:48:47Uh, but Matt, I have a question for you, Matt.
00:48:49Yeah.
00:48:50Where's the beef, Matt?
00:48:52Here it is.
00:48:53Where's the beef?
00:48:55Unicorns show ponies, uh, 2013 Ken Brown Tompkins in the back of the end
00:49:02zone against the new Orleans saints.
00:49:05Uh, just an incredible, an incredible throw.
00:49:09And of course you've seen it from every angle now, but the angle from the
00:49:13end zone behind Tompkins, where he throws it and you just, you just
00:49:19you just see it a quarter of an inch over the defender's hands.
00:49:23And what's crazy about that game.
00:49:25And what gets lost in the shuffle of that game is how much of a disaster
00:49:30they were trying to come back and they failed like four times in a row.
00:49:34They just couldn't get it done.
00:49:35Brady's run a pick.
00:49:37They had a turnover and downs.
00:49:38It was a complete disaster.
00:49:40And the saints get kept giving the ball back.
00:49:42And there was a fourth down throw on that drive.
00:49:46Do you remember who the fourth down throw was to Matt?
00:49:48Of course.
00:49:49I remember who it was to Patriots legend, Austin Colley, Austin
00:49:53Colley's the pages, like two weeks.
00:49:55Incredible.
00:49:55Absolutely incredible.
00:49:57Um, and so then of course I knew you'd know it.
00:49:59That's why I asked you Matt.
00:50:00Cause I was like, no, of course Matt knows this.
00:50:02Uh, and so, and then of course he had Tompkins in the end zone.
00:50:06Scott's OECO is absolutely insane.
00:50:08Everyone goes nuts.
00:50:09I actually, I missed that game as people that listen to the show.
00:50:13No, um, I have not been to a new Orleans saints game.
00:50:18In forever, I couldn't even tell you what the last time I went to new Orleans
00:50:22Yates game, um, probably whenever they were there before then, which was what?
00:50:26Eight years old, I guess probably Oh five.
00:50:29That sounds about right.
00:50:30Uh, but I was at a wedding.
00:50:31It was at my friend's wedding.
00:50:32Got married that day.
00:50:34Um, and my buddy's father had pulled his car around the back of, of the
00:50:40functional and we were standing around his running car, listening to the game
00:50:45and the radios we're doing.
00:50:47And so of course I heard Zolak make the call live.
00:50:50It was so cool.
00:50:51And so I went absolutely ballistic.
00:50:53We all will go nuts.
00:50:54It was so cool.
00:50:55And then of course that night.
00:50:57The Patriots come back and Ortiz hits that crazy, uh, grand slam, you know,
00:51:02with Torrey hunter flipping over and, and, uh, his legs up in the air and stuff.
00:51:05And so, uh, a heck of a day in Boston sports, but Canberra Tompkins is
00:51:09my pick there in the sixth round.
00:51:11Great, great, great game.
00:51:13Um, yeah, they, they, I believe tried for one comeback drive.
00:51:18Couldn't, couldn't do it.
00:51:19Punted tried for another one.
00:51:21Went forward and forth down.
00:51:23Couldn't get it.
00:51:24And I think that's in the same, to kick the field goal.
00:51:29And Brady definitely threw a pick in the fourth quarter.
00:51:31I know.
00:51:31Oh yeah.
00:51:32That's what it was.
00:51:32No, they went forward and forth down.
00:51:33Didn't get it.
00:51:34Sansky, the field goal to go up, then Brady threw a pick and
00:51:37they still got the ball back.
00:51:38That's what I had no timeouts at that point.
00:51:40Right.
00:51:40Right.
00:51:41Yeah.
00:51:41I also, I point out, if not for a freak freak rainstorm in
00:51:47Cincinnati, the week before that, that throw is the one where Tom Brady
00:51:52would have passed drew breeze on the list for most consecutive
00:51:56games with a touchdown pass.
00:51:58But the Patriots didn't score a touchdown the week before in
00:52:00Cincinnati, because they got the ball back late to try to tie it.
00:52:03They were marching and then the heavens just opened up.
00:52:07Um, so they couldn't score and Brady's streak ended one, one
00:52:13game short of his head, I believe.
00:52:16Yeah.
00:52:16Uh, iconic throw.
00:52:18Iconic.
00:52:19Yup.
00:52:19Yup.
00:52:20Um, all right, man.
00:52:22So many good ones.
00:52:23This is too many.
00:52:25Just too many good ones.
00:52:26Okay.
00:52:26Uh, Christ.
00:52:31All right.
00:52:31Well, there's three that I really like.
00:52:32Picking your children.
00:52:33That's really, it's brutal.
00:52:35Um, I'm going to go with a regular season game, another regular season game.
00:52:39Uh, I'm going to go with, and it's so funny cause James is on here
00:52:43listing things and this is on this one's on here as well.
00:52:46Yeah.
00:52:46Um, Brandon cooks.
00:52:50Yeah.
00:52:50This is a good time to put these two together.
00:52:52Yeah.
00:52:532017 opening game.
00:52:57The Patriots are losing the Texans who everyone thought the Texans were going
00:53:00to stink and the Patriots came back.
00:53:03And Brady just under pressure getting hit just makes an absolutely perfect
00:53:09throw to the front pile onto the end zone.
00:53:12Brandon cooks gets somehow gets both feet down, taps his feet with like 30 seconds
00:53:17left to go in the game, the Patriots win just an absolutely incredible throw.
00:53:22Just an incredible throw.
00:53:24Um, and so that, uh, that's my seventh round pick there.
00:53:28That's a great night.
00:53:29I love this stretch of the draft here.
00:53:31Picks 11, 12 and 13, 11 Brady to Gaffney game winner, 12 pumpkins game winner,
00:53:3713 braided a cook's game winner.
00:53:39Those are three, three plays that deserve to be together on this list.
00:53:43Um, and I absolutely love that.
00:53:47Um, I got a couple, a couple of picks.
00:53:49Let's see how many picks I have left to make here.
00:53:51I have four picks left.
00:53:52Four picks.
00:53:53Yeah.
00:53:53Still don't have the one in a loss.
00:53:55Still don't have the one in the divisional round.
00:53:59I think I can get both of those later.
00:54:01So I was going to be my 18 and 19.
00:54:04So let's see what I got here.
00:54:08Uh, I'm, I'm waffling between, between a couple at this point.
00:54:17There's going to be a couple that I feel really bad about leaving out, but let's
00:54:21go back to a super bowl we've talked about previously, and let's go back to
00:54:27an out route in a super bowl that we've talked about recently, but a super
00:54:31bowl 51 run overtime, and we're going to Tom Brady hitting Danny Amendola with
00:54:37the most quickly thrown out route football I have ever seen in my life.
00:54:42And that's a situation where if you under throw it by an inch, that's
00:54:45you've thrown your second pick six of the game.
00:54:47And this one is to lose the super bowl and overcome, uh, just a good one.
00:54:52Yeah.
00:54:52And every time I see that, uh, have you seen Friday night lights?
00:54:57The show, the, no, the show.
00:54:59No.
00:55:00Oh, okay.
00:55:01Well, there's no, I'm going to spoil what happens in the episode here.
00:55:05Yeah.
00:55:06Backup quarterback has to go in and become the starter.
00:55:09I, uh, they're proud in practice and they're telling him he
00:55:12needs to get his confidence up.
00:55:13And the one thing to tell him was the hardest throw to make in football is
00:55:16from is that, that deep out route to hit it and get it over the underneath
00:55:20defender and a coach takes him out to the field in the middle of the night
00:55:23and just has him throw it over and over and over until he can hit it.
00:55:26And that's all I can think about when Tom Brady makes that, like, that's
00:55:30just such a hard thread to make in that situation and killing the Falcons
00:55:34and man coverage outside the numbers all night, keep it up there.
00:55:37It's an unbelievable throw.
00:55:39Yeah.
00:55:40Iconic, iconic, bro.
00:55:41And it's, it kind of gets undersold.
00:55:44I think
00:55:44when, you know, it's one of those ones where, because the thing, and just
00:55:50honestly here, what ends up happening is that those guys, the guys in the booth,
00:55:56they've seen a billion plays, right.
00:55:59And Joe Buck, I mean, what a throw him into like, he, he says it right away.
00:56:04Like the, the throw was absolutely perfect.
00:56:09And like, if you aren't, if you don't know football, it just a home, just a
00:56:14throw, just a completion, like just looks, it looks normal, it looks easy.
00:56:18It's nothing crazy, but to know the difficulty of that throw, the difficulty
00:56:24level of that throw, and to just make it look so easy is, is insane.
00:56:28So that's a great one.
00:56:30Yeah.
00:56:31Um, all right.
00:56:32My, my last one, my last one, my second one here, I'm going, I'm going to go back
00:56:38to a Randy Moss touchdown because he needs to be on this list a couple of times.
00:56:42Okay.
00:56:44And I think, I think there, to me, there are two that are in contention for second
00:56:49best Randy Moss touchdown of that season.
00:56:51And it just depends on how you want to take it.
00:56:57I think I'm going to go with the Brady to Moss touchdown, his second touchdown of
00:57:02the game against Miami down in South beach in 07, the one that he caught was
00:57:07bicep, the one where it's two defenders trying to make a play on him, you know,
00:57:13like spitting him around and Moss catches it seemingly without leaving the ground.
00:57:18Effortlessly.
00:57:19And one of the Dolphins defenders, I believe toward his ACL, yeah.
00:57:23Yeah.
00:57:24Yeah.
00:57:25Uh, and it's just inevitability of that moment.
00:57:30It felt unstoppable.
00:57:31And I think there's a great Kevin, I believe it's a Kevin Clark article,
00:57:34leave on the ringer and old one about that offense.
00:57:37And it features an interview with that defensive back who got hurt on that play.
00:57:42And he was talking about how, cause he, he got Moss twice in that he talks about
00:57:47how he was trying to make a play on the ball.
00:57:52Uh, it's like, are you throwing to me?
00:57:53It's time to make a play.
00:57:54And it's like, I did everything I could and then.
00:57:57It's touchdown.
00:57:57Wait, what?
00:57:59I don't know what should happen.
00:58:00Yeah.
00:58:01It was like, like, like he's just lived his entire life for this moment and to
00:58:08just get completely thrown aside.
00:58:10Um, yeah, just disrespectful and, um, great Brady to Moss in the, in the, in
00:58:15the absolute best way, at least for the Patriots.
00:58:18Oh yeah.
00:58:20So that's a good one.
00:58:21That's really good.
00:58:21All right.
00:58:23Woo.
00:58:24All right.
00:58:24End of the eighth round here.
00:58:26And I am, I'm going with, with one that's pretty high on my list here.
00:58:30Well, at least when I was writing them down, first thinking about it, 2018
00:58:34comes in a loss, by the way, uh, comes in a loss.
00:58:37Oh, 2018.
00:58:39Oh, Miami.
00:58:41In absolute.
00:58:43So I think it was a 40.
00:58:46I don't know how long it was 40 some odd yards, Tom Brady to Cordero Patterson.
00:58:52Just the way here's the thing about Brady, right?
00:58:55We all know Brady's the greatest of all time, but like when you see him do things.
00:59:02Like he did in that, on that Cordero Patterson throw that ball had no air under
00:59:08I mean, zero air under it.
00:59:10That ball was a straight up line drive from Tom Brady's shoulder to Cordero
00:59:17Patterson's hands in 2018 in Miami.
00:59:21When he's 40 plus years old, just an absolute rocket of a pass that
00:59:27Patterson catches for a touchdown.
00:59:29And that was one of those ones where like you question his arm strength and
00:59:32you question how good he was still.
00:59:34And you question all this stuff.
00:59:35And then you watch that play and you're just like, how do you stop that?
00:59:41It's impossible to stop that.
00:59:43And it's so impressive.
00:59:44And of course that's the, that's the game where the Miami miracle
00:59:47where the Patriots end up losing because.
00:59:49Oh, because of JC Jackson, but Grock house, he takes a bad
00:59:51angle and the Patriots lose.
00:59:53Um, but that's just one of those ones where like end of his career, you're
00:59:58like, oh, you're not sure he's the goat yet.
01:00:00Take a look at this play.
01:00:01Okay.
01:00:01He's, he's still the goat.
01:00:03He's still got it.
01:00:04Yeah.
01:00:04That was in just doing that at that age, like a throw through that
01:00:08harder than like Mac Jones has to ever throw a football at that age.
01:00:13Casually for like 37 years, I'll shout on the court, Errol Patterson.
01:00:16Like, um, I'm very annoyed.
01:00:20You took that.
01:00:20Cause I was banking on that being here when I came back.
01:00:23Sorry, sir.
01:00:23Sorry, sir.
01:00:24Uh, yeah, no, that's, that's a good one now.
01:00:31All right.
01:00:32I'm going to go with a little bit of an underrated one, one that I think
01:00:35isn't on a lot of people's radars.
01:00:38Um, but one that I think if you look it up, if you watch it, it's
01:00:45really an incredible throw and play.
01:00:48Uh, and it comes from the 2002 season, which of course is the only season
01:00:51where Brady was the starter and they didn't make the playoffs.
01:00:53Um, but it comes to the O2 season in Chicago.
01:00:58In actually that's not true in Champaign, Illinois, the home
01:01:02of the Illinois fighting Illini.
01:01:05Oh, this is a great one.
01:01:06And, uh, them losing at the very end of the game and Tom Brady throws
01:01:11just an absolutely perfect pass in the back corner of the end zone to David
01:01:17Patton to win the game against the Chicago bears and get out of there
01:01:21somehow with a victory that throw.
01:01:25So I was watching it today.
01:01:26Cause I was like, all right.
01:01:27I remember the story being a good throw.
01:01:28And then you watch the throw and the defenders, right?
01:01:31I mean, the defenders right there, it's great coverage.
01:01:35And there's just not a thing that the guy can do about it.
01:01:38Brant, uh, Patton gets both of his feet down and absolutely incredible one.
01:01:42And it gets, it gets overlooked because it's a regular season game.
01:01:47It's in 2002, which again is the only season that the Patriots don't make
01:01:50the playoffs with Tom Brady as a starting quarterback, um, but just an
01:01:54incredible finish to, to a great game and an unbelievable throw.
01:01:57And so that's, uh, that's my ninth round pick my, my penultimate pick as it were.
01:02:01Ooh, good, good.
01:02:03Uh, SAT awards.
01:02:04All right.
01:02:05I was banking on that quarter.
01:02:06Earl Patterson catch me Brady, Brady touchdown and loss one here.
01:02:11So I'm going to, I'm going to give my, I don't have one of the division around.
01:02:15So I'm going to give mine for that one first and then take a second to
01:02:19figure out what my backup is here.
01:02:21All right.
01:02:22A loss.
01:02:23Um, and I got, I had two individual rounds that I think are kind of in that
01:02:28next tier compared to the LaFella one.
01:02:31Um, one of them, let's see how I want to do this.
01:02:34I think it, one of them is a longer, but the other one I think is higher
01:02:39difficulty and I'm going to give this one to the higher difficulty one.
01:02:44And it's Tom Brady.
01:02:46I believe I, I get two games this season confused.
01:02:48So I believe this isn't the playoff game.
01:02:51Brady to Shane Vereen against the Texans in 2012, dropping it
01:02:55into a bucket on the middle map.
01:02:58Yeah, that was the, the Patriots destroyed the Texans franchise in two
01:03:02games at the end of that season.
01:03:04And just, you know, you're, it's, it's a higher difficulty throw than the
01:03:09window LaFella, which you throw it to a smaller target who's covered more
01:03:13tightly and it's a less impactful spot in the game, you know, they had the lead.
01:03:17But yeah, to blow them out in the divisional round like that and to make
01:03:21a play like that was, it's a great throw.
01:03:24Yeah.
01:03:24It's a great throw.
01:03:26Uh, was that the, uh, was that the, the, um, the jackets here?
01:03:32Yeah.
01:03:33Did a lot of my jackets.
01:03:34Okay.
01:03:35Yeah.
01:03:37Worked out for them.
01:03:39And they played the credit.
01:03:40They did play like varsity high school seniors.
01:03:44That is a great point.
01:03:45Yeah.
01:03:46Uh, I, I'm, I need a little help from you on this last one because
01:03:49I got, I got a couple of throws here.
01:03:51Okay.
01:03:52I think I'm thinking of, I just want to run a couple by year.
01:03:54Cause I need, I need one in a loss.
01:03:57Um, I think the right approach to this stick one from the
01:04:04super bowl against the Eagles.
01:04:06So it's the greatest, the far and away, the greatest super bowl performance.
01:04:10In a loss by quarterback.
01:04:12It's not even close.
01:04:14Yeah.
01:04:15Um, it's between your touchdown to Gronk at the end to
01:04:20finally give you the lead.
01:04:22Right.
01:04:23Yeah.
01:04:23They had the lead after that.
01:04:25Or at 26 yards or two, Chris Hogan, you know, you get that a
01:04:29big chunk play or a touchdown.
01:04:32The way here, I think I lean towards Brady, the Gronk late in
01:04:36the super bowl to put you ahead.
01:04:37I think that's, I think probably, I liked the Hogan one a lot too, but I
01:04:41think, I think that that one makes sense.
01:04:46Um, just because of the stakes.
01:04:51Right.
01:04:52Yeah.
01:04:53So I like that.
01:04:54I like that one.
01:04:55And it's a, yeah.
01:04:56Throw at that point in the game, that game was out of control the whole way.
01:05:01Oh yeah.
01:05:02That was the only point where it felt like the Patriots might have control
01:05:05from, from that row to the Eagle deciding to go for it on fourth down
01:05:11on the following possession is the only stretch that night, right.
01:05:14It was remotely comfortable before I'm fourth down.
01:05:17I kind of felt like the game was over before they can, just when
01:05:21they decided it felt over.
01:05:23Right.
01:05:23Right.
01:05:24Yeah.
01:05:24That was tough.
01:05:26Yeah.
01:05:27All right.
01:05:28Back to me for the final pick.
01:05:29We're going to run through some honorable mentions afterwards.
01:05:32Um, that didn't make the cut.
01:05:35Yeah.
01:05:36My problem is that I have, let's see.
01:05:381, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.
01:05:45I have seven more throws on my list, uh, that haven't been taken yet.
01:05:49I like them all.
01:05:51There are a couple of really good throws.
01:05:53They're going to be, yeah.
01:05:54I mean, the thing is, is that, you know, you can, I mean, shoot, we can do,
01:05:57you can do this forever, right?
01:05:59You do this forever.
01:06:01Um, by the way, my, uh, my, my dad has texted me as he is want to do during
01:06:06the show and he has said, uh, that Tom Brady had 59, 59 fourth quarter or
01:06:12overtime passes to break a tie or go ahead.
01:06:16Yeah.
01:06:1659.
01:06:18We can just rank those 59.
01:06:20Like that's an episode.
01:06:22That's like four episodes.
01:06:24Um, so, okay.
01:06:27Uh, shoot.
01:06:28What the heck am I going to do here, man?
01:06:30Um, okay.
01:06:35I'm going to go with the one that I think might be.
01:06:40Yep.
01:06:41I'm going to go with the one that I think might be the most impactful, uh, that
01:06:46might be like the biggest watershed moment perhaps, and yeah.
01:06:55Okay, fine.
01:06:56Well, I really don't want to, I don't want to.
01:07:00We all make me choose.
01:07:01Um, yeah.
01:07:03All right.
01:07:03Fine.
01:07:03I'm going to go with, all right.
01:07:07I'm gonna set the scene again.
01:07:08I like setting the scene.
01:07:10I'm saying again, there's a minute and 44 seconds left to go.
01:07:16The St.
01:07:17Louis Rams, the greatest show on turf have just tied the Superbowl.
01:07:23The Patriots of course, with their second year quarterback, first year
01:07:25starting quarterback or walking out there with a chance to win the game
01:07:29or perhaps go drain out and give the ball back to the Rams drew blood.
01:07:35So has said, forget what everyone else says and go sling it in, you know,
01:07:42and on the very first play, Tom Brady goes back to pass and one of their, I
01:07:49don't know if it's Grant Winstrom or, uh, or Leonard little takes a swipe at
01:07:53the ball and almost strip sacks, Tom Brady, who has to step up and avoid
01:08:00more pressure and then get the ball out to JR Redmond for about a four yard gain.
01:08:06Doesn't seem like much, but two things.
01:08:10Number one, obviously if it's a strip sack, the game's over clearly.
01:08:14Yeah.
01:08:15If Brady gets sacked on that play, which he's getting hit as he gets rid of the
01:08:20ball, but he gets sacked in that play, the Patriots are taking a knee and trying
01:08:23to send it to overtime, and so the fact that Brady gets away, dumps the ball
01:08:30down to JR Redmond again, it's only four or five yard gain, but that four or five
01:08:34yard gain allowed them to throw it underneath, pass the JR Redmond on the
01:08:39next play, pick up a first town, throw another flat route, pass the JR Redmond
01:08:43where he breaks the tackle and dives the ball out of bounds, then hits Troy Brown
01:08:48on the crossing route and Superbowl, right?
01:08:50Then his Troy Brown, the crossing route, which you have on the list,
01:08:52then hits Jermaine Wiggins, then they kick the field goal in the game.
01:08:56If he doesn't make that play, I don't want to say the Patriots
01:09:00definitely lose the game.
01:09:01I don't want to say that because we don't know what would have happened, but just
01:09:04the way that things have been going, if he either gets strip sacked and the
01:09:09Patriots are covered, I clearly, if the Rams are covered, they lose, right?
01:09:11Obviously, but if he gets stripped sack and the Patriots are covered or he gets
01:09:15sacked as he's stepping up, I'm convinced the Patriots lose that game.
01:09:20And so it's a four yard pass in the stat book, but that pass to me might have some
01:09:27of the greatest repercussions ever for the, with the Brady throw.
01:09:31And so, uh, that one is my final pick in this draft.
01:09:36That's a great one.
01:09:37Just in terms of impact, it's less, less so the throw and more so the
01:09:41awareness, which was Tom Brady.
01:09:44Like that's what he brought to the table.
01:09:46Incredible awareness in the pocket.
01:09:48You know, you go back to the dynasty documentary and they talked about why
01:09:51they made the decision for Brady over blood cell and it was ability to avoid
01:09:56pressure, ability to not take sacks, to still make plays with the ball.
01:10:00And in the biggest stage, in the biggest moment with the game on the line, him
01:10:05doing that is the little thing that sets up the big things that come there.
01:10:09Yep.
01:10:10Yep.
01:10:13Yeah.
01:10:13My mystery.
01:10:15Um, all right.
01:10:16So a few, do you want me to run through the actual teams that we picked?
01:10:21Yeah, let's do it.
01:10:22Yeah, do it.
01:10:23All right, Pat, you have Brady to LaFell in 2014 against Baltimore, the game
01:10:29winner, Brady to Hogan, the third down conversion to start the Superbowl 51
01:10:34game, tying drive ready to Brown overtime winner in Miami, fourth in 10 in Denver
01:10:40and the AFC championship game, ready to the element on third and 14 in the
01:10:45Superbowl, Brady, the Tompkins and 18, by the way, third and 18, sorry.
01:10:51Wasn't that was third and that was third and 14, third and 18 was against
01:10:55Jacksonville in the 2017 AFC champs.
01:10:57Oh, you're right.
01:10:58I don't know why it was.
01:10:58Yeah.
01:10:59Oh.
01:10:59Cause they picked up, they pick up four yards on the play.
01:11:03Yeah.
01:11:05Yeah.
01:11:05Oh, I think maybe it doesn't matter.
01:11:08Yeah.
01:11:09Um, Brady, the Tompkins of Brady cooks, those game winners ready to Patterson
01:11:14the line drive and missile in 2018, Brady to Patton in Oh two, the game winner in
01:11:19Chicago and Brady to J R Redmond to start the Superbowl 36 game winning drive.
01:11:25I've got Brady to Moss for Brady's 50th and Moss's 23rd Brady Detroit Brown to
01:11:31set up the game winner in Superbowl 36 Brady to Gronk to set up the game winner
01:11:35in Superbowl 53 Brady to branch to kick off the AFC championship game in Oh four
01:11:41in Pittsburgh, Brady to branch to set up the game winner in Superbowl 38 Brady to
01:11:47Gaffney, the game winner against Baltimore, Brady to Amendola, the out route and
01:11:51overtime at the Superbowl Brady to Moss second touchdown in Miami and Oh seven.
01:11:56The another one of those throw it up ones for you to read on the wheel
01:12:00route against Houston and the divisional round in 2012 and Brady to Gronk go
01:12:06ahead, Superbowl touchdown in Superbowl 52.
01:12:10That's a great one.
01:12:11That's a heck of a list.
01:12:12And the crazy thing is that the stuff that we left out is outrageous.
01:12:16And so a few honorable mentions here and Matt, yeah, we can go throw, throw, throw
01:12:21here.
01:12:21Yeah.
01:12:21Yeah.
01:12:22Chime in with a few.
01:12:23Uh, I got David Patton in the corner of the end zone, the Superbowl 36.
01:12:26Of course, the only touchdown pass that gets thrown in that game by Brady on my
01:12:29list.
01:12:30Uh, just an unbelievable, unbelievable throw.
01:12:33Of course, drew blood.
01:12:33So it made one two weeks or I guess a week earlier to David Patton in the corner of
01:12:37the end zone in Pittsburgh.
01:12:39Um, which was, which was crazy.
01:12:41Um, I have Ben Watson game winner in 2009 against the bills on opening night.
01:12:47Brady's return from his ACL injury.
01:12:50That one was, he hit Watson for a touchdown.
01:12:54Leotis McKelvin on the, on the kick return fumbled.
01:13:00The Patriots recovered the fumble and scored another touchdown to Ben Watson.
01:13:04And the second throw was incredible.
01:13:06Uh, back shoulder throw with the defender draped all over him.
01:13:10And I'm another line drive, but now we're only, his guy can go get it in a tight
01:13:14window.
01:13:15Incredible.
01:13:15Incredible.
01:13:16That's where side note, we talk about talent when it comes to quarterback and
01:13:20some of the throws on here require the touch or the velocity that they require
01:13:25for quarterback to make.
01:13:27It's like, yeah, we off the chart.
01:13:30Everybody spends so much time laughing at the combine photo of Tom Brady that we
01:13:33all forget that he was like a six, four dude with long arms who put on a ton of
01:13:37muscle and good.
01:13:38So lay it.
01:13:39Yeah.
01:13:40Oh yeah.
01:13:40Um, I have the Amadola touchdown in 20, in, uh, 2014 Superbowl 49.
01:13:46I, another great back shoulder throw only where Amadola could catch it.
01:13:51The only spot it could be thrown in over the linebacker to the, to the right of
01:13:56the, of Earl Thomas, just a great throw, um, on that one, honestly pick one of the
01:14:03three against the chiefs in the AFC championship game.
01:14:06Uh, you know, the third and tens, I didn't have a throw on my list because
01:14:10there were so many in that game that were big and that I couldn't pick one.
01:14:14Yeah.
01:14:15It's just, you know, third and 10 and overtime, third and 10 and overtime, third
01:14:18and 10 and overtime.
01:14:19And it's like, okay, just pick one of them.
01:14:21Uh, if you want a bunch and regulation to the touchdown at door set in that game
01:14:25really doesn't get talked about that much, but he drops that right.
01:14:29Oh, it's an unbelievable throw.
01:14:30Yeah.
01:14:30Yeah.
01:14:31Yep.
01:14:31I'm going to throw.
01:14:32Uh, can I, I'm going to piggyback off this comment, right?
01:14:35Yes.
01:14:36James says, you know, mentions that none of us had a flea flicker.
01:14:39None of us did have a flea flicker, but I did have two on my list that
01:14:42didn't make it in both against Pittsburgh.
01:14:44You got Brady to Hogan in the AFC championship game, 2016.
01:14:48You also have a throw that I might actually like even more than that.
01:14:52And that's Brady to Moss back to Brady to Jabbar Gaffney, you know, seven to
01:14:58go right over Mr.
01:14:59I guarantee we're going to win this game.
01:15:03So good.
01:15:04That's such a great one.
01:15:05Brady loves stuffing in his face.
01:15:07That was so great.
01:15:08Yeah.
01:15:10Um, let's see what else I got on here.
01:15:12I had a good, no, I was just gonna say I had a, I had a Brady to Moss in oh
01:15:17nine against the dolphins and their throwbacks.
01:15:21Uh, it's a, it's a fake reverse.
01:15:24So he fakes the handoff.
01:15:27Um, I think to Moroni, I assume I, I honestly don't even remember who the,
01:15:32who the guy was then fakes the verse to Wes Welker, then turns around and
01:15:37throws an absolute bomb to Randy Moss, uh, for a touchdown there.
01:15:40So I liked that one a lot.
01:15:42Again, that's oh nine in the throwbacks against the dolphins.
01:15:45Uh,
01:15:47did, did I feel like did Kumar Aiken or Sam, Sam Aiken, did
01:15:51he even touchdown in that game?
01:15:52I feel like he did.
01:15:54He might've, he might be right.
01:15:56One of the Aikens, you may be right.
01:15:58Um,
01:15:58I think I too, I think I have two more, uh, well, I guess I have three more
01:16:05technically, although one of them, um, you know, but anyways, uh, Malcolm
01:16:09Mitchell, Malcolm Mitchell against the 49ers in, in 2016, just a ridiculous
01:16:15throw again, another absolute seed by Brady throws it, throws it into traffic.
01:16:21And Malcolm Mitchell like thought he was gonna get blown up.
01:16:23Cause he just assumed that there's four guys around him and
01:16:25someone's going to hit me.
01:16:25No one hit him.
01:16:27And he just, and he just took off.
01:16:29Um, and so that was, that was a great throw as well.
01:16:32Um,
01:16:33yup.
01:16:34Yup.
01:16:35And then, uh, Danny Amendola on the back of the end zone against Jacksonville in
01:16:38the 2017 AFC, James, your game to take the lead, um, a lead that of course they
01:16:43held on to because of the Stefan Gilmore play on fourth down there, but just an
01:16:47unbelievable throw and catch by him and Dola, uh, tapping his toes in
01:16:50the back of the end zone there.
01:16:52Yeah.
01:16:52And I think, you know, you go back earlier in that game, I had third and
01:16:5518 to Amendola in that game on my list.
01:16:58Um, great, great throw on that one.
01:17:00His ability to move defenders to, you know, that was, um, when I get
01:17:06spatic for a second, that was that cover for the Jacksonville like to run that
01:17:09year and when it's a third and 18 cover for basically just because of man
01:17:13coverage down the field and with like a couple underneath zone defenders and
01:17:18Brady recognized that knew what was happening, knew the leverage Amendola
01:17:22and then like swiveled his hips in a way to move one of the, one of the
01:17:26defenders out of the throwing plane and fires it right where he was.
01:17:29Um, and avoids, you know, I think he throws that into a slide.
01:17:33So Amendola can avoid the contact from a defender.
01:17:36Like, oh my God, just gorgeous, gorgeous quarterback play there.
01:17:40Um, what else do I have here?
01:17:42Oh, uh, can't believe this didn't make it Brady to Welker in Miami.
01:17:4599 yard touchdown.
01:17:47That was like such a great throw.
01:17:50It's such a great, I mean, two defenders.
01:17:52Unbelievable in stride.
01:17:54Yeah, it's perfect.
01:17:57Uh, Brady did a Terry Glenn first touchdown pass.
01:18:00Yeah.
01:18:02Another first Brady to Moss their first touchdown.
01:18:08I was, I was rewatching that game the other day.
01:18:11Cause I was just, I put it on for some background noise because I was like, I
01:18:14just want to like hear this and I'm really yearning for football in the
01:18:18season.
01:18:19So let me just throw this on and hear some sounds football and watching the way
01:18:23that offense operated and watching how Moss got more involved throughout the
01:18:27game, eventually then, you know, that the secret to that play was, I think they
01:18:31put like three tight ends or two tight ends and a fullback out there and they
01:18:35run and play action and it's Randy Moss, 50 yards of downfield covered by three
01:18:40people, but the three people are two safeties and a linebacker, like, yeah.
01:18:46But that was the moment now I'm a little bit older than you, Matt.
01:18:50So I was a little bit older at the time.
01:18:52I had to graduate college already, but, um, that was the moment where we weren't
01:18:57sure what we were getting with Randy Moss, right?
01:18:59Randy Moss just coming out of Oakland.
01:19:01Kind of hadn't looked good the last few years.
01:19:02It kind of, okay.
01:19:03He's a malcontent.
01:19:04He's not whatever.
01:19:06And you just wondered like, what are we going to get from Randy Moss?
01:19:09Who is he?
01:19:10This guy still, does he still have it?
01:19:13And that play, I was like, oh boy, the league's in real trouble because that
01:19:18was Randy's jogging essentially.
01:19:20And just blowing by everyone.
01:19:22And you're like, there's just, I mean, no, one's going to ever stop this team.
01:19:25And they didn't until the giants did of course.
01:19:28But, uh, but yeah, that was kind of the moment where I was like, oh man, this
01:19:31is, this is different.
01:19:32This is something we haven't seen.
01:19:34He didn't really practice that much because he was dealing with an injury
01:19:38and playing the preseason.
01:19:39So like, I know, I think, I think it was also in the dynasty document or they
01:19:44talked about how, like even the team, like they didn't quite know what this,
01:19:48like they knew it was going to be good, but they didn't quite know exactly what
01:19:51it was going to look like when it got going.
01:19:53And then that jets game came and they steamrolled them and like, it was like,
01:19:58okay, yep, no, we figured it out.
01:20:00We know, we know how good this can be.
01:20:02Um, another throw in a divisional round.
01:20:05It didn't get mentioned here.
01:20:06What's from Rashay Caldwell love ready to Rashay Caldwell to set up the game
01:20:10winner in San Diego in oh six.
01:20:13Uh, obviously Caldwell, uh, a week later would disappoint people, but in that
01:20:19moment, incredible throw, incredible catch down the sidelines, set it up.
01:20:23Yeah.
01:20:24Great one.
01:20:25Um, here's another one for you.
01:20:26This is not, you're not going to find this in any stats or anything.
01:20:31Bring it to, I believe Patrick might've been Patrick pass somebody in oh four
01:20:36against the Bengals, the play where he gets tripped as he's dropping back and
01:20:40is sitting on the ground and somehow gets a complete pass out of it for a gain.
01:20:46Yup.
01:20:47So good.
01:20:48I just, it's yeah.
01:20:49And again, we can go down the list of these.
01:20:51I, we could do this all night long, all night.
01:20:54Um, I, I considered as an honorable mention, cause I would never actually
01:21:00pick it, but I consider it as an honorable mention, the, the failed
01:21:03Larry to, to Randy Moss in, in, because it's just one of the best throws I've
01:21:08ever, I mean, it's just an absolutely outrageous throw of course, clearly
01:21:12it's incomplete, but like the fact that they would have won the Superbowl with
01:21:16the most incredible ending of all time with that throw and it was over time.
01:21:21Like they, right.
01:21:22When I, I remember cause the play everybody thinks about, it's
01:21:28not the fourth down play.
01:21:29It's the third down play.
01:21:30That's, that's the one that was close.
01:21:33If I remember correctly, looking it up, that's had, I think still had
01:21:37two timeouts at that point and like 20 or 30 seconds on the clock.
01:21:43And they would have been within the 20 yard line if that's completed.
01:21:46So if that's the case, you're basically good for the, for overtime and you've
01:21:50got a couple of shots at the end zone to win the Superbowl with the best
01:21:53offense in NFL history at that point.
01:21:55Yeah.
01:21:55Um, I think that is the greatest incompletion in NFL history.
01:22:00If we're going to play that game.
01:22:02I know I don't really want to, but, but you're right.
01:22:04No, I don't either.
01:22:05Like just, just absolutely incredible.
01:22:09I'm trying, I'm trying to think if there's, and I'm sure there's
01:22:10others that we're missing.
01:22:12Yeah.
01:22:13I mean, listen, he played for, he played for 20 years at the Patriots.
01:22:16There's definitely others, right.
01:22:18But 2013 against the Broncos that come back, he had a couple that, that
01:22:22threat element in the end zone was a second touchdown of the game.
01:22:28Um, racking my brain right now.
01:22:31I'm trying to think if there's anything else that I thought 2010
01:22:34probably need more love on the list.
01:22:36Cause he was, he did win the MVP.
01:22:38It was incredible that year.
01:22:40So, but anyway, well, this was, this was a lot of fun.
01:22:43I think what we're going to do, Matt, we talked about a little bit.
01:22:46I think we're going to write this up for Pat's pulpit, um, release it.
01:22:51And what I think we're going to do is actually what I'd like to do.
01:22:54If we can find all the links I'd like to link to each one of these, you
01:23:01know, each one of these throws, the one thing that's missing from this show.
01:23:05Of course, we're on YouTube.
01:23:06The one thing that's missing from this show is a video clip of each one of these.
01:23:10Number one, we didn't have the time to go through that and do that.
01:23:13Number two, I just don't know if we have the copyright to be able to do that.
01:23:17So I just decided, yeah, let's, let's not do that, but we can
01:23:20link to them on the Pat's pulpit.
01:23:22So, uh, we're gonna try to get that out to you in the next few days.
01:23:25Um, and you know, so you can rewatch all these, uh, you know, 20 great throws.
01:23:32Um, and so, so yeah, so that's that, um, Murph, what are you talking about?
01:23:39My dude, I assume he's not talking about Gronk in Superbowl 36.
01:23:43I assume he's talking about Gronk in the last Superbowl.
01:23:45Um, he's either, he's either talking about pretty to Brown and Superbowl
01:23:4936 or Brady Gronk at Superbowl 53.
01:23:52But Gronk was a baby.
01:23:54Uh, yeah, I would assume he's, I'm going to, I'm going to say he's, I'm
01:23:58going to assume that he's talking about 53.
01:24:00Um, and that is on, on Matt's list.
01:24:04That's correct.
01:24:04Also shout out to Murph.
01:24:06Uh, shout out to Murph.
01:24:07I'm wearing, uh, uh, a recommendation for Murph.
01:24:11Tag me on Twitter.
01:24:13Um, accidentally how it's called.
01:24:15And look at this, this sweet, sweet shirt.
01:24:18Come on, dude.
01:24:19And for those just listening, it says I've gone zero days without making a dad joke.
01:24:24It's in my previous record is zero days.
01:24:26Yup.
01:24:27Oh my goodness.
01:24:28It's so good.
01:24:30What is the school today?
01:24:31The kids are like, oh my God, just get out of here.
01:24:34So, um, fantastic.
01:24:36Good stuff.
01:24:37So, um, but anyways, but Hey, thank you.
01:24:41Listen, thank you.
01:24:43Thank you to everyone for coming through Matt.
01:24:44This has been kind of fun.
01:24:46This is one of those things.
01:24:47And again, Wednesday is that time when everyone's going to, you know, get a
01:24:50chance to reflect and get a chance to, um, get a chance to appreciate what we
01:24:56had in Tom Brady and celebrate what was there.
01:24:59And we're going to go through, um, I'm sure a litany of throws and moments and
01:25:04the montages are going to be insane.
01:25:07Um, and I, I for one can't wait.
01:25:09I will be there.
01:25:10I'm very excited about it.
01:25:11Um, and so, you know, I'm, I'm looking forward to it and it's
01:25:15going to be an emotional night.
01:25:16And I think for everyone, um, but it's going to be a lot of fun and, and to
01:25:21relive some of those moments is going to be great.
01:25:23So yeah, I'm really looking forward to that.
01:25:26Well, it's, you know, we just get to sit here for an hour and a
01:25:28half and name some dudes, which
01:25:29right.
01:25:30Oh, what's better than that?
01:25:32I just, I want to, I want to like, I just want to come over right now, grab a
01:25:36beer and keep talking about our favorite.
01:25:38Yep.
01:25:39Yep.
01:25:40We're not rabbit holes.
01:25:41You're not rabbit hole guys.
01:25:42You know what I mean?
01:25:43See, it's just like, you know, for one, yep, yep.
01:25:47So there is, if you haven't seen it, there's a few things on, but I was
01:25:52watching earlier today, I was watching the, the a hundred greatest moments of
01:25:55Brady's career.
01:25:57Um, and it just literally counts down from, from a hundred to one, uh, which is
01:26:01really cool.
01:26:01So that's a good one.
01:26:03I was a lot of throws, but a lot of runs as well on there as well.
01:26:06And yeah, we've got James in the chat.
01:26:08Obviously on Thursday, we're going to be doing a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a,
01:26:13a, a, a, a, a 10 runs from Tom Brady.
01:26:19He does have a thousand yards rushing does have a thousand yards rushing.
01:26:22So like 17 of those are gonna be Neil downs.
01:26:25That's true.
01:26:26That is a great point when, you know, what is the best Brady crime where he, where
01:26:30he jukes out Brian or lacquer, obviously a embrace.
01:26:35Or you could also say, was it third and eight or fourth and eight?
01:26:38I think it was fourth down in super bowl, four, fifth, super bowl
01:26:40fifty one wasn't it?
01:26:41Where he picked up the first time.
01:26:42I think it was third down, they had just converted the fourth down before.
01:26:46Yeah, yeah, you're right, so but yeah, maybe, but either way.
01:26:50But you've got the run against the Raiders in the snowball.
01:26:55Yep, if I touch down and then he spikes the ball and
01:26:58falls on his face like yeah, it's some good ones.
01:27:01One of my favorite Tom Brady moments, yeah, and
01:27:04him diving over the top against the Ravens in 2011.
01:27:07Good point, yep, good point.
01:27:09So, so, all right, we better not go down that rabbit hole.
01:27:13We'll be here another round.
01:27:13Yeah, we'll be here, yeah.
01:27:15So also, shout out Murph is correct.
01:27:17UConn, New England beats LA once again.
01:27:21Danny Hurley staying home at UConn.
01:27:23That's one thing we didn't talk about, Big E's guy.
01:27:26I'm sure as a Big E's fan, you're not happy about it.
01:27:30No, Dan Hurley needs to go.
01:27:31He's really good, and I do not want my team to go against his team anymore.
01:27:35He can leave.
01:27:36Yeah, yeah, no, he's got a chance here.
01:27:39He's gonna go to the NBA at some point.
01:27:41I think he do, I do think he wants to stay on the East Coast.
01:27:44So I think when Tibbs leaves, that's what I think.
01:27:48When Tibbs leaves that job, I think it makes a lot of sense for him to go there.
01:27:52I don't think he'll be a great NBA coach, not to disparage him, but
01:27:55because what he does works so well at the college level, and
01:27:59I'm not sure it'll translate.
01:28:00Yep.
01:28:01But, you know, it's interesting, though, because I don't know.
01:28:05I mean, I don't know if it works at the college level necessarily either,
01:28:08because these guys are getting paid now, right?
01:28:10And so if you, but you have to buy into the system is the biggest thing.
01:28:13Well, and I mean, one of the big things is, like, he runs very intricate plays
01:28:19that are, take a long time to develop when you got, you know, 15 seconds on
01:28:24the shot clock when you're actually setting up in the NBA compared to how
01:28:28much you have in college, how much time to do some of that stuff, but not to
01:28:32disparage him, he is unfortunately a very, very good college head coach.
01:28:37Yeah.
01:28:38Yeah.
01:28:38So, so yeah.
01:28:40So anyways.
01:28:40All right.
01:28:41Well, thanks for pointing that out, Murph.
01:28:42We appreciate it.
01:28:43And again, thank you to the chat for, for coming through and, uh, and
01:28:46making this such a fun event as always.
01:28:48We'll be back Thursday.
01:28:49We'll be talking about the Brady thing.
01:28:51Of course, uh, some reactions, um, to that.
01:28:55And, um, and of course we'll be talking about the, the third day of Patriots
01:29:01mandatory mini camp, which is also going to happen on Wednesday as well.
01:29:04So, uh, come back for that on Thursday night and we will talk to you then.
01:29:09Thank you to everyone.
01:29:10And, uh, thanks for coming through and we'll talk to you then.
01:29:11Take care guys.
