00:00It's time for the Bob Ryan and Jeff Goodman Tag Week Along For The Ride pod, brought to
00:28you by PrizePix on CLNS, the exclusive Daily Fantasy partner of the CLNS Media Network.
00:34Pick more, pick less with PrizePix.
00:36So we are speaking to you as Game 4 is coming to a close.
00:42And I have to tell you that I'm okay with the Celtics losing.
00:45I understand.
00:46I wanted a sweep.
00:47I wanted to win in debt.
00:49I wanted a sweep tonight.
00:51But I just felt, Bob, that this team just quit.
00:55And that bothers me.
00:58I don't see that.
00:59They just stunk.
01:00I agree.
01:01They suck.
01:02All right.
01:03One, I'll give you one area where it has to do with in the determination and effort for
01:09sure that they should be held accountable.
01:13Rebounding.
01:14Rebounding.
01:15Offensive rebounding of Dallas, you know, and too many, every loose ball, they want
01:22all the quote unquote 50-50s.
01:24They want all the 10-90s.
01:25And the defense.
01:26I understand.
01:27Offense isn't.
01:28Look, the offense wasn't there.
01:29Nobody.
01:30Rebounding.
01:31Rebounding.
01:32Rebounding.
01:33Rebounding.
01:34Rebounding.
01:35That's effort.
01:36A lot of it.
01:37And they got out-efforted in every phase.
01:38I'll give you that.
01:39Okay.
01:40That bothers me.
01:41Dallas has been, I mean, without poor Zingas, honestly, Dallas has played him pretty damn
01:46close.
01:47Yes.
01:48Right?
01:49They have.
01:50I mean, they're not that far off without poor Zingas.
01:53I mean.
01:54Well.
01:55Listen.
01:56Do we.
01:57I mean.
01:58Listen.
01:59I mean, the Celts are up by 21 in game three and they stopped playing.
02:00Well.
02:01And they didn't have poor Zingas.
02:03I mean, I think the Celtics are their own worst enemy.
02:07Well tonight.
02:08But wait.
02:09Wait.
02:10I would say that normally.
02:12But tonight, the two guys that you probably trusted the most to bring their games and
02:18be solid were terrible.
02:20Drew Holiday and Derek White.
02:21Agreed.
02:22They were awful.
02:23They weren't themselves tonight.
02:24Jalen Brown was awful.
02:25Like, Tatum was the only one who came out and did anything in the first quarter when
02:29they got smoked.
02:31And after that, it really didn't matter, to be honest.
02:33They weren't cutting it.
02:35And Luka played the way we want to see Luka Donsitz play.
02:41Right?
02:42He played the right way.
02:43He took pride in his defense.
02:44No, he's not great laterally.
02:47But you know what?
02:48He gave.
02:49It was an A for effort tonight.
02:50He didn't give up anything easy.
02:52And he didn't whine and complain.
02:54And man, he didn't even make his threes in what he finished with, 29 points in 27 minutes
03:01or something.
03:02I mean, it was.
03:03It was a joke.
03:04I mean, he was leaps and bounds the best guy on the court.
03:06It wasn't even close.
03:07No.
03:08No.
03:09I mean, it was.
03:10I just keep going.
03:11As I said to somebody tonight, you got to look at.
03:14This is the micro.
03:15We can go.
03:16We can nitpick this game off.
03:20But it's about the macro and it's about, OK, the Celtics.
03:24The fact is, however much we want to, you know, parse this game, identify what went
03:30wrong and we can do that easily, you all know.
03:32The fact is that sweeps are rare.
03:35They have not had a sweep since 1959.
03:38They have not had a five game series since 1965.
03:42This is the NBA we're talking about, folks.
03:44Dallas showed the requisite dignity, nobility, grit.
03:51They fought the way you should fight.
03:55They played the ball race from another winter sport.
03:58They played desperate basketball and give them full credit.
04:02OK, it's not unprecedented, by the way.
04:05By the way, the 1986 Celtics, which, you know, I continue to feel is the greatest team of
04:09all time.
04:10They were up 3-0 against Atlanta and they lost game four because Spud Webb beat them.
04:15Now, what happened in game five?
04:18Celtics had that historic 36-6 third quarter against Atlanta.
04:20OK, I'm not saying we can look for a 36-6 third quarter, but I'll be very disappointed
04:25if the Celtics don't come out roaring on Monday night.
04:28Then we can help talk.
04:29But this will give fuel to the naysayers that, you know, until they get this job done, guys.
04:36For a couple of days, Bob, that's all.
04:3848 hours, whatever it's going to be, the naysayers can get it all out of their system.
04:43And then in game five, it's going to be over.
04:45And to be honest, it's going to be sweeter in a way because you can't shut those people
04:50up.
04:51They can't until it's done.
04:52Yeah.
04:53It's not done.
04:54And until it's done, they can't shut those people up.
04:58OK.
04:59You know, as sports fans, that's part of the deal, right?
05:02Meanwhile, I got to say that the smiles that you can feel and see in your imagination on
05:08the face of all the merchants in downtown Boston, all the restaurateurs, all the bartenders
05:14or bar owners, and not to mention management, they can say what they want, but they open
05:21up those doors for another X million dollar gate.
05:26So anyway, but I've got that.
05:28I'm simply saying that all kidding aside, the fact is that, you know, you know that
05:33the local restaurateurs were rooting for them to lose, whether they lost by one or one hundred
05:37and one.
05:38And so, look, I said, here's my here's my take, guys.
05:41I don't know what you I went public on this many times.
05:44I said the chances of winning tonight were 70 percent.
05:48The chances of winning on Monday, if they were to lose game four, were ninety eight
05:53point eight percent.
05:54And that's how I feel about Monday night.
05:57That's high tonight.
05:58I thought 70 percent was high tonight.
06:00I kind of looked at it as a flip of the coin.
06:02Well, the way to be playing so well, though, Jeff, you know, in general, I thought that,
06:07you know, and also because of the narrative that we're alluding to here, we know, you
06:11know, that that they are fighting to to get their niche in Celtic history and shut the
06:17people up to say that these guys don't have what it takes.
06:19You know, they got and they have the talent, but they don't have this one or two.
06:24I mean, it's it's human nature when you're up three to relax a little bit to think you're
06:30going to be able to go in, you know, they were super loose.
06:33You could see it pregame a little bit with the Celtics and they're always too loose.
06:37This seemed a little bit looser than usual, like, hey, we're going to go out here, we're
06:41going to win this thing tonight.
06:42No problem.
06:43We got this.
06:45But but again, I mean, when you got Luke and Kyrie Cook in it, oh, by the way, Derek Lively,
06:50twelve rebounds.
06:51Derek Lively, I predict we'll see an all star game before he's done.
06:56He's awesome.
06:57I like Derek Lively.
06:58I've said this.
06:59You know, Gafford is Gafford's reached his ceiling and give him credit.
07:04Here's a guy when he joined, I think I heard the number tonight when he came from a team
07:09that was nine in fifty one to he's in the game is in the NBA Finals.
07:15And he's he does what he does, you know.
07:16But Lively has more stuff.
07:18He's got a lot more to offer.
07:19He hit a three tonight.
07:20You can shoot it a little bit.
07:22Yeah.
07:23Gafford, you know, went to thirty three straight shots.
07:25I think the probably the cumulative cumulative distance of those thirty three shots was sixty
07:30six feet.
07:31That's that.
07:32And I'm not being facetious.
07:33He doesn't shoot.
07:34I know you're going to say sixty six inches.
07:39He makes layups and dunks.
07:40That's what he does.
07:41OK.
07:42He's going to have a long career because he also blocks shots and he does stuff.
07:45But the other guy is on the I think someday will be an all star.
07:50That was a very good draft pick.
07:52Prize Picks is America's number one fantasy sports app with more than five million members.
07:56It is the most fun and exciting way to get in on the action while you watch your favorite
08:00sports and players.
08:01You just pick more or less on two or more player stats for a shot to win up a hundred
08:06times your cash.
08:08With Prize Picks, you could turn ten dollars into a thousand dollars in a single game watching
08:12your favorite sports this summer.
08:15You can make a Prize Picks lineup in as little as 60 seconds.
08:18You just need to pick more or less on two to six player stat projections and you're
08:23locked in.
08:25Now if you're looking for promotions, Prize Picks has got you covered every week from
08:29lowering select player stats projections on Tuesdays, which increases your chance of getting
08:34a win to getting your entry fees back if you have a losing lineup on Fridays.
08:40The finals mean more on Prize Picks and so do the star players.
08:45You get boosted playoffs on selected basketball stars that you won't find anywhere else.
08:51Now this week on Prize Picks, I'm looking at Jason Tatum, more than 26 and a half points.
08:57Jalen Brown, more than three threes, which may be aggressive, but I'm running with that.
09:02Download that app today and use a code CLNS for a deposit match up to a hundred dollars.
09:08Prize Picks.
09:09Pick more, pick less.
09:10It's that easy.
09:12Okay, so does Porzingis play in game five?
09:15Yeah.
09:16Yes.
09:17That's the next thing.
09:19I don't think so.
09:20You don't?
09:21I don't.
09:22You want to wait till six?
09:23You want to wait till seven?
09:25This is a guy who knows he could be done for this series.
09:28This is a guy that's had so many injuries in his career and agents are involved now.
09:36You're looking at your future.
09:37I get it.
09:38It's the NBA finals.
09:39I wonder if Porzingis-
09:41I hope that isn't the case.
09:43I mean, hey, Jeff-
09:44I hope so too, but-
09:46I hope that isn't the case.
09:47I'll be very disappointed.
09:50You have confidence.
09:51You really have confidence that Chris Stapps Porzingis, who you, of all people, when we
09:57got him, when the Celtics got him, what were you saying, Robert Ryan?
10:02What were you saying?
10:03I said he's 7-3 going on 5-3, and that's the way he plays because I was totally in
10:09error.
10:10I had never saw him once last year.
10:12Who watches the Wizards, I said, and certainly didn't see that he had altered his game.
10:17Not even that, the injury-prone factor.
10:20We talked about that ad nauseum too, and now you're coming around and saying, I have faith
10:26that Chris Stapps Porzingis-
10:27I'm happy to get along about it, but-
10:28... of all people is going to be out there.
10:30Well, if he's, assuming he's somewhat healthy, I don't think he'll do something stupid.
10:39He's a rational man, I think, but I'm just saying I'd be surprised if we don't see him.
10:45I think he wants to play game five at home, at the Garden.
10:49They have a chance to clinch.
10:50I think he's going to want to be on the floor.
10:52He wants to be, but he also has told us it's not his call.
10:57Jimmy Butler didn't play, Hal Burton didn't play, Donovan Mitchell didn't play.
11:01They all sat in the playoffs, and Porzingis is tougher than him.
11:06This is it.
11:08Yeah, I get it, but Porzingis, I think this is his shot at a-
11:14First round is one, I mean, the first series is one thing.
11:19The finals, when you're on the verge, I'm just saying, I expect to see him.
11:25Do they need him?
11:26Offer, offensively, is absolutely unknown, but he will be able to take up very useful
11:32space.
11:33I think-
11:34They needed him tonight.
11:35They needed him tonight, Chris.
11:36Very useful space, just being there.
11:39Well, that's the thing.
11:41People will say, well, even if they had Porzingis, they won by 100.
11:45It wouldn't have mattered.
11:46You know what I mean?
11:47No, but it would have mattered because you would have had somebody out there on the defensive
11:52end, number one, that could have protected the rim, okay?
11:56They were doing whatever they wanted.
11:58Second of all, the Celtics had no help for Tatum offensively.
12:01You never know.
12:02Porzingis hits a few shots.
12:04The complete tenor of the game could have changed.
12:07I'm not saying it would have.
12:08It could have changed with Porzingis.
12:11Of course, Jeff, because I think all of us thought, the way the game is played today,
12:16and from what we've seen, every team makes a run.
12:19I mean, I thought the Celtics were still in this thing down 20, down 21.
12:2320 is one thing.
12:2432.
12:2539 is another.
12:26No, you're right.
12:27I did too.
12:28I wasn't giving up at that point.
12:30But if Porzingis is in there, he hits a three, blocks a shot.
12:34People start feeling good.
12:35You get momentum.
12:36But then once it got like 25, once we started to go further and further, it was over.
12:42But it's such a rhythmic game, Porzingis could have made a difference.
12:47I say give Dallas credit.
12:51To get here, they did things no one thought they could do other than themselves.
12:55You know that.
12:56And this is their reward to their fans for everything tonight.
13:00Well, they came out.
13:01I thought Dallas was going to kind of roll over.
13:05I really did.
13:06I didn't think that.
13:07I didn't either.
13:08I just thought the Celtics would very likely meet the challenge, but not necessarily.
13:12I didn't think it was a lot.
13:13Look at two guys with pride.
13:14Like two stars with pride.
13:16Like Luka's not going to lay down.
13:18And Kyrie against the Celtics, he's going to lay down?
13:22No way.
13:23No.
13:24No.
13:25All right.
13:26Well, I don't know.
13:27He didn't show up in the first two games.
13:28We'll see.
13:29But that's what makes getting NBA Finals tickets even faster and easier.
13:32Prices on the Game Time app actually go down the closer it gets to the tip off.
13:37Like right now, I was looking on the app, and it's really easy to use.
13:40Just download the app.
13:42Lots of pictures for our sports fans.
13:44Lots of pictures.
13:45And, you know, the tickets for Celtics Game 1 and whoever they play, between $600, $700.
13:51But the closer you get to actual tip time, it's going to go down.
13:55So you and your friends may do a last minute thing.
13:57And I know it's a lot of money, but maybe it's two, three of your friends.
14:01Last minute trip.
14:02Boom.
14:03Let's go.
14:04Let's see what the tickets are on Game Time.
14:05You never know.
14:06With killer last minute deals, online prices, views from your seat, and their lowest price
14:10guarantee, Game Time takes the guesswork out of buying NBA tickets.

14:33Save even more when you choose a section for the zone deals.

14:41Sounds pretty good to me.
14:42Take the guesswork out of buying NBA finals tickets with Game Time.
14:46Download the Game Time app.
14:47Create an account.
14:48Use code CLNS for $20 off your first purchase.
14:52Terms apply.
14:53Again, create an account and redeem code CLNS for $20 off your first purchase.
15:02Download Game Time today.
15:05Last minute tickets, lowest price guaranteed.
15:08Well, that's the best part of this to me is they get to go back to Boston and what better
15:15way to end the season than for Boston fans to cheer for the Celtics and boo Kyrie out
15:24of the game.
15:25The last time we had this circumstance, it was in a 2-3-2 in 08, but it was 3-2 and we
15:31know they rose to that occasion in a score I will never forget to my grade 132 to 98.
15:38That was a magnificent night.
15:40I'm not predicting we're going to have a reprise of that at all, but these are the kind of
15:48things that are going to happen.
15:49The other thing is just generally carry over in general.
15:51Who knows better than the Boston Celtics about the irrelevance of carry over?
15:56Oh, yeah.
15:57It doesn't matter.
15:58No.
15:59I go back to Memorial Day Massacre in 1985 and we know what happened after that.
16:05So that way they were on the other side.
16:07So anyway, it's embarrassing and I'm not trying to say they should feel good about themselves,
16:13but they should shrug this off.
16:16No, they will.
16:18I wanted to see a sweep tonight.
16:19So just as a fan, I wanted to see it.
16:21Hey, look, but do you think, you know, will Tatum get off the offensive side a little
16:27bit?
16:28I mean, he was their best offensive player tonight, but that's not saying much.
16:31I mean, he did in the first half of game three.
16:34He hit an early three.
16:35I was encouraged.
16:36Yeah, we really haven't seen him click yet.
16:40You know?
16:41I thought he was better.
16:42You know, again, I thought he was fine in the first quarter.
16:44Like he was the only one who, I thought he was fine tonight, but nobody else was with
16:49him.
16:51It was by himself and he's not enough.
16:54Like that's the one thing is you look at it and Luka has the ball in his hands all the
17:01time.
17:02All the time.
17:03I mean, it is amazing like how many dribbles per possession Luka and Kyrie, especially
17:10Luka.
17:11Right.
17:12The ball's not in Luka's hands.
17:13It's in Kyrie and it's dribble, dribble, dribble.
17:16And it's not a pretty watch.
17:19They just don't move the basketball.
17:21Right.
17:22No, and that's their MO.
17:23That's who they are.
17:24That's what the construction of their team is.
17:26Luka, you know, we learned that Kristaps didn't fit in well with Luka.
17:31Okay.
17:32We know that.
17:33I know that was part of it.
17:36You can see why.
17:37Even though Luka has a ton of assists, there are a lot of them are the assists of like
17:43dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble.
17:47Again, it's just like he doesn't advance the ball.
17:50He just doesn't know how to advance the ball quickly ever.
17:54Like I never see him catch the ball.
17:56Rarely.
17:57I mean, tonight at one point he caught it.
17:59He pushed it and then fed it.
18:02That was a wonderful play.
18:04Yup.
18:05And that was a, you know what that was?
18:06That was a Caitlin Clark play.
18:08She's the best I've ever seen either sex making that play on the move to throw the ball to
18:12the rim, throw the ball to a cutter.
18:15That was a wonderful collaboration.
18:16They had a lot of wonderful golden moments tonight.
18:18That was one of them.
18:19And I keep saying about him, by the way, Jeff, he goes wherever he wants to go at his pace
18:25and you know, and nobody can, nobody stops him.
18:28They have great defenders.
18:30I mean, that's the crazy part.
18:32The Celtics are switching everything, right?
18:35They start with Jalen Brown.
18:36They'll switch.
18:37They'll end up with whatever Tatum, White, Drew Holiday.
18:41They're all really good defenders.
18:43And Horford, if he's one-on-one against Luca and it doesn't matter.
18:48Well, he's got the full package.
18:50He can, if he, if he thinks he can take it all the way, he takes all the way.
18:53He's got the step back.
18:55He's got up and unders.
18:56He's got up fakes.
18:57He's got, he's, he's, he's got all the tricks, all the bag tricks in a bag, you know?
19:02And that's why he led the league in scoring folks.
19:05It wasn't an accident.
19:08When you were a kid, right?
19:09I mean, for me, it was two cards back when they had the long NBA cards.
19:17John Havlicek, Dave Cowens.
19:18I mean, I still remember the pictures.
19:20It was Cowens going up for a rebound, I think, over Kareem Abdul-Jabbar when he was with
19:24the Bucs.
19:26So those were my guys.
19:27Those were my cards.
19:28I think I even had a Michael Ray Richardson card.
19:30How's, how's that for a name from the past?
19:33So collecting has come a long way since then, but now there's a new way to buy, sell and
19:36trade in RIP packs.

21:03Do you see, hey, I saw Chandler Parsons, I don't know if you saw this about three weeks
21:08ago.
21:09No.
21:10Said he thinks Luka's better than Bird already.
21:15I'm not asking if he's better already because he's not, obviously, he's not.
21:18No, he's a little different.
21:20But is there, do you see some similarities in their team?
21:23Yeah, but here's the big difference.
21:24No, I reject this because what they have in similar is a variety of shot making, okay?
21:31No question about that.
21:33But it's totally polar opposite.
21:35He has the ball all the time.
21:38He dribbles the ball triple figured times in a game, all right?
21:44Unlike Klay Thompson who took 11 dribbles to score 60 points, okay, whatever it was.
21:48Larry Bird's, among his distinctions, but one of his great distinctions in the history
21:55of this game is that no player has ever accomplished more in terms of assists and making other
22:01people relevant with the ball in his hands infrequently as Larry Bird.
22:08Larry Bird got it done with hardly ever having the ball.
22:11He was two steps ahead in his mind about where the pass was going to go.
22:16He wasn't a dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, and I'm not knocking Luka, Luka does what
22:21Luka needs to do.
22:22They're just different.
22:23Good.
22:24The similarity, I guess.
22:26No one ever got more done without the ball, with the ball briefly in his hands than Larry
22:32Bird.
22:33No one.
22:34The similarity, I guess, is number one.
22:36Shot making.
22:37And they're both average athletic white dudes.
22:41Yeah, color of skin, believe me.
22:44And they're both, they can't really jump.
22:46Neither one of them jump very, very high.
22:48Larry's big thing was Larry had a quick takeoff.
22:52Larry got to his apex quickly.
22:54He didn't have to gather.
22:55And he had the instinct of rebound and timing and all that.
22:58So that made him, he was still able to, and he had, one thing no one ever talks about,
23:02he had very strong hands.
23:05Strong hands.
23:06And so anyway, so I reject the comparison.
23:09The only comparison is A, they're both white, and B, they both have a variety of shot making.
23:16But after that, they're very different players.
23:18All right, guys.
23:19Great job.
23:20We'll talk again next week, and I'm not gonna say anything, I'm not jinxing anything.
23:27Shut the book on this one.
23:28Don't even show him the tape, Joe.
23:30Don't even show him the tape.
23:31Nah, he probably won't.
23:32Okay, guys.
23:33All right.
