Two Sydney police officers have been charged with assaulting a 92-year-old man while attending a home in the city's southwest in January. The man who has dementia was later admitted to hospital with a broken elbow and injuries to his arms and head following his arrest.

00:06O calls were made by an elderly woman living in a southwestern Sydney home with her elderly
00:11husband.
00:13When the two officers arrived at the Picton home on January 21, just before 9pm, they
00:18activated their body-worn cameras.
00:20They then arrested the 92-year-old man at the home, putting him in handcuffs and during
00:25that arrest, it's alleged the man was seriously injured.
00:29He was taken to hospital with a fracture to his right elbow and significant bruising
00:33to his head and arms.
00:35Following an internal police investigation, two officers, a male senior constable and
00:39a male constable, were charged yesterday with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, while
00:44the constable is also facing another charge of assault.
00:48Commissioner Karen Webb held a press conference a short time ago where she said she had watched
00:53that body cam vision this morning, but would not go into detail about what she saw.
00:58Whilst I have my own thoughts and feelings about that, I can't comment about that because
01:03I don't want to prejudice any court matter.
01:06These matters are now before the court and there will be a subsequent, parallel employment
01:14review that will be undertaken.
01:16Both officers have been suspended from duty with pay and will face court in the coming
01:21weeks.
