A 30-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a female police officer with a sword in Port Augusta this morning. The officer was airlifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

00:00Two police officers were called to a house in High Street in Port Augusta just after
00:0710.30 this morning after reports of a domestic dispute.
00:10When the two officers arrived, they were confronted by a man who struck a female police officer
00:15in her left arm with a sword.
00:18Capsicum spray was used to subdue the 30 year old while emergency services were called to
00:22the scene.
00:23The officer was initially taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment but was
00:28later airlifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
00:33The Port Augusta man has been arrested and is expected to be charged with multiple offences
00:38including assaulting a prescribed emergency worker.
00:42South Australia's Police Commissioner Grant Stephens said while any attack on a police
00:46officer is abhorrent, the violent nature of this alleged incident had shocked police and
00:51they were now doing all they could to support the female police officer and her family.
