A woman is in hospital with serious wounds after allegedly being stabbed in Sydney's eastern suburbs. A man has been charged with the attack, after residents and workers at the scene made a dramatic citizen's arrest.

00:00 The street here in Randook is a lot quieter than was yesterday afternoon.
00:06 At about 4.30 witnesses say it was horrific to see a woman in her 40s with stab wounds
00:11 to the head not far from here.
00:13 More so to see a man being chased by others down this street here.
00:18 Mechanic Nick Bordeaux from across the road witnessed that.
00:22 He filmed it on his phone and then later called 000 and participated in a citizen's arrest
00:27 of the man that they were chasing.

00:32 I went up the road, I followed where they came from, I knew the direction and then I
00:36 saw a lot of people, the neighbours up on Roberts Avenue on the corner there.
00:40 There was blood everywhere and I'm like oh wow, this is not good and she was screaming.
00:44 I said look she's alive and she's screaming but there's blood everywhere.
00:50 The victim remains in St Vincent's Hospital where she's in a serious but stable condition
00:56 and the 21-year-old man was refused bail and he will face Waverley Local Court today.
