Technical and vocational education and training (TVET) is open to all regardless of academic qualifications, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Deputy Prime Minister told a press conference at the Kuala Langat Industrial Training Institute on Friday (June 7) that possessing 3M skills (reading, writing and counting) was sufficient if intending to enrol for TVET courses.

Ahmad Zahid, who is the National TVET Council chairman, said it was only right for Malaysia to follow in the footsteps of developed countries such as Japan where TVET was the first choice for school leavers.

03:08They can apply for jobs in Tibet.
03:11There is a chance for them to go to college and university in Tibet.
03:16There are five universities in our country.
03:21There are universities in KL, Technical University of Melaka,
03:25University of Tunusian, University of Pahang, and University of Perlis.
03:31They can choose to go to college through Giat Mara, IKM, Polytechnic,
03:43or the Polytechnic Committee.
03:45There is a wide range of opportunities for them to go to university.
03:50Or if they want to work first after SKM 1 and 2,
03:55they can continue to work or study while working.
04:05There are courses that are suitable for the flexibility of their time.
04:13How about the 10,000 students who do not have STM?
04:17Is there a chance for them to continue their studies?
04:20We provide them with 3M skills.
04:23Reading, writing, and calculating.
04:26I think everyone has at least those skills.
04:30We provide them with these skills so that they can be guaranteed in the future.
