Vaughan Gething has had a tumultuous time as first minister, from the 200 thousand pound donation, to sacking a minister for leaking information and refusing to release the proof, and allegedly knowingly deleting WhatsApp messages relating to the pandemic. This has all caught up with him, and on Wednesday night, lost a vote of no confidence.

00:00I will continue to put Wales first. First in thought, deed and ambition as I serve and lead my country.
00:12Vaughan Gething certainly has been up against it for weeks and to hear various Senate members from across the opposition point out the reasons that they lacked confidence in his leadership would have been difficult for someone with such hope when he was elected.
00:24We on these benches are acting in what we firmly believe is the interests of the people of Wales. They, I have no doubt, have lost confidence in our First Minister as have we.
00:37That said, I cannot stress how disappointed I am to say the golden opportunity that you were given was completely wasted.
00:46He did have the full support of his party though and only lost because two of his party were off sick but some have claimed the pair, both with different qualms with Gething, would have supported their leader if they were in.
00:56A government collectively led by the first black leader of any nation in Europe and if that government falls then so might this parliament.
01:07To bring down a leader to whom we never gave a chance, this motion may try and damage him today but in supporting it we damage ourselves.
01:19What it all means going forward is difficult to predict. It will certainly affect the Labour Party across the UK with an easy target on their head now for the Tories and other parties in the general election.
01:28Gething has said he will continue in his role, saying the whole vote was nothing but party politics and basically just for show.
01:35This does mean he will find certain things difficult though, possibly finding more pushback than before on new plans but the fact his party fully supported him and seemingly will continue to support him for the time being at least will give him hope that the Welsh government can continue with their plans.
01:50How this all goes in the future is anyone's guess. All we know is that he will be there for the time being but after the general election, nothing is guaranteed.
