00:00I'm Bart Lucas, MBA, Bruce Chairman of Inverness Branch Royal British Legion.
00:07We are here today to remember and say thanks to the people who gave their lives on the Normandy landings exactly 80 years ago today.
00:17And also for the families of those people who gave their lives and to the ones who did survive and may be severely injured and are still carrying the pains of war.
00:30Today is personally important to me, although my father was not on active service, he was involved as one of the support teams so to speak.
00:49He worked in the naval dockyard in Portsmouth where a lot of the ships came from that were involved in taking the troops across towards France.
00:58The first one is, first known as an MBA, who was awarded King's Birthday Honours a year ago, almost today.
01:08For a member of the Army Credit Force and I've been for 47 years, holding various appointments within it.
01:18It was presented by Princess Anne in January this year, personally to me.
01:24The second one is for active service, for involvement, I was out in South Arabia in 1967 in the Air Force, where I was a clerk in the Army Regiment Squadron which was regarding the airfield we were on.
01:39I've got the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal, the Diamond and the Platinum one.
01:47The next one is the Police Storm Service, I was a policeman for 30 years after I came out of the Air Force.
01:52And the last one is the Cadets Medal, with ours showing the length of service I've served in the Army Credit Force.
