00:01 The Investment Trade and Industry Ministry has clarified that Geotronics Sundaran Berhad

00:05 does not operate as a semiconductor manufacturer in Malaysia.

00:09 Instead, it said the company functions as a trading company engaged in the wholesale

00:13 trading of semiconductor products and fabrication services.

00:17 The Ministry also said that Malaysia enforces strategic trade management through the Strategic

00:22 Trade Act 2010, regulating the export, transit, transshipment and brokering of strategic items,

00:27 especially those with potential military applications.

00:31 Based on records, it said Geotronics is not a registered company under STA 2010 and has

00:35 not applied for export permits.

00:37 This comes after Second Finance Minister Amir Hamzah Azizan said he was made to understand

00:42 that the Malaysian company was not a semiconductor producer, but a trading company that sells

00:46 semiconductor-related hardware.

00:49 It was previously reported that the US had imposed sanctions on Geotronics for allegedly

00:52 supplying crucial electronic components to Russia's military.

00:56 However, MITI said the US Treasury Department's action against Geotronics was part of broader

01:01 sanctions related to the Ukraine-Russian conflict, targeting entities from various countries.
