00:00 seven on seven event that Booker T Washington came out victorious.
00:03 And I want to talk to you about what one of their standout players, Blue, because
00:06 four star cornerback Ben Hanks Jr. It's actually a Florida Gators legacy, but Miami had a lot of
00:12 traction in this young man's recruitment for star corner out of Booker T six foot one hundred
00:19 seventy pounds. He was one of the standout guys out there on Sunday. Blue, what did you see from
00:24 Ben Hanks? Yeah, I've been watching him since he was in eighth grade and he attended the Rall Academy
00:30 and then transferred over to Booker T, you know, who doesn't have an eighth grade. So and obviously
00:35 his dad is a huge influence in the Overtown area, has been for years and years, went to Miami High
00:42 and as you mentioned, went to University of Florida. One of the guys at Steve's Burrier,
00:47 who had his jersey retired, actually gave it to Ben Hanks so he could wear it. So that's pretty
00:53 prestigious. And yeah, he's a big time kid, you know, and the quote one of the coaches at Miami,
00:59 he's the type of guy you win big time games and championships with. He is he's a long guy. He's
01:06 taught, you know, obviously he's going to get bigger and stronger and get in the weight room
01:10 a lot more. You know, his nutrition will amp up when he gets the next level. You know, he's going
01:16 to put on 25 pounds, maybe close out to 190 195. You know, when he by the time he gets out. But
01:23 yeah, he he is a type of guy. He's got great, you know, he's got great coordination. He flocks to
01:32 the ball real quick. He's long. You know, he's just when you have him beat, he's going to stick
01:37 that big arm long arm in there and break up a pass. And yeah, he's he's quality kid from the
01:44 beginning. You know, he's got speed. He's got, you know, runs a little bit of track, but he's
01:48 also got a great, great knowledge of the game, you know, being around his dad and his dad, you know,
01:54 and you know, as well as I do, you know, when you're a son of a football coach, you know,
01:59 just by osmosis, you you know, you learn more and more from watching film from dad saying on the
02:05 way home from youth football games, hey, listen, when you do this, you need to be there. So yeah,
02:10 he's and he's a great young man too. And a sought after player blue. So he had,
02:15 well, when he competed in that event on Sunday at Miami, he had just flown back down from Louisville
02:20 where he had an official visit with the Cardinals that started May 31st. So up next for him, he's
02:26 got a visit to Florida on June 7th. He's visiting Georgia on June 14th, visiting Florida on June
02:33 18th. And then he's got his official visit. He'll be back in Coral Gables on June 21st.
02:38 That's that's a murderer's row blue of competition teams that Miami's competing with for Ben Hanks.
02:44 Do you think the hurricanes are in a good spot for him though?
02:46 I do, you know, just being a hometown guy, you know, I mean, and, and there's a lot to say for
02:52 legacies, Maurice crumb, his kid went to Notre Dame and, you know, you look down the line,
02:57 a lot of these kids, you know, whose sons, you know, obviously they're coming up on a big legacy
03:03 Vernon, averted 26 class and tie wise is arguably the best center in the country. I don't care what
03:11 it is at six, four, 295 pounds. So you kind of want to like to, you know, try to keep those kids
03:20 close, you know, close to home, but then being local you know, 20 minutes from, from the university
03:27 of Miami campus where he lives. And you know, a lot of people that he knows down here and his mom
03:32 and dad get it, not, and that family can get an opportunity, you know, to, to drive the 20 minutes
03:38 rather than have to go to wherever Gainesville or, you know, Georgia. I think that's going to play a
03:45 big part in, in the fact that Miami, you know, their secondary coach is really, really good.
03:50 Got a chance to talk with him yesterday. And I think he's good. And those are the type of things
03:55 that get you. And especially because where Miami's climbing to a lot of these kids want to be a board,
04:00 you know, on that, on that train, as it pulls out of the station. So I think they got a really,
04:04 really good shot with them, but they got to be diligent and they got to understand that,
04:09 like you said, he, you know, wherever he's going to some places, you know, he's going to go to
04:14 Georgia. He's going to go to Florida, especially Florida, who will roll out the, the welcome mat
04:19 with them. And, you know, his dad being, you know, a pretty good player there back in the day. So
04:25 we'll see, you know, I think from the standpoint of what Miami offers and what he offers to Miami
04:30 is a great fit.
