00:00 (upbeat music)
00:02 Hello Vogue, I am Nicola Coughlin.
00:05 I'm gonna tell you my beauty secrets
00:07 and some deep, dark secrets.
00:09 So we're all gonna be in like a secret club together
00:10 and we're gonna get like matching sweaters
00:13 and it's gonna be really chic.
00:14 I got a little pimple patch on.
00:15 It's not super bad.
00:16 I got these pimple patches in France in a pharmacy.
00:20 I'm gonna try and take this off now.
00:21 The thing is, they do like well to your skin.
00:24 And then, okay, we're not so bad.
00:25 We're not so bad.
00:26 First thing I'm gonna do is I'm gonna use my new face.
00:29 I've scratched my face already.
00:30 Oh my God.
00:31 If you do it, it like lifts your cheekbones.
00:36 (gasps)
00:37 Look at that.
00:38 This is the side of my face that I sleep on
00:40 and you can really tell.
00:41 I met a friend recently at the pub
00:42 and she was like, "I'm a back sleeper."
00:44 And I was like, "Okay, isn't that good?"
00:46 And she was like, "No, 'cause I went to a facialist.
00:48 "You know, all your skin is,
00:49 "everything's going to the back."
00:50 And I'm like, "Oh my God, can women live?"
00:52 But it does make a difference.
00:55 Like there's some, I was watching "Backs and Bridges"
00:56 and I was like, I can tell I really went ham on it that day.
00:59 I really went ham.
01:00 I was like, the cheekbones are cheekboning.
01:02 We're good, we're good.
01:03 I used to work in Lush Cosmetics
01:06 when I was like 19 years old.
01:08 All right, so I'm gonna use some serum next.
01:11 I have really, really thirsty skin.
01:12 And my boss was like, "You need to start using eye cream
01:14 "and you need to start moisturizing your neck."
01:17 And I was like, "Okay, girl."
01:18 And I started it then,
01:20 but I was like an anomaly amongst my friends
01:22 that I did that.
01:24 I'm just gonna put on a little eye cream
01:25 because my boss, she was right.
01:27 You gotta use it.
01:28 And also they told me that I should only put it on
01:30 with my ring finger.
01:31 I'm gonna use, this is so good under makeup,
01:35 the Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream.
01:36 You know, I had spots as a teenager.
01:37 I had back knee really bad.
01:39 I remember being so fricking painful.
01:42 But I also grew up in Galway in the West of Ireland
01:45 and it is so rainy there.
01:47 Like we never see sunlight.
01:48 People think I'm kidding when I say that,
01:49 but I do think that had a huge, huge effect on,
01:52 you know, my skin, you know, staying relatively healthy.
01:55 I think I got this in like,
01:57 what in Ireland we'd call pennies.
01:59 Just like a cheap old ice roller.
02:01 I'm doing a lot of traveling at the moment.
02:03 So, you know, you get really puffy on flights
02:06 and early mornings.
02:08 These are like a complete godsend.
02:09 I always have them in my freezer at home.
02:11 If I'm like having a makeup artist do my makeup,
02:14 I'll wear like an under eye mask.
02:17 'Cause you know, you feel like that's puffy.
02:19 Do you know one big thing that is part of my beauty routine
02:21 that I did actually before I came here
02:22 is I plucked my one long chin hair.
02:24 And I feel like unless you have one of those,
02:26 are you, you know, have you come into your womanhood?
02:29 Putting on some SPF.
02:32 Just thinking about Rihanna.
02:33 It's a Fenty.
02:34 I just love Rihanna so much.
02:36 It's like, would I ever want to meet her?
02:38 I don't know because like, what if she didn't like me?
02:40 Like that would, that would gut me.
02:42 If I actually had Rihanna watch Bridgerton,
02:43 that would be insane.
02:44 I think people are sometimes surprised
02:46 that I am like an old crone.
02:47 Like, it's quite nice.
02:49 Being broke in my twenties was one of the greatest things
02:52 for my skin 'cause my friends were going on sun holidays
02:54 and I was like, I'm going on zero holidays
02:56 'cause I have that no money.
02:57 But yeah, it is not worth the suntan, it's not.
03:00 I'm gonna do some makeup now.
03:01 Gonna start with a little concealer.
03:02 It's funny 'cause I look back on pictures of myself
03:04 as a kid and I have dark circles then.
03:06 This is really nice on flights 'cause I feel like flights,
03:10 you just feel so gross when you get off them.
03:13 I love this foundation by the way.
03:21 The glam process for Penn in Bridgerton
03:24 has changed so much over the years.
03:25 In the first season, it was really, you know,
03:27 a lot about the hair and the late great Mark Pilcher
03:30 design that season and he said to me,
03:32 you know, the notes we have for Penn is dowdy.
03:34 And I was like, love that for myself, okay.
03:36 I remember at the beginning, they did some like makeup tests
03:38 where the curls were a lot softer, it was more romantic,
03:41 but they were like, no, let's fuck her up a bit.
03:43 But I was game, it's fine.
03:45 You gotta, you gotta commit to the bit,
03:46 you know what I mean?
03:47 It's like, if Penn looked really glam and amazing
03:50 from season one, it's like, where's the journey in that?
03:53 Where's the excitement?
03:53 And she also needs to feel like she's not ready
03:56 to join society.
03:58 Then in season two, it was like they, you know,
04:00 we took her a little bit more grown up, but not too much.
04:03 And then the final ball of the season,
04:06 Jenny, who did my makeup and hair for season two,
04:08 she was like, I think it needs to be like a huge,
04:11 a huge bun.
04:12 And I was like, is it?
04:14 And that thing was so heavy.
04:16 And that's the scene in which Carla was like,
04:18 I would never quit Pilate.
04:19 And I'm like, is it 'cause of my huge bun?
04:22 But then in season three, it was exciting.
04:23 I felt like I had my pretty woman moment.
04:25 It's so wild being part of Bridgerton,
04:27 'cause I can't express enough how in season one,
04:30 we didn't know what the show was.
04:32 And then the way it blew up was like so insane.
04:35 I'm gonna do really lazy girl.
04:36 It's gonna be just like one shade over the lid.
04:40 This is like a really handy, like Charlotte Tilbury travel.
04:43 She's well, she's well loved.
04:44 I'm just gonna use my finger.
04:46 (upbeat music)
04:49 I still love, is this not cool anymore?
04:51 I'm still gonna do it, I don't care.
04:52 Like a little like light bit in the corner.
04:54 The first Vogue event I ever went to, right?
04:56 They were like, Anna Wintour's gonna be there.
04:58 And I was like, oh my God, this is so fancy.
04:59 My publicist was like, you're gonna have to do your makeup
05:01 like from on your own from set.
05:02 And I was like, it's fine.
05:03 Like, I feel like I can do an okay job.
05:05 It's never a good time to be like,
05:06 I should do something I've never done before
05:08 in my entire life.
05:09 And I took my highlighter, this one is discontinued.
05:11 I'm sorry, you're gonna hate me for that,
05:12 but I did just really, really good.
05:14 I took it and I just swiped it across my forehead here.
05:16 I was looking in the mirror, I think I lost my mind.
05:18 And I was like, no, I've never seen anyone do that anywhere.
05:22 So sometimes, you know, you can lose your mind
05:24 and that's fine.
05:25 Did Anna like it?
05:26 Did she like my shiny forehead?
05:27 I actually did not meet her that night.
05:29 I didn't meet her until the Met in 22, I think I went.
05:32 She said, who designed your dress?
05:33 And I said, Richard Quinn.
05:34 And she said, well, it works.
05:35 And I was like, thank you, I'll take it.
05:38 I'm gonna do a little eyebrow pencil.
05:42 Do you love all the fingerprints on this?
05:44 Are you obsessed?
05:45 The glow-ups in Bridgerton,
05:48 I think like it's that popping fricking highlight.
05:51 And Jessie Dior, who did my makeup this season,
05:54 like she would make my skin glow in a way
05:55 that I can never do.
05:57 I can never, like I was seeing myself in some promos.
05:59 I was like, is that what my skin looks like?
06:01 The answer is not really, it's makeup.
06:02 But I was like, oh my God.
06:04 Everyone is damn glowy.
06:06 My sister came to visit set, she was like,
06:08 everyone is so attractive.
06:09 I was like, I know, it's an attractive group of people.
06:12 I do love a boy brow moment.
06:13 I'm gonna put on more concealer, I think.
06:18 I wanted to act, I was like so sure about it
06:21 when I was so, so young.
06:22 It's weird that I was so sure of it,
06:24 you know, at such a young age, but I just was.
06:26 I got my first like good TV job at 30 with Derry Girls.
06:30 So like, it just doesn't matter.
06:32 Generations are different.
06:33 I feel like, you know, we're different to the boomers
06:36 and different to Gen X and leave millennials alone.
06:39 We're trying our best.
06:39 We're not even like a mean generation.
06:41 We're just like nice.
06:42 Although I saw on the internet the other day,
06:43 someone said about me, they're like,
06:45 she's so Gen Z coded.
06:46 I was like, for real?
06:49 Do I have a drag ult for you girl?
06:50 Yes, I do.
06:51 Does she have an incredible name?
06:52 If she does, thank you for asking.
06:53 Her name is Kylie Jenner.
06:55 Kylie Jenner, so I envisioned her as Kylie Jenner,
06:59 King Kylie era, the blue hair,
07:02 then mixed with like Clark Gable,
07:04 like gender bender, like pencil mustache.
07:07 I adore drag culture.
07:09 I used to go to like the tiny, tiny clubs in London
07:13 to see some of like the rude girls, like adore and jinx.
07:17 And I just love them so much.
07:19 And I think, I don't know,
07:20 I just connected to it in like a really, really deep way.
07:23 When I was working in an opticians in Galway,
07:25 I'd save money and go up on the bus to Dublin
07:27 and go to the George like by myself and watch the girls.
07:31 I love this by the way, Charlotte Tilbury, Glowgasm.
07:34 'Cause it's like a highlighter and a blush in one.
07:36 And it just makes you look like really fresh and glowy.
07:38 And I just love that.
07:39 I really love watching red carpets
07:43 and I love people like taking chances with looks.
07:46 My current massive girl crush is Taylor Russell.
07:49 I just think she is the prettiest, prettiest lady.
07:52 Of course, Zendaya, how could I not mention Zendaya?
07:56 I once met Law Roach at a fashion show
08:00 and he was like, "Z, and I loved your look."
08:02 And I was like, "Oh my God."
08:03 I'm very obsessed with mascara.
08:06 I put on too much.
08:07 I'm gonna do a little lip liner.
08:12 Julia Quinn, who wrote "Bridgerton,"
08:16 I remember saying to her like,
08:18 "Is her name Penn?"
08:19 Because she's like a writer.
08:20 And she was like, "No, I didn't think about that."
08:22 So like our couple name is Pollen.
08:24 I have often thought,
08:25 is it to do with like the bees and the hole in the thing?
08:28 And just judging by what she said,
08:31 they're like, "No, that's not."
08:33 So I think it's just like a really like wonderful
08:36 coincidence, happy accident type thing.
08:39 Honestly, the best way of getting ready for this season
08:42 and like the amount of work it was gonna be
08:43 and all of that stuff
08:45 was literally just to like give it my all.
08:47 And it sounds like cheesy and silly,
08:49 but like, honestly, I was like, commit to the bit.
08:53 Like you got one chance to lead a show like this.
08:56 It's such a big show and it means so much
08:58 to like so many people.
08:59 I was like, don't look back
09:00 and wish you'd committed harder or done more.
09:02 Like just give it everything.
09:05 Okay, this, I love this.
09:06 This is a brush from a girl.
09:08 It's a really small business in Ireland.
09:09 It's called the Belle brush.
09:10 And it's so nice and it's really soft.
09:12 I know I look like a scurly through and through.
09:15 Just put like a little bit of the oil in it.
09:18 Not a lot, 'cause it's fine.
09:19 There's a line from "Bridgerton"
09:23 just coincidentally where Colin Bridgerton's like,
09:26 "Don't live for the estimation of others, it's a trap."
09:28 But it's actually very true because it's like,
09:31 you can't, when I first started like doing
09:33 red carpet events and things like that,
09:35 I was just very much like,
09:36 "Oh, I'm just gonna look terrible anyway."
09:38 You look back at the pictures, you don't feel good.
09:40 You don't like feel like yourself.
09:42 You don't like, why are you doing that?
09:43 It's dumb.
09:44 And then if like truly, if I feel good in an outfit
09:47 and a look and people can be like, "I hate it."
09:50 I'm like, "Okay, don't wear it."
09:52 If you feel good in something, you feel happy,
09:54 just like, just go with that.
09:55 I think the lips are slightly more matte than I wanted.
09:59 So I'm gonna put on a little bit of my Tatcha lip mask.
10:02 This, I sleep in.
10:03 That's nicer.
10:08 Yeah, okay, this is the final glam.
10:10 I think she's pretty, she's pretty okay.
10:12 I think I'm ready for dinner with my friends.
10:13 I'm gonna go eat some New York pizza.
10:15 Okay, love you, bye.
10:16 (blows kiss)
10:19 [BLANK_AUDIO]
