Huskies defensive line coach Jason Kaufusi shares his thoughts on the position group early in spring camp.

00:07 >> Everything's just for whether it's him or everybody else.

00:09 I mean, we're just kind of going through, see what everybody can bring to the table

00:12 and then kind of go from there.

00:13 >> What's kind of what you look for in it?

00:15 Cuz obviously you coach the defensive inside and outside line.

00:18 What are you kind of looking for in some of the guys?

00:20 Obviously you know some of them coming from Arizona, but

00:22 just kind of what's been your message to that group this spring?

00:24 >> The biggest one is just effort.

00:26 I mean, we're gonna hang our hat on running to the ball.

00:27 So whether it's an individual drills or team segments, just give me an effort.

00:31 >> Coach, I just said Arizona, is there a big difference coaching edges to D line?

00:37 >> No.

00:37 >> Have you figured out where Voight is gonna play?

00:41 >> No, not yet.

00:42 Not yet. I'm just waiting to see, like I said,

00:45 just trying to get a good evaluation on what everybody brings to the table.

00:48 And then try to find a place for them to help us.

00:52 >> What do you think about him?

00:53 He's kind of in between, but he can play both.

00:55 >> Yeah, he's, in terms of his leadership and stuff like that.

00:58 I mean, you love him.

00:59 He's kind of the locker room enforcer.

01:01 I believe that a lot of the boys look up to him.

01:04 As far as skill sets on the football field, he's played a lot of football here.

01:08 So just trying to help him out,

01:10 what's gonna be the best position we're at on the field to help us.

01:13 >> How do you evaluate Zach Durfee given he didn't really get a chance to play

01:15 last season, but I would imagine he's gonna play a somewhat significant role.

01:19 >> Yeah, he's the same, whether it's Valdez, Durfee.

01:22 I mean, I put them all the same.

01:23 Just, hey, let's see what everybody can bring to the table.

01:25 And we're five practices in, I think I start to get a really good idea.

01:29 And then go back, watch practice, and try to see, hey,

01:32 I believe he's gonna be a first teamer or he's gonna be in the second role or

01:36 whatever it may be, so.
