00:00 G'day guys, it's Friday, fun day in the Laura Mercury Sport Department.
00:04 Not so fun in the wash up if you're a Dragons fan,
00:06 and certainly if you're Shane Flanagan.
00:08 I took in that game last night against the Bulldogs.
00:11 Obviously went into that game with the full 17 available for the first time this year, Rabs.
00:16 And ended up with 15 by half time.
00:19 Jack Bird, Hami Saleh, we're going to try to get some updates on that today.
00:23 Jack Bird just had some horrific luck on the injury front.
00:27 Coming in a bit of a bad time, probably about to lose Ben Hunt,
00:30 possibly Jaden Sewer to Origen as well.
00:33 So it looks like this block that the Dragons were going to use is a bit of a building block.
00:37 In this Origen period is going to be a bit of a testing one,
00:40 but that's all in the wait and see phase.
00:42 We'll bring you all the news there as it comes to hand.
00:45 But we're headed into the weekend, Rabs.
00:47 Round ball time, where are you headed?
00:48 Yeah, finally we actually get a full round of football.
00:50 Well, I hope we do after all that wet weather.
00:52 But yeah, I'll be at the Illawarra Premier League on Saturday.
00:55 Top of the table clash, it'll be Albion Park against Coniston at Terrier Reserve.
00:59 So that should be a massive game.
01:00 If that wasn't the top of the table clash,
01:02 I reckon another game would have been the highlight game,
01:04 Wollongong United against Wollongong Olympic.
01:06 That's always a massive clash.
01:07 Of course, it was the 2022 Illawarra Premier League Grand Final.
01:11 So look out for that one on Saturday at Macedonia Park.
01:13 Of course, the Wolves as well, they'll be at home at Wynn Stadium on Sunday.
01:17 They're playing Marconi and the Stingrays as well at home at Macedonia Park.
01:21 They're playing Sydney Olympic.
01:22 But yeah, so there's plenty happening in the round ball game, Jeno.
01:24 What about the rugby league?
01:25 Yeah, well, I'm headed out there.
01:26 It's been great.
01:27 Like we said, we can finally have some action, a few washouts,
01:30 a weekend off last week for the City-Country clash.
01:32 And that's probably hurt De La Salle more than anybody.
01:36 They're 2-0 this year, but they haven't set foot on the field in May as yet with the washouts.
01:41 They're two games in the hole schedule-wise.
01:44 So desperate to get on the path, they head to Dapto Showground on Saturday.
01:47 Dapto have been far better than a winless record reflects.
01:51 They've been gutsy, but they're still trying to break their duck for 2024.
01:54 So that'll be a big game there as well.
01:56 And in Group 7, well, games don't come any bigger.
01:58 It is Gerringong versus Shell Harbour at Gerringong.
02:01 Both sides undefeated, heading into a big game.
02:03 We know anyone, whether you're a casual rugby league fan or you're obsessed with it like we are,
02:08 in this part of the world, that's always a big game.
02:11 The other interesting one for me is Warrilla.
02:13 Obviously haven't had a loss this year either.
02:15 Got Naira Bomadiri, who are always a real curveball for those top sides,
02:19 at Cess Glenholmes Oval on Sunday.
02:21 They're looking to stay unbeaten and make their run towards those other two big guns.
02:25 A bit of a rejuvenated powerhouse.
02:26 So very much looking forward to all the action.
02:28 But wherever you look, there's action all over Illawarra.
02:30 Thank God the rain is gone. Get out there, take some in.
02:32 And of course, your one-stop shop for all the news, views, analysis,
02:35 and everything that matters is the Illawarra Mercury Sport Department.
02:38 Go online, find us. We'll see you out there on the weekend.
