00:00 G'day Illawarra sports fans, Illawarra Mercury sports journalist here Jordan Warren joined
00:04 by my colleague Agron Latifi. There was plenty happening in Illawarra sport over the weekend.
00:09 Agron, let's start with group seven.
00:10 Yeah, it was a great local derby between the Sharks and Shalhoub Sharks and Albion Park
00:15 at Desking Oval. Albion Park tried hard, they're a much better team this year, they've won
00:21 two out of three games but the Sharks were just a bit too strong on the day and they
00:26 did it all for man down for ten minutes late on. They ran out 24-4 winners and now they've
00:32 won three in a row along with the Premier's Gerringong and revitalised Warrilla. They're
00:38 the only team to win three in a row at the moment.
00:40 Yeah, good start for those three sides in group seven. Of course in the Illawarra league
00:44 Thrual got their premiership defence after a couple of lame weeks off to a good start.
00:49 They had a good win over Collies and then of course there was Illawarra rugby action
00:52 which Agron you were all over on Saturday.
00:54 Yeah, I was at the Vikings v Tech Waratahs game. Vikings obviously they missed last season,
01:01 they're back this year, in first grade that is. They still haven't got a win but they
01:07 tried hard against Tech but the Waratahs ran out of winners.
01:11 Can anyone beat Shalhouban this year in Illawarra rugby?
01:13 That's the million dollar question. At this stage I think Climber looked best placed.
01:18 They had a really good win against Campbelltown, 33-25. Campbelltown another good side. I think
01:26 Shalhouban and Kyama and Campbelltown are probably the best teams but Shalhouban are
01:32 far and away the better side.
01:34 Yeah, very good but we'll wait and see in the Illawarra rugby season. Of course in the
01:37 local football, unfortunately for Wolves and Stingrays, they went down to Rockdale and
01:41 Arpia respectively away from home on Sunday. In the Illawarra Premier League, I should
01:45 say in the men's game, Wollongong United had a good win against Port Kembla, 2-1 at Wetherall
01:50 Park. In the Illawarra Women's Premier League there was a massively exciting game, a 4-3
01:54 game between Winoona and Thoreau in that league. So yeah, that league is as close as ever.
01:59 But we're all over all the action on the weekend and will be for the remainder of the winter
02:03 season. So head to illawarramercury.com.au for all the latest sporting updates.
