Newton Abbot Election Reaction 23 May 24

The people of Newton Abbot react to the news of a General Election and talk about the biggest local issues that politicians should focus on.

00:00 I think it's about time people have been asking for it for a long time.

00:06 A lot of people are not happy about it. Not really that bothered because whoever gets

00:10 in is going to do the complete opposite to what they say.

00:14 It was coming, I think we all had the idea that it was going to come up.

00:17 I've never seen this country in such a sorry state.

00:21 Yeah, it is. It's scary.

00:23 Everybody's suffering and it's not done anything to support the normal working class people.

00:29 The NHS, definitely. And then things like the roads and potholes.

00:38 And community, community projects. I volunteer for a food bank and I think things like that,

00:45 the small charities and things like that that tackle poverty.

00:49 To be focusing on getting the wards sorted. The NHS, the doctors.

00:54 Looking after the people who are lying around in the streets and all that sort of thing.

00:59 The water.

01:02 Southwest water.

01:04 Generally I think we should think about the people. Absolutely.

01:08 They're first and foremost what they need and what they want.

01:11 Affordable housing. Housing. And jobs.

01:18 And not make all the promises that they do make and then they just don't come through with them.

01:24 And Newton Abbott. I mean what's with all this modern stuff?

01:29 I want the old town back. You know, we all liked it the way it was.

01:33 They've spent so much money on...

01:37 Things that don't matter.

01:39 Yeah, and there are people that are really suffering. I mean really suffering.

01:44 They've even put a meal on the table for their children, you know. And the elderly.

01:51 As I say, I'm not deeply into politics. That's just my view.
