00:00The early voters on this election day are now milling in to cast their
00:05votes in what so far is a remarkably relaxed atmosphere given the high
00:10stakes nature of this election. Voting polling stations are open across the UK
00:16nationwide. We're here at one such polling station in central London amidst
00:21the theatre district of the capital city based within a 17th century church that
00:26is known as the Church of Actors. Now of course taking centre stage in this
00:30election today will be the British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, the leader of the
00:36centre-right ruling Conservative Party. Both Sunak and the Conservative Party
00:41are asking the British voters for five more years in power. Their main challenge
00:46comes from the main opposition centre-left Labour Party led by Sir Keir
00:50Starmer, a 61 year old human rights lawyer. This is a significant election in
00:56the United Kingdom. It is the first general election here since the Covid
01:00pandemic and since the war in Ukraine and a high voter turnout is expected.
01:05There are big issues at stake now because of British broadcasting
01:10regulations we're unable to report on those issues until voting closes at 10
01:14o'clock local time later today. When that happens we'll have all the latest
01:19information on the exit polls and the early results as they come through early
01:24on Friday morning.
