2024 general election - brief pictorial summary of campaign and details of polling day
Transcript
00:00It's nearly time to decide. Rishi Sunak announced the general election, standing in the pouring
00:06rain outside No. 10, and named the date as Thursday, July 4. In the six weeks since then,
00:13politicians have been going around the country campaigning, launching manifestos, going on
00:20roller coaster rides, patting dogs, meeting penguins, admiring a giant haggis, buying
00:28ice cream at Portobello – that was a popular one – helping out in the supermarket, driving
00:35tractors, launching battle buses, taking part in televised debates, serving up pizza, painting
00:44pottery and bungee jumping. But as polling day approaches, voters must choose where to
00:51put their cross on the ballot paper, and help decide who gets the keys to No. 10. Some
00:58people have voted already by post, but for those voting in person, polling day is on
01:04Thursday, July 4. Polls are open from 7am to 10pm, and the results are expected before
01:11breakfast time on Friday.
