00:02 Conditional approval was granted by the Insolvency Department

00:05 to appoint a bankrupt academic as the head of University Technology Mara's

00:09 Cardiothoracic Department.

00:11 Radwan Cheh Rose, Chairman of UITM's Board of Directors,

00:15 said the appointment was made based on the academic's experience and expertise.

00:20 In a statement to FMT, he said the appointment was endorsed by the Insolvency Department

00:25 with specific conditions.

00:26 Last Friday, Academy of Sciences Malaysia fellow Tajudin Abdullah

00:30 called on the university to take accountability

00:33 and furnish details of its engagement with the Higher Education Ministry.

00:37 Tajudin said failing to do so would erode public confidence in the institution.

00:42 UITM also confirmed that the academic holds a practicing license

00:47 with the Malaysian Medical Council that is valid until December 31st.

00:51 The academic was declared bankrupt in 2014

00:54 and remained undischarged as of April 25th this year.
