00:00Hi everybody, I'm Mark Heath, I'm the Police Area Returning Officer for Hampshire and Isle of Wight and I'm sorry it's taken so long, it's been a long nearly 48 hours conducting these polls and getting things ready so I'm sorry it's a little late in the day but nevertheless we have the results for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police Area.
00:22I'm Mark Heath, being the Returning Officer of this election, given notice that the number of votes cast for each candidate was as follows.
00:29Brad Baines, Liberal Democrats, 92,843.
00:33Don Gerrard, the Justice and Anti-Corruption Party, 40,691.
00:39Donna Jones, Conservative Candidate, More Police, Safer Streets, 175,953.
00:47Becky Williams, Labour and Co-operative Party, 106,141.
00:52And I therefore declare that Donna Jones has duly been elected as the Police and Crime Commissioner for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police Area.
00:59Thank you.
01:00Congratulations.
01:01Thank you very much.
01:02I'd just like to say a few words.
01:04First of all I'd like to start by saying thank you to my opponents because there is only a victory if you have opponents and you have a fair contest.
01:11So thank you to both Becky and to Crown and to all of your teams for the work that you have done.
01:15And secondly to all of the accounting agents, all of the staff, the polling staff that have been making this election obviously the legitimate process that it has been.
01:24For me as the first and only Police and Crime Commissioner that has ever been re-elected into Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Constabulary as it now is, this is really a very special and humbling occasion for me.
01:37I feel very strongly about standing up for victims of crime but I also feel very strongly about giving taxpayers what they rightly deserve.
01:45And taxpayers across this county pay no taxes, they expect a police service that's fit for purpose, that's going to not only prevent crime but also detect crime and be keeping victims as safe as we possibly can.
01:57For me the work starts tomorrow, probably even tonight, getting more police on our streets, making our communities safer, getting drug gangs removed from our county, from our shores here in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and also about reducing knife crime.
02:11I know it's a huge job, I feel very privileged to represent two million people and thank you very much for being here today and for your support. Thank you.
02:27Thank you.
