00:00 Good morning and welcome to May, which by my reckoning,
00:04 owes us quite a few flowers given all the April showers.
00:08 Now, there will still be some showers around today,
00:10 but there will also be some spring sunshine to be had.
00:13 We're going to flip things around a little bit, though,
00:16 because after a fine day yesterday across much of the East,
00:18 it is a drabber day, a much duller day for North East
00:21 England and Eastern Scotland.
00:23 A little bit of patchy rain at times here,
00:25 turning particularly damp across parts of Aberdeenshire
00:28 through the late morning into the afternoon.
00:30 A few showers dotted around elsewhere,
00:32 but overall a much drier and brighter day for Wales,
00:35 South West England and Northern Ireland.
00:37 Some good spars of sunshine coming through here,
00:39 brightening up at times across East Anglia and Western
00:42 Scotland, doing pretty well for sunshine and also temperatures
00:45 18, 19 degrees likely here and further south,
00:49 where we see some sunshine coming through again,
00:51 temperatures getting into the high teens.
00:53 It's going to feel a lot cooler, though,
00:55 across North East England and Eastern Scotland,
00:57 much more cloud here today and that breeze
00:59 coming in from the North Sea.
01:02 Let's take a look at what happens this evening,
01:04 because we do need to keep our eyes down to the south.
01:07 Some heavy showers coming up here,
01:08 likely to see some thunderstorms developing,
01:11 particularly as we go through the early hours.
01:13 Parts of Wales, southern England,
01:15 maybe even getting up into the Midlands.
01:17 You may well get woken up tonight by a rumble of thunder
01:20 or some flashes of lightning across parts of the south.
01:23 So something to be aware of.
01:25 A lot of heavy rain falling in a short space of time
01:27 as well could generate a lot of spray and surface water
01:30 on the roads for tomorrow morning's commute.
01:32 Elsewhere, generally staying dry and temperatures
01:36 mostly holding up in double figures across England
01:39 and Wales, eight or nine, the low in towns and cities
01:41 further north.
01:42 A cloudy start then to Thursday one way or another.
01:45 Still some heavy bursts of rain early on across the southwest.
01:50 Should tend to clear away, but always
01:52 the likelihood of further showers
01:53 across southern parts of England, mid and south Wales.
01:57 That breeze strengthening coming in from the North Sea,
02:00 that's going to bring some fret and har at times
02:02 along these North Sea coasts.
02:04 That's going to be quite patchy in nature, however.
02:06 And a good part of northwest Scotland, Northern Ireland,
02:09 northwest England, much of the Midlands,
02:11 down towards East Anglia, should have a fine and sunny day
02:14 tomorrow.
02:15 And with warmer air in place across the UK,
02:18 it'll feel pretty pleasant as well.
02:20 Temperatures 19, 20.
02:22 One or two places, particularly Western Scotland,
02:23 could squeak a little higher than that, maybe 21,
02:26 22 in a few locations.
02:28 Much cooler with this breeze coming in from the North Sea
02:31 and where it stays cloudy on those eastern coast
02:33 temperatures struggling somewhat.
02:34 And cooler across the southwest here as well,
02:38 where we keep the thicker cloud, particularly
02:40 if you keep some showers.
02:41 Temperatures really struggle, just 13 or 14 Celsius.
02:44 This map shows those temperatures when
02:47 compared to the May average.
02:49 So you can see that sunny islands, temperatures
02:51 well above average, particularly so in Western Scotland,
02:53 significantly above average here.
02:56 Whereas it will be that cooler feel
02:57 on some of those North Sea coasts
02:59 and with a cloudier weather down towards the southwest.
03:03 Plenty going on.
