00:00:10 >> Ha ha.
00:00:16 >> We're good.
00:00:18 We're back, another one.
00:00:19 This is like our 40th show.
00:00:23 Let's figure it out.
00:00:24 Pre-draft first round, hung in there.
00:00:27 You guys came back, that was two on night one.
00:00:30 We did two, three yesterday.
00:00:34 Yeah, so this is our sixth draft special since the draft began.
00:00:39 Plans for today, we're gonna start with the fourth round.
00:00:42 We're hanging here through these picks for sure.
00:00:45 If there's any movement, we'll try to hang if they trade down or
00:00:48 whatever until those picks are made.
00:00:50 Then our guys gotta scoot, they gotta go cover, they gotta talk to the guys and
00:00:54 the conference calls and the video calls with the Patriots people.
00:00:58 And then we'll see what happens.
00:00:59 As of now, Amit, do we have an updated draft board?
00:01:02 Let's pull it up here.
00:01:03 Yes, we do.
00:01:05 Here's what we're looking at.
00:01:06 There's no fifth round pick, so there's a little bit of a gap there.
00:01:10 After four, we may peace out for a bit.
00:01:13 Realistically, I think barring some sort of crazy trade
00:01:17 that involves a player at this point.
00:01:19 I can't imagine what you would do that would come down as crazy in the fourth
00:01:25 round, I mean after the fourth round.
00:01:28 It's really just a couple picks here in the sixth, seventh round.
00:01:31 We'll round it out.
00:01:33 We'll jump back on at the end, kind of put a bow on the entire thing and
00:01:37 look at everything and maybe hear from some of the picks as they come in and
00:01:41 they talk to the media in Foxborough.
00:01:43 So here we go, on the clock 101, we are coming fast.
00:01:47 So there's no reason to mess around anymore, guys.
00:01:49 Let's just get to your top picks.
00:01:51 We're gonna start with Taylor's top in round four and what you like here.
00:01:56 And look, you snuck two defenders in here.
00:02:02 I will allow defense here, but what do you guys think you're gonna do?
00:02:04 >> Three defenders are okay.
00:02:06 >> Here's the players, but also I wanna know what you want,
00:02:11 what you think out of it.
00:02:13 And I wanna get the mics too, so let's zip through it cuz we're close.
00:02:15 >> Yeah, I do think they're gonna get another weapon.
00:02:17 Javon Baker is my guy.
00:02:19 I think he can be that X, he's explosive downfield and after the catch.
00:02:22 Troy Franklin, kind of the same thing where he can play the X.
00:02:25 He has the explosiveness downfield and after the catch,
00:02:27 although he does have the Taekwon Thornton thing where he does have a small frame
00:02:31 and small hands, but I think he's better at route pacing and
00:02:34 he's better after the catch, has better contact balance.
00:02:36 Then this is where I think the Patriots should address defense.
00:02:39 Hopefully, I think they're gonna trade back with that second, fourth rounder.
00:02:43 I'd love to see them get Austin Booker.
00:02:44 He's a young guy, he's kind of mature at this point in his career, but
00:02:47 he's got a ton of pass rush moves, which is crazy for how little he's actually
00:02:50 played and led his team in sacks and forced fumbles.
00:02:53 So he's an impressive prospect.
00:02:55 Cade Stover, I think they need to add some developmental depth at tight end.
00:02:59 He's the top tight end on the board for me.
00:03:01 True inline Y, which I think they need, but
00:03:03 he also has positional versatility to play all over.
00:03:05 And Brandon Dorlis, another Oregon guy like Troy Franklin.
00:03:09 He's kind of like a Dietrich Weiss type to me, where he's probably gonna be like
00:03:11 one of your odd front defensive ends, where he's playing head up over or
00:03:15 inside of an offensive tackle.
00:03:17 And sometimes can play on the edge, although I don't think that's where he's
00:03:20 gonna live.
00:03:21 >> Okay, so that is what you've got.
00:03:23 Let's look at, I wanna make sure I've got Mike's correct ones here.
00:03:26 Top targets round four, does this look right?
00:03:30 No, that's five through seven.
00:03:34 Ahmed, what do we got here?
00:03:35 Which one's which?
00:03:36 Can you see it?
00:03:39 >> Yeah.
00:03:40 >> That's who you got.
00:03:40 Okay, put it up there, yep.
00:03:42 >> All right, here we go, round, did it go away?
00:03:45 >> Yep, put it up again.
00:03:46 >> Okay, sorry.
00:03:47 For what it's worth, the Broncos just traded up ahead of the Patriots.
00:03:52 Not sure what you wanna read into that, but number one,
00:03:56 Javon Baker, obviously me and Tara on the same page there.
00:03:58 A guy who could have been a round three guy, falls a little bit from UCF.
00:04:02 Could, like you said, be that ex-receiver.
00:04:05 I wanna point out too with Troy Franklin here,
00:04:08 a guy who's fallen as well, similar to Baker.
00:04:10 I don't have him on my list because he fell this far and I'm not too sold on
00:04:17 the fact that the NFL thinks he's a fallen candidate, but
00:04:20 we'll see where that plays out.
00:04:21 Number two, Javion Sanders, tight end.
00:04:23 Me and Taylor both agree the Patriots need that developmental tight end.
00:04:26 He's fallen as well, he could have been a day two guy.
00:04:29 He can play all over the field.
00:04:31 He did a lot of Texas, split out wide, stayed inside.
00:04:34 So I like him to add to their offense.
00:04:36 Cam Hart, cornerback, he is my one defender from round four that I will take.
00:04:40 A long cornerback from Notre Dame who plays on the outside.
00:04:44 He's very instinctual, he understands the game.
00:04:46 I think that's the, in my opinion, the most underrated trait of a corner,
00:04:50 who's someone who can, understands.
00:04:53 Well, Javion Sanders just went, so we can take him off my board.
00:04:56 Javion Sanders just went to the Panthers.
00:04:58 >> Is that to the Panthers?
00:04:59 So we got the Broncos up ahead of the Patriots and then the Patriots up, okay.
00:05:03 >> Yeah, and so rounding it out, two other ex-receivers.
00:05:06 Brendan Rice, pedigree with Jerry Rice and Tez Walker who, look,
00:05:10 I know there's some question marks on Tez Walker, right?
00:05:12 But he played with Drake May.
00:05:13 I'm sure Drake May is gonna be in there saying, go get my guy, Tez Walker.
00:05:17 So look, anything past pick 100, you're drafting for upside and
00:05:21 you're kind of throwing darts at this point.
00:05:23 So I don't mind taking a swing at Tez Walker here in round four.
00:05:27 >> Okay, and that's what we're looking at here.
00:05:29 What do we think is gonna happen, guys?
00:05:32 What's your gut tell you?
00:05:33 Where do you think they go based on everything we've heard from the pre-draft
00:05:37 process through what they've done so far,
00:05:41 the type of players that it appears they're targeting?
00:05:44 We're talking about, and again, I know people are still kind of parsing through
00:05:49 their thoughts and we don't have a chance to as we are going to be on the clock with
00:05:53 the Patriots picks pretty soon, but parsing through yesterday as safe rather than sexy.
00:06:00 And some people might have felt that, take a swing here.
00:06:06 It felt like B minus pick, slight reaches, players who were safe,
00:06:10 not moving up the board to maybe get a guy you necessarily targeted.
00:06:13 None of that matters, cuz what we don't know is how good are they at this?
00:06:17 It's year one.
00:06:18 What if they're awesome at it?
00:06:19 Now, Taylor, what?
00:06:20 I'm reading your face, your guy went- >> Went to the Broncos.
00:06:23 >> Troy Franklin goes to Denver, okay.
00:06:25 >> All right, Javon Baker, bust, baby, let's go.
00:06:28 >> Take Javon Baker, maybe trade back if you can get something,
00:06:30 if the trades are gonna start- >> Possible the Broncos had some intel
00:06:33 that the Patriots were gonna go in that direction and that's why they jumped there.
00:06:37 >> Yeah, I think so.
00:06:38 >> That would make a lot of sense.
00:06:39 >> Javon Baker, let's do it, let's do it.
00:06:41 >> So yeah, I think I'm with Taylor, you go Baker here.
00:06:44 He was the top guy on our board, can play the exerceiver role that we know they
00:06:48 want, John, you mentioned where they go in general at this point.
00:06:51 Reading that Cam Wolfe report from yesterday when he said that they were
00:06:56 gonna weaponize the offense with 34 and 68.
00:06:59 At 68, they went tackle instead, so
00:07:02 now they perhaps double dip in the wide receiver market.
00:07:05 You have 103, you have 110, use one of them on another receiver.
00:07:09 And keep sort of, I just said it before, but throw darts for the offense.
00:07:15 And try and get as many guys as possible who you can try and help drink that way.
00:07:19 >> Baker, I know who you guys are talking about as well.
00:07:22 Physical profile is kind of similar to Polk in the sense of,
00:07:28 not huge, 6'1", 200, also not explosively fast, ran a 4.54.
00:07:36 But again, vertical, broad jump, it's kind of a well-built guy,
00:07:41 muscular sort of frame here.
00:07:46 What type of receiver is this and
00:07:47 how does it complement what they currently have if they do go in that direction?
00:07:51 >> Mike, do you wanna take it?
00:07:56 >> Yeah, just one second, sorry.
00:07:59 >> Yeah.
00:08:01 >> I missed you, sorry, John.
00:08:02 What does Javon Baker bring as far as a skill set for the Patriots?
00:08:05 >> Versus what they have in the room right now.
00:08:08 >> Yeah, so I mean, I look at guys, guys like KJ Osborne, Kendrick Bourne,
00:08:13 even Tyquan Thornton, more of your Z receiver who can kinda,
00:08:16 you can move a little bit everywhere where they don't really have that true X yet.
00:08:20 And even, that's interesting actually, Denver just reunited Troy Franklin and
00:08:25 Bo Nix too, I didn't think of that cuz they both played at Oregon.
00:08:30 The X receiver is still the question mark and even Jalen Polk,
00:08:33 maybe they wanna try and use him there.
00:08:36 But there's a little bit of overlap there and he's versatile too.
00:08:38 We talked about Polk's versatility yesterday where,
00:08:40 like Juju Smith-Schuster, right, is also a Z.
00:08:42 And I accidentally just omitted him when I was starting to talk about their Z
00:08:46 receivers because you don't really know his future here.
00:08:50 Anybody who has a connection to the Belichick regime could be
00:08:54 someone who this team easily moves on from.
00:08:58 So I'm not necessarily shooing in Juju yet,
00:09:01 I know we mentioned that this morning on the Pats Daily Pats beat thing.
00:09:04 Taylor said, are we even sure Juju's gonna be on this team?
00:09:06 So Cole Strange, same thing,
00:09:09 anybody from that regime is not a shoo-in to be on this team.
00:09:13 So you bring in a guy like Javon Baker, he plays the X, the true go up and
00:09:18 get it matchup breaker, three by one stuff that we keep talking about.
00:09:22 And then you have all these other guys and Polk can be your Z,
00:09:24 Warren can be your Z, and then you go from there and work it out, so.
00:09:28 >> You work it out.
00:09:30 >> Yeah. >> I'm just kidding.
00:09:31 >> And again, I do think that Baker gives you one, a true three level threat.
00:09:36 I don't think he's a burner like Troy Franklin, but
00:09:38 he's fast enough to get over the top of defenses.
00:09:40 He's kinda got a little bit more build up speed,
00:09:42 although I think he is fast enough.
00:09:44 He can win after the catch, like I said yesterday,
00:09:46 I think he's someone who really does scare you with the ball in his hands because of
00:09:49 his ability to make those big plays.
00:09:51 And he's a really good route runner, he is a better route runner than Troy Franklin.
00:09:55 I think he's got a better build.
00:09:57 Both guys, though, are inconsistent when it comes to the catch point.
00:09:59 So that's kind of an issue that's gonna need to be worked out.
00:10:02 And the inconsistencies in Javon Baker's game, I think, are why he slipped.
00:10:05 But he's a super talented player.
00:10:07 So again, I really hope that if they can't get Franklin,
00:10:10 then they end up getting him.
00:10:11 >> Gotcha, gotcha.
00:10:16 I don't have it in front of me, but according to the broadcast anyway,
00:10:19 the pick is in.
00:10:20 >> The broadcast is in, and we're gonna wait, cuz we're gonna react to it.
00:10:23 I have another question about what the Patriots might do,
00:10:26 which we haven't discussed yet.
00:10:28 But anyway, let's just wait, let's wait it out.
00:10:30 >> Yes, my gosh, there's a reason.
00:10:35 >> Come on, it's always on Twitter.
00:10:42 It always breaks on Twitter before the broadcast.
00:10:45 >> Nobody cares anymore.
00:10:46 Everyone's- >> Did you see Breers' tweet yesterday?
00:10:48 >> Huh?
00:10:50 >> Did you see Breers' tweet yesterday?
00:10:52 Someone asked, why no more picks?
00:10:53 And he goes- >> Offensive guard,
00:10:55 Laden Robinson out of Texas A&M.
00:10:58 >> Hmm.
00:11:01 >> Get excited, guys.
00:11:03 >> No.
00:11:04 >> Honestly, he's not a guy I'm super familiar with, to be honest.
00:11:07 Let's see.
00:11:08 They said they wanted to add competition to the offensive line, so there you go.
00:11:13 >> [INAUDIBLE]
00:11:15 >> Get excited, guys.
00:11:23 >> No. >> That's what we do here.
00:11:25 >> Good.
00:11:25 >> So apparently he needs to improve his consistency and
00:11:31 pass protection, but he's a big guy.
00:11:34 >> Senior.
00:11:35 >> He's a senior bowl guy.
00:11:37 But apparently he didn't do well here or at the combine, which hurt his stock.
00:11:43 Let's see.
00:11:46 >> Taylor, be the optimistic one, cuz I don't like it.
00:11:48 >> I told you, I don't know who this is.
00:11:50 I don't think I'm gonna be optimistic.
00:11:52 >> Probably an indictment on Cole Strange again, beefing up the offensive line.
00:11:57 >> Power, he's got nimble feet.
00:12:00 >> Yeah, it sounds like he's got good physical tools, but
00:12:03 technique wise, he's not great.
00:12:12 >> Mel just said he's gonna be a starter in the NFL, but
00:12:15 I mean, obviously, it's a top one or it's a 103 pick, but like.
00:12:18 >> NFL.com listed as average backup or special teamer.
00:12:22 [LAUGH] >> Okay, interesting.
00:12:28 >> Just in terms of people, and again, yeah, that's where we are.
00:12:33 >> Look, this tells me that it's what I just said about
00:12:36 not nobody on the page from the Belichick regime being a shoe in.
00:12:41 This tells me that Cole Strange is not in their long term plan on the Indira offensive
00:12:45 line.
00:12:46 It's just, we look at what Elliott Wolf said a few weeks ago as far as who we
00:12:53 have a solid offensive lineman, and he talked about a core four, and
00:12:58 he talked about on when he talked about the three guys last year,
00:13:02 which now granted that's also Belichick regime.
00:13:04 But he talks about David Andrews and he doesn't mention Cole Strange.
00:13:10 I have a feeling that they're ready to kind of, I mean, look,
00:13:13 Cole Strange has played pretty good football when he's healthy, but
00:13:17 he's had a hard time staying healthy.
00:13:19 And he's had a hard time going back from it as well.
00:13:21 So I don't wanna cut him out yet.
00:13:23 We did the Cole Strange pity party last night rather when they took somebody.
00:13:29 >> It just, once again,
00:13:30 just feels like another guy that you can get pretty much anywhere.
00:13:34 And that's why it is.
00:13:35 It's like, fine, great, draft these projects, depth guys.
00:13:40 I just feel like this is Jake Andrews to me.
00:13:42 This is like, can't you just get the next one around late?
00:13:46 I know you don't have a fifth round pick.
00:13:48 And if you're really set on addressing need and
00:13:50 you don't think by the sixth round, there's anybody left that can compete for it.
00:13:54 That's fine.
00:13:55 And you're looking at your receiver room and you're thinking,
00:13:57 I'm not drafting three starters this year out of this draft.
00:14:00 But again, the draft for need, the draft for depth, the draft for unsexy.
00:14:04 It feels like, again, you're doing this with high round three and
00:14:08 four picks which still have chances to kind of start.
00:14:11 And you're drafting for depth and camp competition at this point,
00:14:15 which tough to get excited about.
00:14:17 What say you, Chad?
00:14:19 I have ignored you.
00:14:22 And again, I mean, sure, I guess.
00:14:27 There's still quite a Patriots infrastructure remaining here in terms of
00:14:33 who's evaluating these types of players.
00:14:35 So yeah, so that's where we're at.
00:14:39 I mean, it's obviously tough when I mean, me and
00:14:43 Taylor both have Javon Baker right there on the top of our draft board.
00:14:47 You can double dip a wide receiver.
00:14:48 You can take another shot at a guy who can be your ex and
00:14:51 instead you draft a guard.
00:14:53 After drafting guards, we sat here literally 365 days ago on Saturday and
00:14:58 they drafted basically three guards in a row.
00:15:01 And now they do it again.
00:15:02 So that honestly took a year off my life.
00:15:08 Yeah, that was like the guard, guard,
00:15:12 guard, kicker, the run almost killed me.
00:15:17 It felt like it was like a black mirror episode or
00:15:20 like something that was like, I'd entered a portal into my draft nightmare
00:15:24 last year with the defense, defense, defense, guard, guard, guard, special teams,
00:15:29 special teams, I'll never, I have nightmares about that still.
00:15:33 So nothing's ever gonna be there.
00:15:36 Talent still on the board.
00:15:39 Can you make it all up?
00:15:40 Oftentimes, you know what happens?
00:15:42 You don't love a few things and then you love the F out of something
00:15:46 that comes in in a little bit.
00:15:47 We're at pick 104, Cardinals pick is in, they took a safety, I believe.
00:15:52 You've still got some receivers here as well.
00:15:57 So Leighton Robinson, 103rd pick NFL draft, a guard, he sort of got.
00:16:03 >> I have a, there's an extremely high chance that we're gonna hop on this zoom
00:16:07 whenever we get this video call and Leighton Robinson is gonna be yet
00:16:12 another stand up guy because it's the character draft for the Patriots.
00:16:16 He's gonna rock our world and then we're gonna come back on this room be like,
00:16:19 we love them, it's great.
00:16:21 Like because they're just they're drafting nice guys.
00:16:23 >> Yeah, the Patriots just sent a memo that said Leighton Robinson will join us
00:16:28 via video conference call as soon as he's done pulling babies out of burning
00:16:32 buildings and he should be here any minute now.
00:16:35 >> [LAUGH] >> And so yes,
00:16:38 >> I'll be the optimist somewhat here.
00:16:41 I don't really wanna be the optimist, just the realist.
00:16:44 Like offensive line picks are not sexy, but it's, I mean,
00:16:47 after what we saw last season, it's really hard to get upset if they like
00:16:51 an offensive lineman if they think he can contribute,
00:16:53 we'll hear what they think about his projection.
00:16:56 And hey, we don't know they still have another fourth round pick.
00:16:59 If they can trade back and still get a weapon,
00:17:01 I feel like we're gonna feel pretty differently about this.
00:17:03 So I'm not to overreact right now.
00:17:05 Am I disappointed it wasn't Javon Baker?
00:17:07 Yes, but at the same time,
00:17:09 maybe he was the next guy on the board after Troy Franklin.
00:17:11 >> You do need a lot of character to handle another four win season.
00:17:17 So I do understand the thinking here.
00:17:20 That yes, it takes a great amount of character and
00:17:24 makeup to be able to get your butts kicked over and over again.
00:17:29 But take a swing guys.
00:17:34 >> That's the- >> Take a swing.
00:17:35 >> Again- >> Here's, go.
00:17:38 >> No, it's almost like you feel bad for
00:17:43 Layden Robinson, for our reactions to it, right?
00:17:48 Because he's probably a good football player if he's getting drafted in
00:17:52 the NFL draft.
00:17:53 He probably kicks ass on the interior offensive line.
00:17:56 The Patriots probably really like his game.
00:17:57 But when we're sitting here and we want splashes, we want huge picks.
00:18:02 We sit here and say it's not a good pick and it probably isn't.
00:18:07 And it's not against Layden Robinson.
00:18:09 It's just the fact that we want splash.
00:18:11 We want Drake May to have eight different wide receivers to be able to throw to and
00:18:16 score 65 points.
00:18:17 Now, it's hard to grade now too, obviously,
00:18:20 because we don't know what he's gonna turn into.
00:18:22 But it's just deflating.
00:18:24 That's the bottom line.
00:18:26 It's a deflating- >> We are also dumb immature children and
00:18:31 we want shiny objects.
00:18:33 And I understand that as well.
00:18:34 And a lot of fans do.
00:18:35 And that's why it's always gonna feel like an uninspired pick.
00:18:38 I'm gonna put my positive spin hat as we look at his composite score here.
00:18:45 Composite size grade, poor.
00:18:47 Explosion grade, good.
00:18:49 Agility grade, good.
00:18:50 Speed grade, good.
00:18:52 Pulling guard, here you go.
00:18:54 But I'm putting my positive spin hat on.
00:18:56 Ready, are we ready?
00:18:57 It is the smart and sane thing to do to first build a wall around your
00:19:03 franchise quarterback before figuring anything else out.
00:19:09 I don't know that these guys do it.
00:19:11 But I understand without having a fifth round pick,
00:19:14 let's say the things you're saying here.
00:19:16 Down on Cole Strange, down on a lot of the picks of the previous regime and
00:19:22 the direction they went.
00:19:24 Recognizing that we have to build not just this year but
00:19:27 next year to even have a shot of putting Drake May out there.
00:19:30 Cuz Drake May is my Fabergé egg and he's fragile and
00:19:33 I don't wanna break him right now and I don't wanna break his mind.
00:19:36 Everybody in the building has seen a quarterback have their mind broken by
00:19:41 this, so I understand the desire to build inside out and
00:19:46 that's what they should do.
00:19:47 You can't do anything with receivers if you can't protect them.
00:19:52 But why does everyone else rate this guy a round or
00:19:57 two lower aspect to it?
00:20:00 Which is that.
00:20:01 So people can talk, here's the great comp, right?
00:20:04 Nobody wanted Keon White necessarily at that spot last year.
00:20:08 But everyone was like, okay, first round grave, great.
00:20:12 Cooper Dejean would have been in the same boat.
00:20:14 You're like, all right, too good to pass up values here.
00:20:17 A lot of people had this person ranked in the 20s.
00:20:19 You're taking him at 50.
00:20:20 Okay, I get it.
00:20:22 You realize you might have an impact player there.
00:20:24 But to do it at a position that isn't necessarily sexy and
00:20:27 grab somebody that seemingly could be had a couple rounds later,
00:20:30 I think is the reason for the reaction more so than anything else.
00:20:33 Our friend Alex Barth here, like Caden Wallace,
00:20:36 Clayton Robinson is a very experienced offensive lineman.
00:20:40 Who can play multiple spots, 33 starts over the last three years.
00:20:43 Powerful consistency and issue, flashed top 100 talent at times, but
00:20:49 has technique issues.
00:20:50 And again, anyone picked in the 100 range and beyond will have some warts or
00:20:55 else they wouldn't still be here.
00:20:57 And that's understandable across the board.
00:20:59 Guys, in your crazy, insane internet research and tweeting and
00:21:03 whatever it is you're doing at the moment, have you done anything that has
00:21:07 given you any insight that you wanna share with the group?
00:21:10 >> The only thing I did was tweet a funny Belichick gif because it feels like
00:21:14 a Belichick pic.
00:21:14 [LAUGH] >> Yeah.
00:21:16 >> So that's my insight.
00:21:18 >> Okay, good. As long as you guys have your eyes on
00:21:20 the prize, it's not like we have 2,500 people in here hanging out.
00:21:23 Over 1,000 on YouTube.
00:21:24 >> So I do- >> Maybe service the fans here.
00:21:28 >> I do agree with what you're saying as far as protecting Drake May.
00:21:33 That does need to be a priority.
00:21:35 It's not like they reached for an edge rusher here, right?
00:21:40 They reached for an offensive lineman.
00:21:43 So they're at least trying to continue to build up that offense.
00:21:46 They've spent their first four picks on offense.
00:21:48 That's a positive in its own right.
00:21:49 So I guess that's how we can spin it.
00:21:52 Taylor?
00:21:53 >> I think I'm looking ahead.
00:21:55 So you're always drafting for a couple years in the future.
00:21:58 And so right now, it looks like Nick Leverett and
00:22:00 Michael Jordan are the veteran backups.
00:22:02 But then after that, you've got Sidney, so he's probably gonna be a starter.
00:22:04 Jake Andrews, who should be taking over for David Andrews.
00:22:07 Antonio Maffi doesn't really feel, one, I think he's, I have him as great as a practice
00:22:12 squad player because he could not really contribute anything or
00:22:16 very much positive last season.
00:22:18 So that's also assuming he might not be a scheme fit in this offense if they're
00:22:21 asking these guys to pull a lot and do all that kind of stuff.
00:22:24 So they did need depth on the interior of the offensive line.
00:22:27 And we don't know what Cole Strange's health situation is.
00:22:29 Keep bringing it up.
00:22:30 And obviously, yesterday when we learned that Kaden Moss was a left tackle,
00:22:33 it's like, all right, maybe there is more optimism.
00:22:35 This tells me that maybe there isn't so much.
00:22:38 And when Cole Strange was down, they had to keep putting in City, so,
00:22:41 I'm not City, so I'm sorry, Maffi, who couldn't really do much for them.
00:22:45 And James Ference, who obviously was retired because he was at the end of
00:22:48 his rope.
00:22:49 So I do think if this is a guy who has starter upside and
00:22:53 can maybe jump Nick Leverett and Michael Jordan, I'm not mad about that.
00:22:57 You wanna protect Drake May.
00:22:59 And again, there's gonna be weapons in the future.
00:23:01 We talked about Bub means a ton and that being the double dip.
00:23:04 I like Javon Baker.
00:23:05 If it ends up being, they got Leighton Robinson for protection, and
00:23:08 then they get Bub means in the sixth round.
00:23:11 I think we have to look at the entire board to really have a feel for
00:23:14 us how effective these picks are.
00:23:16 And the beast, Dane Brugler, has Leighton Robinson as a fourth to fifth round pick.
00:23:20 So we'll hear what the team thinks about him, maybe fill in some of those gaps.
00:23:24 But it's why I don't like reacting immediately when I don't love a pick,
00:23:27 because I wanna get more information.
00:23:29 And when you have to, I know business and whatever, but Mike.
00:23:33 >> No, no, no, you have to, yeah, it's hard to react other than to say like,
00:23:37 all right, this wasn't on my radar.
00:23:39 Because again, someone like this was a little bit deeper.
00:23:42 And again, if you're looking at other big boards out there, ringer, PFF and
00:23:46 this and that, this is a player kind of closer to the 150 than the 100 range.
00:23:51 So it's not somebody who's necessarily on the radar.
00:23:53 You're not scouting fifth or sixth round guard prospects.
00:23:57 When you're looking at the tape of all the different players here,
00:24:00 you grab them, you kind of learn a little bit about them as they go.
00:24:03 And as time goes on, this is how the process works.
00:24:06 That stuff comes out of the woodworks.
00:24:07 This guy liked them over here.
00:24:09 This team had them higher on the board.
00:24:12 He was blah, blah, blah.
00:24:13 I mean, a lot of the stuff about the left tackle situation yesterday with their pick.
00:24:18 >> Completely flipped our mind.
00:24:19 It completely flipped how we thought of him.
00:24:20 >> Flips and a tad.
00:24:21 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:24:48 >> Not yet, so we're on 108 now.
00:24:53 So I know that the broadcast a little behind from our lovely producer,
00:24:59 Amit, told us that Theo Johnson went to the Giants at pick number 107.
00:25:04 So it's Minnesota on the clock at 108, then we have 109, and
00:25:08 then 110 is the Patriots, so.
00:25:10 Javon Baker could still fall to 110 and we can be just as happy.
00:25:14 >> Well, he's gonna fall into like the fifth round and
00:25:17 people still won't understand why.
00:25:19 Stuff like that always happens.
00:25:20 I feel like this happens every year.
00:25:22 There's kind of this darling that falls.
00:25:24 For what it's worth, the Colts came out and
00:25:27 said they thought the A.D. Mitchell slander was bullshit.
00:25:31 I know they'll say that cuz they picked him and they wanna reassure people that
00:25:37 whatever stuff or character concerns and all of those things is not real.
00:25:41 Yeah.
00:25:44 Yeah.
00:25:44 Yeah, I can't wait to see what they do with this next pick.
00:25:52 That's what I'll say.
00:25:53 And I also I'm excited to hear what LA Wolf thinks just so we have.
00:25:57 Theo Johnson went to the Giants.
00:25:58 That's pretty. >> Yeah.
00:25:59 >> I liked him.
00:26:01 >> So. >> They're picking soon.
00:26:03 I think they're gonna trade back.
00:26:04 Who do you think they trade back with?
00:26:05 Maybe the Ravens?
00:26:06 The Ravens are usually pretty aggressive.
00:26:10 I think they're gonna still- >> What's the sweet spot here, guys,
00:26:13 would you say, positionally right now, if there's gonna be a run or
00:26:16 if there are still good cluster of talent in a particular position,
00:26:21 what do you think it is?
00:26:22 What's left here and what teams might need it to move to it?
00:26:26 >> There's a couple decent cornerbacks and wide receivers too.
00:26:29 There's still wide receiver talent on the board.
00:26:31 We know it.
00:26:33 We've talked about the Javon Bakers, but I mean, Brendan Rice is there.
00:26:37 Tess Walker's there.
00:26:38 Johnny Wilson's there.
00:26:40 These are players who can be starters eventually in the NFL.
00:26:44 So teams can start to trade up for that.
00:26:46 If the Patriots aren't sold on it, they can trade back from 110,
00:26:49 acquire another pick in the middle of or in the next round.
00:26:53 We talk about filling that gap between 110 and 180.
00:26:58 I think they're more likely to trade back from 110 than to trade up from 180 to get
00:27:03 in there, you know what I'm saying?
00:27:04 Cuz they'd rather accumulate picks than burn picks to get up in there.
00:27:08 So this is gonna be the time where they make that move back,
00:27:12 at least in my opinion.
00:27:13 So we have a couple more picks to go, but Wolf keeps talking about add picks,
00:27:18 add picks, throw darts, what have you.
00:27:20 I don't think he said that word for word, but so it feels to me,
00:27:24 I think it's a trade back here, if I had to guess right now.
00:27:27 >> Interesting, interesting.
00:27:31 >> But again, they also, look, I just said that there's all these wide receivers
00:27:34 that are gonna fall in teams, they're gonna trade up for it.
00:27:35 The Patriots also need to make more dart throws at wide receivers, so
00:27:38 they could also easily just take one and wait out this next round.
00:27:41 >> Yeah, yeah.
00:27:44 >> I don't know.
00:27:45 We shall see.
00:27:46 >> Yeah, we shall see.
00:27:50 >> So what do we want with this next pick?
00:27:53 Do we still want weapons?
00:27:54 >> I think you still want- >> [CROSSTALK]
00:27:56 >> About long term plan,
00:27:58 Ramondur Stevenson gonna be a free agent.
00:28:00 Antonio Gibson's the only guy who's under contract, I think, for 2025, so.
00:28:04 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:28:10 >> They could also go defender.
00:28:11 >> Yeah, for sure.
00:28:13 Austin Booker?
00:28:14 >> So Louis Riddick is also now raving about Layden Robinson.
00:28:19 So yesterday he loved- >> Who put Louis Riddick on the payroll?
00:28:23 Cuz- >> I know.
00:28:24 >> He's coming here.
00:28:25 >> [LAUGH] >> Maybe he's,
00:28:29 when Robert Kraft said they're interviewing GM candidates,
00:28:33 after the draft, maybe he's one of them.
00:28:36 >> Right.
00:28:37 >> I wonder.
00:28:38 >> He does have a connection with Bill.
00:28:40 I think he played for Bill.
00:28:40 >> He loves Bill.
00:28:42 >> Didn't he? >> But Bill's not here anymore.
00:28:44 So he loves Bill.
00:28:46 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:28:49 Yeah, here's something we haven't talked about.
00:28:51 I'm gonna throw it out to you guys.
00:28:52 >> Kyrie Jackson, who I actually had on my next round board.
00:28:58 >> Would the Patriots consider another quarterback in this draft?
00:29:03 >> Yes, I don't think here.
00:29:05 >> I don't, I think they have too many- >> No, we talked about it earlier.
00:29:08 I don't think they would, but it's obviously a possibility.
00:29:11 But they're not gonna do it.
00:29:12 >> Yeah, it's a possibility.
00:29:13 >> Yeah.
00:29:13 I don't know.
00:29:16 Look, I still think they're fine with Zappi as their third guy.
00:29:18 I mentioned that this morning.
00:29:20 I don't, frankly, I'm exhausted and I don't know why I just said yes to
00:29:23 John's question, cuz no, I don't think they're drafting a quarterback in this draft.
00:29:27 No, I think it's May, I think it's Brissette.
00:29:29 And I think it's Zappi until you can cut him.
00:29:33 >> Yeah.
00:29:34 >> They already cut him.
00:29:35 They cut him a year ago.
00:29:36 Why not do it again?
00:29:37 >> You guys out partying?
00:29:38 What were you doing last night?
00:29:40 >> Recording on here.
00:29:42 >> I know, I'm just kidding.
00:29:43 I know, I know.
00:29:44 It's like- >> I watched this video until I fell asleep.
00:29:47 >> It's like you never left.
00:29:49 >> Javon, Patriots, let's go!
00:29:51 Let's go!
00:29:52 >> Okay.
00:29:53 >> Go!
00:29:54 >> Let's go.
00:29:56 >> I will allow it.
00:29:58 >> All right, we're back, we're back.
00:30:00 >> Everyone pep up, everyone pep it up.
00:30:02 Everyone pep it up.
00:30:03 Let's go.
00:30:04 >> My God.
00:30:06 >> There you go.
00:30:07 >> I'm so excited.
00:30:08 Finally, that's the explosive player.
00:30:10 >> I'm about to pass out, my head hurts.
00:30:13 >> [LAUGH] >> My God, let's go.
00:30:16 >> So it happened, and the Patriots were on the clock.
00:30:21 Patriots were on the clock.
00:30:25 Javon Baker is the pick.
00:30:28 So again, we talked about him coming in.
00:30:30 This is a guy, I believe Giardi said yesterday, he liked him in round two.
00:30:39 >> Yeah, he's the guy who fell a little bit yesterday.
00:30:42 >> And so I guess, I mean, and you guys liked him in round three, right?
00:30:48 >> Yeah.
00:30:49 >> So I'd have to say, I think he was at both of your third round boards, right?
00:30:56 >> Yes.
00:30:57 >> So since Taylor is giddy, and if he doesn't get to talk soon,
00:31:01 he's going to explode.
00:31:02 >> Yeah, Taylor, go ahead.
00:31:03 >> It's also funny, cuz I was literally like coping.
00:31:06 I'm like, okay, they're probably not gonna take Javon Baker.
00:31:08 It's just gonna be above means, that's all it's gonna be.
00:31:11 My God, I'm so happy.
00:31:12 Reverse psychology works, people, okay.
00:31:14 So again, now you- >> It's never gonna happen.
00:31:17 >> I was coping, but honestly, now, what did I just say?
00:31:21 If they take Javon Baker or somebody like that later, I'll like this a lot better.
00:31:25 So they get- >> As I said,
00:31:26 it helps to fix things you didn't like as much.
00:31:29 How often does it happen?
00:31:30 I hated the second, but I like the third.
00:31:32 I don't like the third, but I like the fourth, so yeah.
00:31:34 Go ahead.
00:31:36 >> Yeah, but now they get the explosive X that they needed.
00:31:38 This is a guy who I think really can play that role.
00:31:41 If he's not ready yet, then you go to Jalen Pope, but I think they can rotate.
00:31:45 Again, a guy who has a lot of versatility.
00:31:48 This is like a thunder and lightning kind of thing, I feel like.
00:31:50 I'm really excited about this.
00:31:52 >> But he's not a blazer.
00:31:53 He doesn't have blazing speed.
00:31:55 >> I don't think he has blazing speed, but he is explosive.
00:32:00 I don't think he's Troy Franklin, but he's still fast.
00:32:03 He's faster than Jalen Pope, who we just said can win downfield,
00:32:07 even though he's not a burner either.
00:32:09 And I think that Javon Baker's more dynamic after the catch.
00:32:14 >> Yeah, and again, it's a 4-5-4 guy.
00:32:18 But as we said, other measurables, the 37-inch vertical, again, that's high.
00:32:23 The 4-5-4 is kind of really middle to low middle of the pack, so-
00:32:27 >> I wouldn't pay too much attention to that.
00:32:28 I'm just telling you, I wouldn't pay attention to that.
00:32:29 >> I know, I know.
00:32:31 >> First five picks, all offense.
00:32:34 >> All offense.
00:32:35 So again, two things happen.
00:32:37 The drafting for need thing, you can definitely feel good about that.
00:32:40 It really comes down to hoping that they know what they're doing and
00:32:43 that they didn't get took by kind of going down this road of focusing in on
00:32:47 players while ignoring other ones that may or may not have been better because
00:32:51 that's what they liked.
00:32:52 And again, it is very Belichicky in the sense of I know this guy and
00:32:56 I talked to this guy and there's character and this and that.
00:32:59 And guys I wanna coach, guys I wanna play for.
00:33:01 So that always worries me some, as I said.
00:33:03 I want the screw ups and the pot heads and those guys who run a 4-3.
00:33:10 But as you said, Baker was a guy you guys loved and they got.
00:33:15 And now you have, I will say like the nerds one, right?
00:33:20 Like offense, offense, offense, offense, it matters, go get it, figure it out.
00:33:26 This is very much a make,
00:33:28 what stinks is the making up for picks you've made at a position.
00:33:33 If they're redoing offensive line because they hated the ones that were taken
00:33:37 before, that's a bit of a one step backward, one step forward sort of thing.
00:33:41 But loading up and getting two receivers in the first four rounds is definitely
00:33:47 a plus plus and I think it's something you have to look at constantly.
00:33:52 I think you're always have to be grabbing at least one pass catcher
00:33:56 in these early rounds and keep replenishing.
00:33:58 As we said is teams miss all the time.
00:34:01 Kansas City has missed more than they've hit with some of their draft picks.
00:34:04 They just keep going back to the well because that's kind of what you have to
00:34:07 do because they're not all going to hit here but you have to take your shots.
00:34:11 So again, two shots at receiver, offensive line and
00:34:15 that's kind of where you're at in a quarterback.
00:34:17 I don't think positionally you could be much happier than that.
00:34:20 >> I'm fired up about this pick.
00:34:22 >> You have to be psyched.
00:34:24 So again, this does put air back under people's sails a little bit.
00:34:28 >> I needed this.
00:34:29 I needed this.
00:34:30 >> They really did.
00:34:32 >> Taylor really did need it.
00:34:34 >> It went from- >> How can you say that?
00:34:35 I wanted to bond Baker since yesterday.
00:34:37 I'm so happy.
00:34:38 This is great.
00:34:39 >> Taylor's that puppy dog that's sitting waiting for the owner to come home and
00:34:43 sad and as soon as he does, he perks up.
00:34:45 Like as soon as you get the player Taylor likes, I'm back.
00:34:49 >> Yeah.
00:34:50 >> That's me.
00:34:50 >> He's home.
00:34:51 There we go.
00:34:52 So you're geeked up.
00:34:54 Guys, as you're kind of looking around here,
00:34:55 other things you want to say about this particular pick?
00:34:58 >> It really gets- >> And how do you see him slotting in?
00:35:01 If Polk, you said that- >> I think he's-
00:35:04 >> Polk might come in and
00:35:05 be your ex right away.
00:35:06 Is this guy in place there?
00:35:08 >> This is your ex.
00:35:08 >> Or is Polk in a more versatile role?
00:35:10 >> I think he's your ex.
00:35:11 I think he and Jalen Polk will rotate.
00:35:13 I think he's the main guy though.
00:35:14 And more importantly, I think they can line up everywhere.
00:35:16 But I think that this gives Jalen Polk especially the flexibility to play in
00:35:20 different spots.
00:35:21 I'm so excited.
00:35:22 >> And I don't think this is a good sign for Juju Smith-Schuster.
00:35:29 I don't think- >> Yeah.
00:35:32 >> I think they're gonna go young.
00:35:35 It's gonna be, look, there are- >> Are we pretending Juju Smith-Schuster
00:35:39 is still on the team?
00:35:40 >> There are a ton of wide receivers in this room now.
00:35:43 It's Javon Baker, Jalen Polk, Taekwon, Kendrick Bourne,
00:35:48 KJ Osborne, Demario Douglas, Juju Smith-Schuster.
00:35:52 There's not enough room for those guys.
00:35:54 Something has to happen.
00:35:55 Something has to give.
00:35:56 Whether it's a Taekwon trade, whether it's a Juju trade,
00:35:59 whether they get straight up cut.
00:36:02 >> What?
00:36:03 No one's gonna trade for him?
00:36:04 >> Juju's not on.
00:36:05 No, I mean, maybe for scraps, I'm just saying Juju's not on the team.
00:36:08 If that's it, I think they will.
00:36:10 >> I'm not in any world considering Juju Smith-Schuster as having a roster spot on
00:36:15 this team.
00:36:16 And I didn't even before they drafted two receivers here, just didn't.
00:36:19 >> No, I know.
00:36:21 >> So I know people are talking about it.
00:36:22 I think it's a foregone conclusion that that's happening, which is great.
00:36:29 Look, you need it.
00:36:30 You need the infusion.
00:36:31 You need the young blood.
00:36:32 And honestly, you need to go back to the well again next year and
00:36:34 again after that.
00:36:35 You don't wanna rest here and keep restocking this position.
00:36:38 I also don't think this keeps you from trading next year to one of those teams
00:36:43 that might not wanna pay a guy $30 million here.
00:36:47 And again, there's going to be space and there's gonna be room to do that after
00:36:50 you've signed your own extensions and people to your own extensions.
00:36:53 You're not tied to anything long term.
00:36:55 So the ability to go in and get more there is great.
00:36:58 >> Hopefully in time for your franchise quarterback of the future to ascend to
00:37:03 a place where they are your every down starter and ready to go and
00:37:08 ready to rock around them.
00:37:09 Does the draft change your perception in any way on whether or
00:37:13 not Drake may could be a day one starter if you are able to protect him better and
00:37:18 put some things around him?
00:37:20 >> I think the only thing keeping Drake May from being a starter is his
00:37:23 development.
00:37:24 If he can play, he'll play.
00:37:26 I don't think this, we saw what he did with a bad supporting cast.
00:37:29 I don't think the Patriots have a bad supporting cast, or had.
00:37:31 I think they had a mid supporting cast.
00:37:33 And now you get Jalen Polk and Javon Baker who are guys who can win downfield,
00:37:37 probably more so than Kendrick Bourne, KJ Osborne, and Juju, whatever.
00:37:42 So yeah, I still don't think that this had anything to do with Drake May.
00:37:46 I think Drake May is gonna control what he gets on the field.
00:37:49 >> Yeah, I totally agree.
00:37:50 It's Jacoby's job, let him grow wide receiver.
00:37:53 It doesn't really matter.
00:37:54 I mean, I don't think it's a we can't surround him with stuff problem.
00:37:59 I think it's a we need him to develop into our next quarterback problem.
00:38:02 So until he's ready, it doesn't really matter what's around him.
00:38:04 I mean, it matters, but I don't think that's gonna be,
00:38:06 that's gonna, I don't think that's what's gonna hinder him playing or not.
00:38:09 >> Yeah, and to this comment from Valiant Patriot, and thank you guys.
00:38:13 There's a ton of you in here right now.
00:38:15 It's a beautiful Saturday, at least where we are.
00:38:17 And we're sitting here and we're talking obscure fourth round draft picks for
00:38:21 the Patriots.
00:38:21 And there's a ton of you in here right now.
00:38:24 >> People still care about this game.
00:38:25 >> In addition to what we have on Twitter, 1,400 people here hanging out on our
00:38:29 YouTube channel, talking about Patriots and
00:38:31 getting a little bit excited right now, and I think I like that.
00:38:35 I like to see it, right?
00:38:36 You know what, Taylor?
00:38:37 I'm gonna use Taylor as the poster child of what a bad,
00:38:41 what something like last year can do to someone, okay?
00:38:45 If you looked at before and after pictures of day one on the beat and
00:38:48 then the last day, my God, this poor guy.
00:38:51 It's like I said, it's like every American president after year one who's like,
00:38:56 holy crap, this job is hard.
00:38:58 It was like, poor Taylor.
00:39:01 This was soul sucking and energy sapping this past season.
00:39:08 And you want a teeny bit of light and hope.
00:39:17 And so I think that gives it yesterday and thank you very much.
00:39:20 SHT happens for saying that we love you guys too.
00:39:24 And thank you very much.
00:39:26 We love the coverage.
00:39:27 You know why?
00:39:28 You know why we like, why do we like doing this?
00:39:30 Because if we weren't doing it here for you guys,
00:39:33 we'd be doing it somewhere else just with each other.
00:39:35 And just talking about it because we're excited about it like you guys are.
00:39:39 So it is fun to get out here and to talk about it and
00:39:42 to watch Taylor bop around and to see the guy a little bit happy.
00:39:45 >> Three of my offensive guys, so I'm happy and you're happy.
00:39:50 >> I'm not always crying.
00:39:52 I'm the voice of reason.
00:39:53 >> No, but it's deep though.
00:39:54 Yesterday, last year was defense, but they actually addressed offensive.
00:39:56 They got guys I actually liked.
00:39:58 I had, obviously I love Drake, but I had Jalen Polk and
00:40:01 Javon Baker on my board, my big board for guys I like.
00:40:04 Obviously, the offensive tackle guy or the offensive line guys were surprises to me.
00:40:09 But hey, if they like them, I am the first to admit offensive line is not my area of
00:40:14 expertise, I do my best like anybody else, but-
00:40:16 >> That's what you get Bedard for.
00:40:18 Bedard's there scouting guards.
00:40:20 I can't wait, we're waiting for Bedard's take here and see what he says.
00:40:24 So that's great.
00:40:25 >> Patriots.com already has Javon Baker on the Patriots roster.
00:40:29 [LAUGH] I was just looking at, yeah, I was just looking at,
00:40:32 take a look at their current wide receiver room and I refreshed.
00:40:36 And Javon Baker's at the top of the wide, not the top of the wide receiver depth,
00:40:39 but they are moving quickly to get him on the team.
00:40:42 That's kind of hilarious cuz with Belichick, and
00:40:45 I don't know how much it really matters, but
00:40:47 that's something that they would not be on this website for like five days.
00:40:52 >> Now, we're not quite there and
00:40:53 I don't wanna go into your full five through seven previews.
00:40:56 We'll kind of let this marinate for a little bit longer, but
00:40:59 I will say, without a fifth round pick, I mean, once upon a time,
00:41:04 this regime would start to look at, even at this point in the draft,
00:41:11 special teamers.
00:41:12 We know there are special teams rules which might change a little bit the value
00:41:16 of them, but I have always been of the philosophy,
00:41:20 give me a freaking break with drafting special teams players.
00:41:23 Outside of returners, just have your backups play special teams and
00:41:27 coach them up well.
00:41:28 The idea that you're grabbing people just to play special teams drives me insane.
00:41:33 But what kind of dart throws can you make in later rounds?
00:41:36 And I'll throw them out there right now while we talk about it.
00:41:38 What kind of dart throws can you throw in later rounds?
00:41:40 I'll throw up Taylor's board here.
00:41:44 If the Patriots somehow find their way into round five,
00:41:46 which seems unlikely given that they don't have a lot of currency,
00:41:49 some players that might be available late.
00:41:51 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:41:54 >> So Eric Hall is a guy who he's kind of probably gonna slip because of injuries.
00:41:59 He's had, I think, two or three season ending injuries which are significant.
00:42:02 But he is a really good athlete.
00:42:05 He can play wide, he can play different positions, he can block pretty well.
00:42:08 But he's a really talented receiver, so he excites me.
00:42:11 Tina McLaughlin's a guy who I think he's older and
00:42:13 he's got some refinement he still needs.
00:42:15 But I think he's gonna have a long and successful NFL career.
00:42:18 He's really reliable, great hands, big target.
00:42:21 He's okay as a blocker, I think he needs to add some size there.
00:42:25 But he's got good adjustment ability and he's pretty tough after the catch.
00:42:28 He's not elusive, but he's tough.
00:42:29 Bub Means, probably lesser now.
00:42:32 I think now the wide receiver room is getting pretty crowded, but
00:42:35 I still like him.
00:42:35 There's the connection with Taekwon Underwood who he coached for
00:42:38 two years at Pitt.
00:42:39 He's a ball winning ex kind of receiver.
00:42:42 Travis Glover, I'd still love them to target him.
00:42:44 He's a guy who has left and right tackle and guard flexibility.
00:42:47 Loved him at the senior bowl, really patient.
00:42:50 Not the quickest feet, but he has good length and he's patient.
00:42:53 Honestly, kind of like Caden Wallace.
00:42:54 And Kamal Hayden's a guy who had a season ending injury last season pretty early.
00:42:58 But a super talented cornerback who's probably gonna slide because of those
00:43:01 injuries.
00:43:03 >> That's yours, I'll throw up Mike's five through seven here, yep.
00:43:09 >> Yeah, so I mean we can, yeah, okay, here we go.
00:43:13 So also on Bub Means, again, it's another quote unquote dark throw that I keep
00:43:17 using because, especially now, they already have their two receivers.
00:43:23 I don't see them going with a third, but Christian, okay, so
00:43:26 I'm gonna probably have to reset this board, quite frankly,
00:43:29 once we get back into this, once we hop on our second stream.
00:43:31 Because Christian Mahogany, offensive guard, high upside,
00:43:35 who can kind of also play some center.
00:43:37 But the Patriots just drafted Leighton Robinson, so
00:43:39 I don't know if they're gonna go there.
00:43:41 Kyrie Jackson was already selected cornerback out of Oregon.
00:43:45 So he went higher than a guy like Cam Hart, who I have on my round four board.
00:43:49 So we can maybe bump him down depending on if he goes.
00:43:51 But Isaac Arendo, combine freak, running back from Louisville,
00:43:55 knocked all of the measurables out of the park and
00:44:01 all the on field stuff.
00:44:02 So he's a guy who can add to your running back room because, look,
00:44:05 we have Ramondre Stevenson, Antonio Gibson, and that's really it.
00:44:10 Like, Jermichael Hays is on the team.
00:44:11 >> I think they need a running back here.
00:44:13 >> They need a running back.
00:44:14 >> Yeah. >> So that's a position they can look at.
00:44:17 And then an edge rusher in Eric Watts, who he's from Yukon.
00:44:20 Now that's more sixth round, seventh round, take a swing and
00:44:23 see if you can hit on someone.
00:44:24 Local kid from Yukon who I think has some upside.
00:44:27 But now that again, wide receiver has been taken and offensive lineman has been
00:44:31 taken again, I'm gonna sort of shift off of Mahogany and Bub Means and sort of.
00:44:36 At this point, you can take defenders and you can be happy about it.
00:44:38 And those can be luxury picks because you've now taken five offensive players
00:44:41 at the first five picks.
00:44:43 >> Excellent.
00:44:43 All right, so we'll talk a little bit more before we go.
00:44:47 And again, we're still waiting for the Patriots to announce that the picks are
00:44:50 made available so these guys can go talk.
00:44:52 We'll tell you guys at home real quick about our sponsor here for
00:44:56 our Patriots NFL draft coverage and

00:45:50 Guys, Taylor, what are you working on right now?
00:45:52 I'm always wondering what's he doing over there?
00:45:55 Okay, you look so cool, what's he doing?
00:45:57 >> I just like that they really did stick to what they said they were gonna do and
00:46:00 are giving Drake Mayhill.
00:46:02 That Elliott Wolfe said our priority is supporting this guy,
00:46:05 which they didn't do with Mac Jones.
00:46:09 And they're living up to it.
00:46:10 They got two offensive linemen, which are two positions of need for them.
00:46:13 He said he wanted to shore it up, he wanted to add competition.
00:46:16 And they got two legitimate weapons.
00:46:18 That's what's exciting for me.
00:46:20 And this is another one of those where it's like, if you wanna switch the roles.
00:46:23 Some people thought Javon Baker was a second round talent because of his upside,
00:46:26 probably dropped because of his inconsistencies and some question marks there.
00:46:29 And they got two good offensive linemen with experience.
00:46:32 Now, those guys still, I think, need some technique work.
00:46:35 And that is gonna decide how quickly they can play and
00:46:37 how successful they're gonna be.
00:46:39 But I mean, I don't really know how you can be upset with what they've done so
00:46:42 far, especially because Javon Baker with the value is what really puts this draft
00:46:47 class over the top for me because you could argue like they could have gotten AD or
00:46:51 whatever.
00:46:51 But I mean, we don't know how he was ranked on their board and
00:46:55 Javon Foster is objectively a very good player.
00:46:58 So- >> It's just the reachiness.
00:47:02 It's just the reachiness of it.
00:47:03 And again, you're putting up the linemen here and again,
00:47:06 just looking at this board.
00:47:07 This is what they've done in the last couple of years.
00:47:10 It's a lot at this range.
00:47:12 Third round Caden Wallace and then Leighton Robinson this year.
00:47:16 Both guys that maybe were projected to even be around lower.
00:47:20 And again, these are not your typical third round picks.
00:47:22 These are pretty high up there.
00:47:24 I mean, picks high in those rounds, high third, high fourth.
00:47:28 And then Andrews, Sidiso, Antonio Maffi.
00:47:31 Who's a keeper here?
00:47:32 I mean, you have the two new guys from last year's batch.
00:47:35 And again, that's not even to discuss Cole Strange,
00:47:38 who we just don't talk about as a first round pick in 2022.
00:47:42 That's an insane amount of capital for a lot of guys who profile primarily as
00:47:47 interior offensive linemen with the caveat that they, Caden Wallace,
00:47:52 they're telling us right tackle, left tackle.
00:47:55 But I think on this roster, it's much more likely he profiles a guard.
00:47:59 As I said, they might hope it's something else.
00:48:02 This looks like five interior linemen to me.
00:48:06 >> Yep.
00:48:06 >> And removing these two, who from last year is a rock solid keeper?
00:48:11 >> Sidiso.
00:48:12 >> Yeah, Sidiso is solid.
00:48:14 >> He was one of the, he would have- >> I'm just asking, I'm not mad.
00:48:19 >> I'm saying he was inconsistent, but you would see-
00:48:22 >> [CROSSTALK]
00:48:24 >> PFF would give him an 80 plus grade
00:48:26 in one of those departments every single week.
00:48:29 And when I talked to him at the end of the season, he was like, yeah,
00:48:31 I think I did pretty well considering I spent the entire summer at offensive
00:48:34 tackle.
00:48:35 So I think Sidiso is someone they should see as a developmental piece.
00:48:38 I've been saying that since the season.
00:48:39 And I mean, Jake Andrews had, I thought, a solid,
00:48:42 limited performance against the Bills.
00:48:44 Wasn't great against the Jets, but that was just such a weird game, period.
00:48:48 I don't really hold it against him too much.
00:48:50 Will, it's still an unknown though.
00:48:52 And then Antonio Maffi, again, he needs to take a big jump if he's,
00:48:56 I think, gonna continue to be in their long term plans.
00:48:59 And he was kind of like more of a Belichick pick maybe.
00:49:02 Depending on whether, if they wanna maybe go downhill more,
00:49:05 like because of Mike Nguyen, then I think he's got a good shot.
00:49:09 But really, if they do wanna go with more of the wide zone stuff,
00:49:12 I don't think he's a very good fit for their offense now.
00:49:14 So I think at the end of the day, you have one guy who is gonna be a starter.
00:49:19 You have Jake Andrews, who you're hoping, but even still, he's a center.
00:49:22 So Caden Wallace, worst case scenario, he's a right tackle.
00:49:27 And then you kick Mike Nguyen back inside, and
00:49:29 you get your left tackle either next year in free agency.
00:49:32 You spend money on a guy now that you've got a solid offensive base that people
00:49:35 might wanna actually invest in.
00:49:36 Or you draft them high, because now, I'm curious if they,
00:49:40 Javon Baker ideally becomes your wide receiver one.
00:49:42 If he hits his ceiling, he can be that guy.
00:49:45 So maybe you don't need to draft a receiver in the first round next year.
00:49:49 Maybe you're like, all right, we'll get our left tackle,
00:49:51 the guy with great arm length that no one's gonna complain about.
00:49:54 And you're good.
00:49:55 And again, they still have four, left tackle wasn't a glaring position of need,
00:49:59 as much as I think people made it out to be.
00:50:01 If they disagree, that's fine.
00:50:03 But I think as long as- >> You have options.
00:50:06 >> You have options.
00:50:06 I think this was the thing, Taylor and Mike, and
00:50:10 this is kind of what I felt, is you had three picks.
00:50:14 And realistically, you were only gonna be able to get two premium players
00:50:20 at the three positions of greatest need, and you knew the first one was quarterback.
00:50:26 So you really had to make your choice, tackle versus receiver in that second slot
00:50:31 as the need, and they decided to go receiver.
00:50:35 And then that pushes everything else way down the board.
00:50:37 The idea that you're finding a left tackle lower than the second round,
00:50:43 a starting left tackle, guarantee walk in the door and
00:50:46 you're the starting left tackle, is honestly close to zero.
00:50:49 And again, that's why the Caden Wallace pick, regardless of what they say,
00:50:52 is hopeful.
00:50:53 You don't get those guys there.
00:50:56 So it makes sense to say, we went one, two at those positions last year.
00:51:03 Tackle would certainly be something that's high up there on that list.
00:51:06 And then you wanna start, you wanna get into a point where you are drafting best
00:51:10 available because you're just trying to get better.
00:51:13 But when your needs are so glaring, you have no choice.
00:51:17 So yeah, finding a wide receiver one, a QB one, and
00:51:20 a left tackle in one draft is honestly close to impossible.
00:51:24 And so I think those expectations may be why people were looking for
00:51:28 home run hits.
00:51:30 Cuz the AD Mitchell is, what if you did just get the fifth best receiver in
00:51:33 the draft in the second round?
00:51:34 You can talk yourself into that.
00:51:36 But once you go receiver in that second round, I think everyone had to kinda get
00:51:40 out of this notion that they're finding a starting left tackle anywhere in this draft.
00:51:44 Taylor, it seems like you wanna react to something, so go ahead.
00:51:48 >> Yeah, no, just the question, would you like, whoa, that whistle.
00:51:51 >> You don't like him there, you like him at center though.
00:51:54 >> Yeah, I do like him at center, cuz left tackle, I feel like,
00:51:57 it's an even bigger projection.
00:51:58 He hasn't played that since college, which was-
00:52:01 >> He doesn't have the base.
00:52:03 >> Right, yeah, I don't think I like that.
00:52:05 That'd be such a, I feel like that's a huge stretch.
00:52:08 Now, if Layden Robinson ends up being your left guard and
00:52:12 Cole Strange is your center of the future, that's something I could get down with.
00:52:17 I think that's where you kinda maximize the current offense that you, or
00:52:21 the current roster that you have, cuz Cole Strange is a better player, I think.
00:52:23 >> If Cole Strange can stay healthy and
00:52:25 be your center for the next five or six years, it ultimately,
00:52:29 call me crazy, may make that 29th pick semi worth it.
00:52:34 Right now, everybody's down on it, but if he can switch gears and
00:52:37 become a solid center for you and stay healthy, center's so important.
00:52:41 And now granted, the ones they've had in the last couple years have been relatively
00:52:44 easy finds, like David Andrews, Brian Stork.
00:52:47 Who was the other guy?
00:52:49 Some kid from Florida State, I can't think of his name,
00:52:51 he won one of the- >> I know who you're talking about.
00:52:54 >> Yeah, but regardless, those guys have been undrafted seventh round guys.
00:52:58 So to say that now you're gonna have a first rounder be it, but whatever,
00:53:02 that's Belichick's thinking blah, blah, blah.
00:53:04 So if they move him to center and it works,
00:53:07 I'm ultimately okay with the 29th pick that we pick on that.
00:53:09 >> Tracy, fifth year option for a project, he's gotta prove something this year.
00:53:11 >> True.
00:53:12 >> Figure out where that goes.
00:53:13 I think more likely, if you're not a stud at that position, he might just be.
00:53:21 But we'll see this year.
00:53:22 You have competition and you have bodies that you could throw out there.
00:53:26 As far as this pick goes, Javon Baker, now you've thrown Javon Baker with
00:53:29 Jalen Polk, and you look at the overall wide receiver room that they have.
00:53:34 And let's look at what they've got here.
00:53:36 >> [CROSSTALK] >> What in the world is that, my friend?
00:53:44 >> Wasn't me, it's a crowded room.
00:53:46 >> Somehow, somehow audio was attached to this.
00:53:49 Is this Amit's draft party that he's doing work from?
00:53:52 >> [LAUGH] >> I missed that,
00:53:54 I didn't even hear it, I don't know what happened.
00:53:56 >> [CROSSTALK] >> Look at this.
00:53:59 Just look at the room, look at the room here.
00:54:03 On this team, the automatics are obviously Bourne and DeMario,
00:54:08 and the two receivers you just picked in the second and fourth round.
00:54:12 Javon Baker- >> And
00:54:13 TJ Osborne cuz you just signed him.
00:54:15 >> And Javon Baker would have to puke all over himself to not make
00:54:18 the roster but you could have one of those medical red shirt sort of years on
00:54:22 a rookie.
00:54:23 Baker might be a candidate for that if Polk is a second one, but
00:54:26 you're assuming those two are safe.
00:54:29 I mean, Rieger obviously unlikely and Osborne, as you said,
00:54:33 you just brought him in.
00:54:34 And all of a sudden got crowded.
00:54:36 This is I think some people's concern.
00:54:38 It got crowded with a whole lot of mid with again,
00:54:40 the possibility that Polk and Baker could separate themselves from the pack.
00:54:44 And DeMario Douglas after a year, I think is going to really surprise people.
00:54:49 I don't think there's a true one in this group, but
00:54:52 there's people who might change your mind on it.
00:54:56 That being said, how does someone like Taekwon Thornton make this team next year?
00:55:01 >> He needs to- >> I mean, Juju Smith,
00:55:03 Juju is gone.
00:55:05 And Taekwon came in friggin buff this year, which is great.
00:55:08 But we know Juju, there's not a spot here for.
00:55:12 I hate the idea that you're gonna let four to walk out the door,
00:55:16 sprint out the door, whatever, but you might have to.
00:55:19 Yeah, I hate that.
00:55:21 But he's got to show something, right?
00:55:24 >> But if Taekwon does prove in camp that he is a legit burner and
00:55:29 lives up to that potential, he makes the roster.
00:55:31 He probably kicks off, KJ Osborne isn't a guarantee, he's on a one year deal.
00:55:35 So maybe he's just a great locker room presence to have early on.
00:55:39 But yeah, I mean, if Taekwon does give you that element of your offense that you
00:55:42 don't have, the only guy who can even come close to that is Javon Baker.
00:55:45 And he's not Taekwon Thornton-faxed.
00:55:48 So I don't think Keyshawn Booty's safe.
00:55:50 I don't think KJ Osborne's safe.
00:55:52 I don't think Jalen Rager's safe.
00:55:53 >> I don't- >> Or Juju, obviously.
00:55:57 >> I both can't stand everything I've seen from Taekwon Thornton.
00:56:02 Didn't like the pick to have it.
00:56:04 I actually liked him for a few weeks in his first camp,
00:56:09 when he did turn some heads.
00:56:11 And then he just, well, he got hurt.
00:56:13 And then he came back and he looked nothing like that guy at any point in time,
00:56:17 including last year's camp, just invisible.
00:56:20 And I don't know what happened there, but there was a flash early where they're like,
00:56:24 this guy's catching everything thrown his way.
00:56:26 He looks good.
00:56:27 I saw he looked good, and then he didn't.
00:56:30 And then you see, you've got that famous clip of him trying to run that
00:56:35 little out route where he just kinda rounds it out.
00:56:38 I mean, it just blew up and everyone's like,
00:56:41 this is the worst route I've ever seen anyone run in my life.
00:56:45 >> And I asked him about his route running.
00:56:47 And again, everybody respects Troy Brown, but
00:56:50 there's a reason that he was demoted or moved to a different position.
00:56:53 I asked Taekwon, I was like, do you have freedom in your routes?
00:56:56 Because sometimes it seems like you and the quarterbacks aren't on the same page.
00:56:59 He's like, yeah, no, I do.
00:57:00 Like coach lets me use my speed and all that stuff.
00:57:03 And I'm just like, bro, you've barely been on a field.
00:57:06 A coach should not be telling you.
00:57:08 Yeah, just use your- >> Just get there.
00:57:11 Get there. I don't care how you get there.
00:57:13 Right. >> Give the guy structure and
00:57:15 then let him be creative.
00:57:16 Don't tell a guy who's played less than 200 NFL snaps to just use his speed when
00:57:21 he doesn't know how to do it yet.
00:57:22 Or at least I think he showed he could in college, but
00:57:24 clearly it didn't translate because he was going so,
00:57:27 like running those college option routes, you know, Mike.
00:57:29 Where the guy basically just like, and
00:57:33 then is the fifth read in the progression by the time he breaks out.
00:57:36 Like, yeah, it was wild.
00:57:37 >> That shit is not gonna fly in this offense.
00:57:43 So if that's what he tries to do in camp, I'm sorry, it's just not.
00:57:47 And if that's what he tries to do in camp, he's not going to make the team.
00:57:52 He not only needs to continue bulking up and stay healthy, but
00:57:57 he has to understand what they're gonna run on offense.
00:57:59 This style of play, it's a very intricate,
00:58:05 if you will, offense that Van Pelt wants to run with these quarterbacks and
00:58:08 these wide receivers.
00:58:09 Taylor, we talked about it with Van Pelt and
00:58:11 we've talked about it on Pats Daily several times.
00:58:14 And sometimes I hate doing this, but
00:58:16 I'm going to use my own experience playing football.
00:58:19 Now it's division three quarterback, so it's not the NFL, but we brought in.
00:58:24 We have Laden Robinson on Zoom now, so I can get to this later.
00:58:29 >> Everyone's joining now.
00:58:30 >> You wanna jump on now, Mike?
00:58:32 >> Yeah, I'm gonna jump on, so I'll bounce.
00:58:34 >> Taylor, do you wanna jump on too?
00:58:35 You wanna hang here and just have Mike go?
00:58:37 Taylor, why don't you stay back with Laden and jump on for Javon, okay?
00:58:44 That way we can keep the party going a little bit.
00:58:47 Hold on, you gotta speak.
00:58:50 I can't hear your complaints if you're muted.
00:58:53 [LAUGH] >> Because the chat was in the back.
00:58:56 I mean, I have questions for both of them, I'd like to-
00:58:57 >> All right, jump on in, jump on in,
00:58:59 jump on in.
00:58:59 So these guys will jump in.
00:59:01 I don't know if we'll still be here.
00:59:02 I'm gonna try to filibuster as best I can for that for a little bit.
00:59:08 Ahmed, is this what we have, Javon Baker, IG Live, is that what it is?
00:59:12 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:59:14 I'll give it a shot.
00:59:16 Let's see what we got here.
00:59:17 I'm gonna put this on the stage.
00:59:18 Here it is.
00:59:19 >> [CROSSTALK] >> He's gotta pay, he's gotta pay.
00:59:23 He's gotta pay, he's gotta pay.
00:59:25 >> Took too long.
00:59:27 It took too long for them all.
00:59:28 >> What is it?
00:59:30 >> You all finna pay?
00:59:31 >> That tells me nothing.
00:59:36 [LAUGH]
00:59:37 They're gonna pay?
00:59:39 Well, seems like a little chip on the shoulder sort of player here
00:59:44 that they got here in the four slot at 110.
00:59:48 And you like that, right?
00:59:52 You like those guys who kind of come in like all of you.
00:59:56 And is that what he was saying, Ahmed?
00:59:58 They're gonna pay?
00:59:58 Is that kind of the thought was like, everyone who passed,
01:00:01 I'm gonna show them something?
01:00:02 31 teams finna pay, yeah.
01:00:08 That's it.
01:00:09 I kind of like that.
01:00:10 It's Brady Six sort of mentality, right?
01:00:13 Like, okay, I'm gonna hunt each of you down, and
01:00:17 I'm gonna show you exactly what happened.
01:00:19 So sure, I like it.
01:00:22 I like that type of attitude here as well.
01:00:27 Checking out here, pick 120.
01:00:29 As we said, the Patriots don't have anything in the fifth round.
01:00:33 So it is possible we take a little break, we peace out for a little bit.
01:00:39 Come back later, maybe at the beginning of sixth round, and we'll reset.
01:00:42 We'll see where they are.
01:00:44 We'll maybe take you through a couple of those six round picks.
01:00:46 We'll hear from some of the players and get their reaction and
01:00:49 see how they're doing and what they had to say.
01:00:52 And again, we are gonna also hear from Elliott Wolfe and
01:00:55 Gerard Mayo later in the day.
01:00:57 We'll try to bring that for you as well.
01:00:58 Any comments here, any questions we wanna talk out here?
01:01:01 Thank you, yeah.
01:01:02 Yeah, I like that.
01:01:06 Use that anger, bro.
01:01:08 I like that.
01:01:08 I do wonder, we put this one up here again in this wide receiver room.
01:01:14 No one's talking about him.
01:01:16 I don't have any idea what's going on with Keijan Boutte and
01:01:19 his legal problems, or what he's doing at all.
01:01:24 We haven't heard a freaking thing about that.
01:01:26 But I can't see this guy hanging around on the roster as well.
01:01:34 I just can't see it happening.
01:01:35 And 100%, I'm glad you put this up here.
01:01:39 And I'm glad the people, I'm glad the long term and long time listeners,
01:01:45 viewers, followers here of CLNS Media, whether it be the Garden Report or
01:01:49 our Patriots coverage, understands the value of Ahmet.
01:01:55 Ahmet hasn't slept, guys.
01:01:58 He hasn't slept.
01:02:00 Sorry, he hasn't.
01:02:06 He's been up all night in service of the viewers and the fans,
01:02:12 and doing the Lord's work here, and editing podcasts, and editing this stuff.
01:02:18 And keeping us basically on the air.
01:02:21 Our job is easy.
01:02:22 Ahmet's the one who's grinding behind the scenes.
01:02:24 So everyone, please, hats off for Ahmet.
01:02:26 Without Ahmet, the lights go out.
01:02:29 In addition to that, I wanna give a shout out to Joey Capone behind the scenes,
01:02:35 doing a ton of other stuff for us as well.
01:02:36 Also terrific podcast that he's got, the ITM Red Sox podcast, which you can find,
01:02:42 for those of you who are Red Sox fans, over on our Red Sox YouTube channel,
01:02:48 Red Sox Clubhouse.
01:02:49 Joey also does a Bruins pod, very knowledgeable guy.
01:02:53 And yeah, poor Ahmet's got the Celtics tonight too, as well.
01:02:56 So it's an all-nighter.
01:02:57 We gotta take a break.
01:02:58 So this guy, we can't kill Ahmet, right?
01:03:02 We must protect, maybe more important than protecting Drake May is protecting Ahmet.
01:03:08 So we have to do that.
01:03:10 But we have a lot more coming up on the draft stuff, which we know.
01:03:14 We will jump on here.
01:03:17 Let's tentatively say sixth round.
01:03:19 We'll try to take you through a little bit.
01:03:21 We'll see where they're at with it.
01:03:23 But we also have, as you know, the Garden Report later on tonight.
01:03:28 So for those of you who are Celtics fans and you wanna check that out, absolutely.
01:03:34 Get on it.
01:03:34 Garden Report tonight after game three, Celtics heat.
01:03:37 Ton of stuff.
01:03:38 And honestly, we haven't done enough advertising for it, but
01:03:41 there's an awesome post-game show on CLNS Media as well with Evan Marinovsky and
01:03:46 Carl Corzine doing a Bruins post.
01:03:49 And they play tonight in a pivotal game four with the Bruins up 2-1.
01:03:53 So the sports coverage never stops here, and
01:03:56 we'll be grinding it out the whole way through.
01:03:59 But there's a lot, lot, lot, lot, lot more draft coverage to come.
01:04:02 So we'll make sure that we bring it to you, as we said, after Taylor and
01:04:06 Mike get done with those guys.
01:04:07 Ahmet, let me know, is he talking still?
01:04:09 If those guys can jump back on, I might hang for a minute to get their thoughts.
01:04:13 But if it's still slow going, I'll hang up and we'll come back later.
01:04:21 Any word?
01:04:22 Still going.
01:04:25 We'll hang out a little bit.
01:04:26 We'll hang out.
01:04:27 Maybe we can catch one of them.
01:04:28 Let me know when it ends.
01:04:29 If I can get Mike or Taylor back on here, rather than shutting it down,
01:04:32 cuz there's a ton of people in here,
01:04:33 we might be able to keep it going a little bit longer as well.
01:04:39 So as we said, more draft coverage, Celtics, Heat tonight,
01:04:44 Bruins and the Leafs tonight,
01:04:49 Garden Report live immediately after the game.
01:04:57 Make sure you join us, Bobby Manning and Josue Pavone are hanging out in Miami.
01:05:01 As we said, Bobby never, ever, ever, ever, ever misses a trip to Miami.
01:05:07 I threw this out here earlier, Thomas, and I am curious.
01:05:11 I think it's good strategy to spend a late round pick on a quarterback a lot.
01:05:20 Especially in this draft, look what happened.
01:05:26 And I know it's like, you don't want Drake May looking over his shoulder.
01:05:29 And imagine if you did take a Spencer Rattler here in the fourth round.
01:05:32 [COUGH] That's kind of the next guy on the board.
01:05:36 There's a big dip here, right?
01:05:40 There's a big gap.
01:05:41 People took their early ones and
01:05:42 then everyone's trying to load up on other positions.
01:05:44 And that just kind of shows there's a lot of needs and
01:05:46 there's a lot of teams that are trying to still address them directly right now.
01:05:50 But this is around the point in the draft where you do start taking those flyers.
01:05:54 And yeah, I know they've got Zappy.
01:05:57 As Mike said, They caught him already.
01:06:03 They caught him when they didn't have a franchise quarterback.
01:06:11 They caught him for nothing.
01:06:13 They caught him and they brought in three guys that nobody else wanted and
01:06:16 said, please, I dare you to possibly be better than Bailey Zappy.
01:06:23 They wanted nothing to do with him.
01:06:24 And then he ended up starting but that was really a referendum on Mac.
01:06:27 Nothing to do with Zappy being good because he's not good.
01:06:32 And I think anyone saying that we have Zappy, that doesn't mean anything.
01:06:38 I think if Zappy gets let go by the Patriots, it's very likely
01:06:42 he's at best a practice squad player somewhere else.
01:06:45 He's not a roster lock sort of player.
01:06:49 He's just there.
01:06:51 So you are absolutely going to look for, whether it's this year,
01:06:55 next year, a legit backup to Drake May.
01:06:59 And yeah, you can always sign your Jacoby Bresets out there.
01:07:02 I don't know that you always wanna be spending eight, nine,
01:07:04 $10 million on backups.
01:07:07 I think if you can draft somebody who you think has potential upside,
01:07:12 and the best case scenario is you draft someone who you can Matt Castle,
01:07:16 Jimmy Garoppolo your way into an asset down the road.
01:07:20 They serve as a backup here, but they might actually have a little bit of juice
01:07:24 and you might turn them into something.
01:07:26 You're never gonna do that too.
01:07:27 So I wouldn't have been shocked if they used one here.
01:07:30 And I honestly, if they had a fifth round pick,
01:07:32 I think that would have been something they could have considered.
01:07:36 By six, I don't think you're looking at Spencer Rattler land, but
01:07:39 you are looking at some other players here that might be considered.
01:07:43 So yeah, so that's that.
01:07:48 Ahmed, keep me honest here.
01:07:49 Let me know if there's a chance of those guys dropping on, I'll hang.
01:07:52 But if not, we'll shut it down.
01:07:54 They finished.
01:07:55 All right, I'm gonna hang a little bit, see if I can catch one of those guys in.
01:07:58 We'll just get a little debrief on the comments.
01:08:00 Once again, the Patriots today, and I'll put up the big board here.
01:08:08 Here's the direction that they went.
01:08:09 And let me get this off the screen because we don't wanna let you know about
01:08:14 that anymore.
01:08:15 We know Drake May, Jalen Polk, Caden Wallace, day two picks,
01:08:20 Polk and Wallace, Drake May going third overall.
01:08:22 Leighton Robinson took the air out of everybody's sails a little bit.
01:08:28 A guard with some technique issues, with some limitations.
01:08:34 We've seen some reports from people who really like him.
01:08:37 Talked about whether or not this is an indictment on
01:08:44 the state of the O-line currently, especially with some of the players
01:08:47 taken last year and then some of the ones that they have who might be aging out.
01:08:50 That was that.
01:08:54 They got scooped.
01:08:57 They got scooped on Franklin.
01:08:59 Reunited with Bo Nix as Denver jumped them at 102, so the Patriots at 103.
01:09:03 Took a guard.
01:09:05 Definitely kinda messed with people's minds a little bit.
01:09:08 And then, happy Taylor reaction.
01:09:11 We'll cue it up and play it back at some point.
01:09:15 Javon Baker, bang, they got the receiver that they wanted.
01:09:18 Their second fourth round pick.
01:09:21 This is the trade back pick.
01:09:23 So this is pretty cool.
01:09:24 Again, when you stack it up, instead of taking Polk at 34,
01:09:31 you got Polk and Baker at 34.
01:09:35 Which again, when you put it that way, Mike, we're talking-
01:09:39 >> You're gonna give you some company.
01:09:41 We have Baker coming up shortly, but didn't wanna leave you behind.
01:09:44 >> No, go for it.
01:09:45 Yeah, jump on.
01:09:46 I was about to go, but I figured we were just going on long enough and
01:09:50 I was promoting some of the stuff we have going on here.
01:09:52 I was just saying, the Baker pick, when you look at it with the trade,
01:09:56 instead of grabbing what you could have grabbed there or trading up a spot and
01:10:01 getting someone else, you ended up with basically Polk and
01:10:05 Baker as your second round picks because that's what you got there.
01:10:09 It's like stacking receivers.
01:10:11 And that's good value there when you think about being able to pick up another
01:10:16 receiver of at least highly regarded on your boards and other people's as well.
01:10:21 So again, there's some added value to the one trade that they did make.
01:10:26 Everyone else has been kind of stick and pick.
01:10:30 But you guys just heard from Leighton Rubbs, a good character guy,
01:10:33 let me guess, yeah?
01:10:35 >> He's nice.
01:10:35 >> Yeah.
01:10:36 >> He's really nice.
01:10:37 >> Super nice.
01:10:37 >> [LAUGH]
01:10:39 >> He's excited, so take it.
01:10:40 >> Nice guys win football games, no, I'm just kidding.
01:10:43 But no, he sounded competitive.
01:10:44 He was talking about when he did his visit and talked to Alex Van Pelt,
01:10:48 they liked how he got off the ball, how he got after people,
01:10:50 called himself a grinder.
01:10:52 I mean, that's clearly another theme with this class.
01:10:54 Like Javon Baker's also like a dog.
01:10:56 There was a video where he was working out with,
01:10:57 I think it was Tyreek Hill down in Florida or something like that.
01:11:00 Like he seems like a dude with an edge,
01:11:02 which I think is one thing that I didn't mention before.
01:11:05 I think that is missing in this receiver core.
01:11:07 Like Kendrick Bourne is high energy, Pops kinda quiet, does his thing.
01:11:10 Jalen Polk and Javon Baker, Baker more so feel like guys who do give you that kinda
01:11:16 like, especially Baker's like, don't piss him off.
01:11:19 And we saw, have we shown the video yet for Baker on Instagram?
01:11:22 I haven't gotten to see it yet.
01:11:23 >> We did, we did.
01:11:24 >> [INAUDIBLE]
01:11:25 >> I did, I had to fill space and time, so
01:11:29 I used all eight seconds of this Instagram video to fill some of that time
01:11:34 while you guys were going there.
01:11:35 And I'm spinning my wheels a little bit talking to these guys, here it is.
01:11:38 >> [CROSSTALK]
01:11:40 >> He's got to pay, he's got to pay,
01:11:43 he's got to pay, took too long, it took too long for them all.
01:11:48 >> What is it?
01:11:49 >> You all finna pay?
01:11:52 >> I like that, no one else on this show talks like that, I love that.
01:11:57 Give me an edge, let's go.
01:11:58 >> He's got some swag and he's already got a chip on his shoulder cuz he didn't want
01:12:03 to be, he invited everybody to the draft party yesterday, right?
01:12:08 He had to bring everybody back, he didn't want to do that.
01:12:11 >> That speaks with guys too, we talked about Edelman and Brady still remembers,
01:12:16 his whole, made him cry in that documentary.
01:12:19 These dudes remember when they have that moment where everyone's there celebrating
01:12:22 you and you have to have that awkward, God, I'm not getting a phone call and
01:12:26 it's the last picks already in.
01:12:27 So just give him another chip on his shoulder, man, I'm so happy.
01:12:32 This is my past day one Drake May pick where I'm just like, get your guy and
01:12:36 I'm telling you it's gonna work out cuz this guy's got really great upside.
01:12:41 [BLANK_AUDIO]
01:12:44 >> Yeah. >> Exciting stuff, we're back.
01:12:46 >> What else did you guys get from Wallace in the interview here other than
01:12:50 exciting?
01:12:50 And again, we'll hear from Wolf too in terms of how they project and
01:12:54 what they view and the reasoning behind the pick.
01:12:56 But anything else you could glean from that?
01:13:00 >> Sounded like he's willing to play just about everywhere.
01:13:03 Again, he's a guard, he's gonna play guard.
01:13:05 I don't see him playing tackle, I don't see him playing center.
01:13:07 But for what it's worth, he's a guy who just wants to help the team win.
01:13:10 And it's company line, it's the cliche stuff.
01:13:11 No one's gonna say, I'm only a guard, I'm only an ex receiver.
01:13:15 I'm on but like, and that's where the character comes in.
01:13:17 But yeah, that's kind of the other takeaway, I suppose.
01:13:21 >> Yeah, he's only really played a few snaps of guard in practice.
01:13:24 He said he's snapped a bit.
01:13:27 So the foundation, not foundation, but there is some maybe flexibility there.
01:13:32 But yeah, we'll see.
01:13:33 It's a lot of these offensive line picks,
01:13:34 if we're talking about them playing in places where they didn't in college.
01:13:37 A lot of these guys are projections cuz Robinson and
01:13:40 Wallace both played on the right side.
01:13:42 But with Scott Peters, that's I think the biggest thing is,
01:13:45 they're involving the coaches.
01:13:47 One thing in past years where I might have been a little more skeptical is if
01:13:51 the scouts or Belichick decided this and didn't really talk to who Adrian Klem or
01:13:55 Matt Patricia, although we know he was involved in that draw,
01:13:59 at least what was reported.
01:14:01 But if Scott Peters is like, yeah, I'll fix him.
01:14:03 I'll make sure they can play on the left side and they'll be able to be versatile.
01:14:06 I trust it.
01:14:06 That dude's got a lot of experience.
01:14:08 He's a smart coach.
01:14:09 >> Yeah, we are gonna hear from Javon Baker in a little bit.
01:14:12 So rather than these guys leave me high and dry.
01:14:15 Final thoughts here and guys, what do you think?
01:14:17 Maybe we pop on for round six and kind of see where we're at with that stuff and
01:14:20 see what's on the board.
01:14:21 That's what I think we're gonna do.
01:14:24 We'll take round five off because there's nothing doing as always.
01:14:28 Should we trade back in?
01:14:29 Should the Patriots trade in?
01:14:31 We'll jump in with you.
01:14:33 But right now we are at pick 124.
01:14:35 It's going fast, 180 for the Patriots.
01:14:37 Look for us maybe around 180 is where in the sixth round.
01:14:40 Does anybody know?
01:14:42 >> I think it's early.
01:14:42 >> Let's see.
01:14:45 [BLANK_AUDIO]
01:14:49 Let's see where we are.
01:14:50 It's round by round.
01:14:51 I'm gonna jump in here.
01:14:52 177 is the beginning of it.
01:14:55 We'll jump in right before the beginning of that sixth round.
01:14:57 End of the fifth, we'll jump on here and see where we're at.
01:15:00 Assess the board guys if you wanna kind of stockpile your lists of people.
01:15:04 In the meantime, I know you gotta go write up some quotes and
01:15:07 listen to Javon Baker.
