00:40 Patriots so far have made two picks one in offensive guard at number 103 and the second
00:45 one a good one UCF wide receiver Javon Baker with pick 110 the 61200 8 pound pass catcher
00:54 the former night down in Orlando coming to Foxborough being added the second wide receiver
00:59 they've taken so far in this draft class behind Jalen Polk on Friday night so instant reaction
01:05 Taylor when you see the Baker stuff happen you were obviously excited if you haven't
01:09 watched our live shows already but what do you make of the Patriots bringing this guy
01:13 in as a as a weapon to grow with Drake May yeah so when Jalen Polk was taken I was like
01:18 all right he probably projects to be your ex but I do like him better as a Z but he's
01:22 got that outside inside versatility now with Javon Baker another guy who does have inside
01:27 outside versatility but at UCF he was their ex he was one of the most productive players
01:33 in college last season when lined up as the isolated receiver we know Elliot Wolfe told
01:37 us before the draft we don't really have that guy who can line up on the backside of a three
01:42 by one and consistently exploit one-on-one coverage that's Javon Baker now the reason
01:47 he slipped I would have I was hoping that he would go with their first third round pick
01:50 I wouldn't have really been or I'm sorry in the third round initially and then I hope
01:54 he went in their first fourth round pick but it's even better value now there are legitimate
01:59 inconsistencies in his game where he has some really frustrating drops at times whether
02:04 it's focused or not finishing through contract contact he's inconsistent against press sometimes
02:09 to get bodied out and kind of taken out of the play at times is route running sometimes
02:14 will oversell routes but a lot of those things are technical like the hands a lot of the
02:18 time it's because rather than like flashing the triangle like you hear all the time who
02:22 kind of put his hands together which doesn't hurt which hurts and sometimes to let balls
02:25 get into his body so that's where a lot of that comes from but that's why you bring in
02:29 Taekwon Underwood to kind of shore those things up and help with the consistency but if he
02:33 reaches his ceiling this is a guy I think who has legit wide receiver one upside we
02:37 heard from him like the Patriots wide receiver core has a lot of really good guys they have
02:42 like Kendrick Bourne who has great energy Jalen Polk who was a leader at Washington
02:47 Javon Baker's a dog like he was saying some crazy stuff during the press conference and
02:52 it's that edge I think that the receiving core was lacking I think he has that mentality
02:56 to really be just a monster he makes some crazy catches he's got great body control
03:01 good catch radius and he'll make I mentioned it in our other shows he makes some crazy
03:05 like one-handed grabs where he'll just like spike a football that's outside of his frame
03:10 and he's a really good route runner he has a good release package he knows how to manipulate
03:15 defenders I mean you see it right there like he's got such great body control and his skill
03:20 set I mean off the fire I'm getting excited already but this is why I was excited I think
03:25 he can be a legit wide receiver one I think he pairs perfectly with Jalen Polk and now
03:30 DeMario Douglas can really be that true complimentary slot and they have a well-rounded young receiving
03:35 core I was thrilled about this man I love the attitude I love the physical profile he
03:39 just got to hone his skill set and kind of try to minimize some of the things that he's
03:44 not great at but if they can do that we're going to look back on this draft and say the
03:48 Patriots needed to knock some hits out of the park and really reestablish the culture
03:53 and the skill set in this offense especially we haven't seen a lot of success with drafted
03:57 wide receivers I really do feel like this draft class is going to be that that difference
04:02 yeah he does have that wide receiver one mentality where he like prove everyone wrong prove the
04:06 doubters wrong he before he even spoke with us he went on Instagram live and basically
04:10 said they took too long the league's gonna pay like you'll all be sorry that you didn't
04:16 take me this you know early enough and then of course the Patriots land him at 110 we
04:20 spoke with Polk who also talked about his mentality and was asked about his skill set
04:24 as a pass cutter so I'm gonna if we can pull that up
04:37 so I mean you see it right there confidence excitement get your popcorn ready bring the
04:41 popcorn to the stadium a guy who we talked about the character that they brought in and
04:46 like you know guys who can be leaders this is like this is a little bit of a different
04:51 guy than we've seen with Polk and you know Drake May so far but obviously a guy who you
04:56 know loves the game loves to compete and is excited to join a guy like Drake May who we
05:00 also mentioned during his time at Alabama before transferring to UCF already has worked
05:05 with Drake May in the past with in throwing session so they have a familiarity together
05:08 as well it kind of like for an X-Men comp for 30 fans there it kind of reminds me of
05:13 like Jalen Polk is Cyclops and then Javon Baker's Wolverine where Cyclops is like the
05:19 guy who's going to do everything you want to do he's hyper reliable and he is the leader
05:23 and I think that's what Jalen Polk's probably going to be in that group you know once some
05:26 of the older guys leave and they really take over and Javon Baker like we saw Wolverine
05:31 he's kind of he's way more edgy he's been the face of the franchise at points but really
05:36 he's at his best when he's kind of on the side piece and he can do really his role that's
05:40 what kind of Javon Baker reminds me of he's not the leader maybe but he is that guy where
05:45 you look at him and you're like I like what he brings to the table just brings that real
05:49 physical and kind of nastiness I love this pair those those two guys they're different
05:54 kind of personalities and skill sets but they're very complimentary.
05:57 Three new offensive weapons for the Patriots heading into 2024 in Drake May Jalen Polk
06:02 and Javon Baker the latest of course being Baker so Taylor we've done it for the first
06:06 couple picks we do it with Baker now grade it what do you make Professor Kyle's if you
06:13 had to grade this way too early grade for the Patriots pick at one or 110 rather what
06:17 do you what do you say?
06:19 I would give this one an A I think it was great value I think it was at a position of
06:22 need and it gives the offensive skill set that they really needed again there were flaws
06:27 but that's why you got him in the fourth round and considering what he can be he's got legitimate
06:32 quality steel potential so that's probably the easiest grade I've given out since Drake
06:36 May yeah I think so too I think it's an A and it's an A where they took him too because
06:41 you know we talked that he could have easily been a round three guy and being nabbed on
06:46 Friday night when we were on our live show we were talking about the Patriots going up
06:49 to you know going up in a trade and going to get this guy at the back end of the second
06:54 round or the third round I'm sorry he falls the Patriots do make a pick before in you
07:00 know in their offensive guard with the 103rd pick but they wait there at 110 Baker falls
07:04 to them and the Patriots have their hopeful wide receiver one of the future so keep it
