Arrowhead Report's Tucker Franklin and Joshua Brisco discuss the NFL's postponement of the Kansas City Chiefs Week 4 game against the New England Patriots due to COVID-19.
Transcript
00:00 This Sunday's game with the Kansas City Chiefs and the New England Patriots has been postponed
00:04 due to COVID-19 positive tests from quarterback Cam Newton and practice squad quarterback for the
00:10 Chiefs Jordan Tamu. Joining me to break this all down Joshua Briscoe, publisher for Sports Illustrated
00:16 arrowheadreport.com. Josh, what do you have to say about this whole matter and really as the time of
00:20 this video as we're recording it there's still a lot up in the air. Yeah we're kind of at like
00:25 midday Saturday and if you're watching this video sometime in the future you might think we're
00:29 idiots because so many things have changed but let me tell you where we're at just as of this moment.
00:33 As you mentioned Cam Newton starting quarterback for the Patriots positive COVID tests he had the
00:37 first one that became public then we later find out Jordan Tamu who's been playing as Cam Newton
00:42 also played as Lamar Jackson on the scout team from the practice squad for the Chiefs over these
00:46 last few weeks he tested positive and then everything at that point I think the parking
00:51 break had to get pulled. So right now we know the NFL has said we're not playing that game tomorrow
00:56 being Sunday afternoon we're gonna go ahead and try to see if they get this game played on Monday
01:00 or Tuesday. We'll give you both sides of why I feel good and don't feel good about that.
01:04 Like positively in the sort of normal positive sense I think that the chances of them playing
01:10 on Tuesday makes the most sense because it gives them more time to keep just sticking cotton swabs
01:15 up everybody's nose. The more tests you can do and the longer you can you can have of a period to
01:20 test all those guys the better because obviously like you have an incubation period right out of
01:25 the gate where immediately testing negative might not actually be indicative of if you've been
01:30 exposed to COVID or not or if you have COVID or not because of how that process works. There's
01:34 still a lot about this virus we don't fully understand even though we've been living around
01:38 it now for half of a year or so a little bit more I guess. So I think that playing on Tuesday makes
01:44 the most sense out of the options we've been given so far because it just gives the NFL the longest
01:48 possible runway. Conversely we could find out Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday that there are a dozen
01:54 players with the Patriots who test positive or some some staff members. Jordan Tom who's a
01:58 quarterback I don't want to like alarm anybody but that's the quarterback room that includes Patrick
02:03 Mahomes and also just teams you're talking about all of their quarters. So it's it's difficult to
02:09 say without being in the room you know what exactly they've all been able to do in terms of social
02:13 distancing in terms of masking. I think that at least from the Chiefs they've taken it very very
02:16 seriously and still stuff happens like that's just sort of the nature of COVID. So at this point if I
02:22 had to bet money as we sit here again on on Saturday kind of midday I'd be surprised if this
02:29 game happens this week but I do think the best chance of it happening would be on Tuesday.
02:33 I agree with you Josh. We talk about all this and more on today's emergency episode of Roughing
02:39 the Kicker. Find that wherever you find your podcast or at smarturl.it/roughing.
02:44 you
