00:00 We're first going to talk about the Chiefs running performance last week mark
00:05 What was kind of your thoughts before we dive into that on the Chiefs performance against the Jets?
00:09 Well going into it
00:11 I actually wrote my article last week on the running game and how I thought that they would be
00:16 Featured for sure in the second half of the game and how they would be like this
00:21 Great rushing attack and all this stuff and that just turned out to be totally false. So I apologize
00:29 Again for jinxing the Chiefs. I know I think it was first Harrison Butker that I jinxed then it was
00:34 Mike Dana, I got hurt and all this other stuff. But anyway, so the Chiefs running game just looked
00:40 Absolutely horrible like Le'Veon Bell
00:45 I talked in the article about how he was averaging 6.5 yards of carry as a chief and that just tanked after a
00:51 1.7 yard per
00:53 rushing average there
00:56 Couldn't pick up the first down. I think it was two times
00:58 There was a fourth and one and I think there was a third and one that they ended up hunting on
01:04 But they didn't use Clyde Edwards a layer hardly at all
01:08 But yeah, it was just kind of a bummer of a performance but the good news is it launched Patrick Bahamas back into
01:17 MVP contention so that was positive. Yeah, my Patrick Bahamas had a really good day five touchdown passes all the Chiefs
01:25 Touchdowns came through the air by Patrick Mahomes arm and it was good to see him sling the pill a little bit
01:31 I've recently learned that phrase and I've been using it a lot on the podcast
01:34 But I really like slinging the pill because that's what he was doing calling audibles getting Tyree kill open
01:40 There was that one play
01:41 I think it might have been Tyree kills first touchdown where he or Tyree kill was just so open on that play too
01:47 And it was a beautifully thrown ball. Patrick Mahomes was really on one last week
01:52 Mahomes just had so much at his disposal in that game
01:55 Like it seemed like the Jets were there to like make sure Le'Veon Bell wasn't gonna like hurt them, which is
02:02 Patrick Mahomes is the quarterback
02:05 But yeah, it was just the Patrick Mahomes show, which I'm down with I'm fine with it
02:10 But I was just a little bit sad that the running game couldn't actually get going
02:13 Yeah, we don't get to see that much anymore
02:15 We don't get to see Patrick Mahomes take over games and put up big numbers like he did on Sunday
02:20 And I and I think you're right. I think the Jets are like hey, we really don't want Le'Veon Bell to beat us
02:24 Like this is the one guy that because a lot of teams are like, hey, we don't want Patrick Mahomes to be this in rightfully
02:30 So yeah, I think my home showed why teams have been putting everyone back and putting a bunch of defenders in the end
02:37 secondary
02:39 Because he gashed the Jets now the Jets are just bad at past defense
02:43 That's kind of what came down to that but um, they're the tenth rated
02:47 According to DVO a there's a tenth best rush defense in the NFL and it kind of showed on Sunday as the Chiefs only gained
02:53 Of 50 yards so through on the ground
02:55 Yeah, they they showed out on that end and unfortunately for them their offense couldn't do anything
03:02 Especially they didn't do too bad in the first half. Actually. They had to settle for field goals
03:07 I was kind of getting on the Chiefs defense a little bit on Twitter
03:10 But you know, you're playing the Jets you got to stop and get some three and outs
03:14 They actually went for that field goal at the end of the half could have scored
03:18 I think it was I think they would have scored on every possession in the first half if they had scored on that
03:23 Field goal there at the end of the half
03:26 But the Chiefs just absolutely shut them down the second half which was great to see
03:30 But yeah, the Chiefs running game was terrible. Yeah
03:35 I'm curious to what you think about this. Do you think that it was bad play calling or do you think it was the Jets defense?
03:42 I
03:44 Think it was the Jets defense
03:45 I I don't think that the Chiefs offense was doing much to help themselves at the same time
03:51 But I don't think it was the play calling necessarily
03:54 I mean there was a few times where I thought
03:56 Like on that fourth and one they could have done something a little bit more creative than run up the middle
04:01 which is what everybody was expecting maybe do a little bit of a I
04:04 don't know some sort of option where my homes could have ran it or passed it, but
04:08 There was I mean, there's a few plays where you look back and you think they could have done something different
04:13 There but at the same time
04:15 When my homes is on his game like he was on Sunday, you just kind of let him throw it around
04:20 You don't really try to establish the run
04:23 Quote and quote if that's what you're thinking about doing on a day like that. So I
04:29 Think you mentioned a good point about the Chiefs defense - they didn't really get off the field
04:35 When the Jets were in short fields if that makes sense
04:39 So if whatever it would have gave the Chiefs a good field positions
04:42 They were kind of unable to get off the field and stop them on third downs
04:46 but in the red zone the Chiefs were defense was able to hold the Jets to field goals, and I don't think that the
04:52 The play calling was off. They ran a lot of RPOs
04:56 Which I personally really enjoy the RPO aspect of it
05:00 You need a good quarterback to run RPOs Joe Burrow is a good quarterback to run RPO
05:04 So I wouldn't be surprised if Cincinnati ends up eventually running RPOs
05:08 They got a good coach over there in Zach Taylor who's a good offensive mind
05:11 But I just got off on a tangent about the Bengals. That's weird. That's all right
05:14 Yeah, they beat the Titans. That was a interesting game
05:19 So, I mean, maybe the Bengals are starting to come around as a good team. I would love to see that
05:25 Honestly, I love Joe Burrow as a quarterback
05:27 I've talked about it on this podcast before running RPOs benefits him also benefits the Chiefs - you look at Patrick Mahomes and his
05:34 decision-making in those RPOs have gotten
05:37 exponentially better and he's finding these receivers who find soft spots in the zone Travis Kelsey's another guy who is oh, yeah
05:44 Playing out of his minor now. This is gonna be his best season
05:47 I think as a receiver and really as a tight end and he's really showing that he's the best tight end in the league cuz
05:53 Mark, you know what the best ability is
05:55 What's that?
05:57 Availability. Oh, yeah
05:59 So I like that. Yeah, and if you look George Kittle just had a foot injury foot fracture not saying it's his fault
06:06 He's out for at least eight games, but the best ability availability Travis Kelsey hasn't suffered a serious injury now knock on wood
06:13 We're both knocking on wood Travis Kelsey's been available and pretty durable since he suffered some injuries early in his career
06:21 You
