Virginia football head coach Tony Elliott recaps the bye week.
Transcript
00:00 Did the bye week change things?
00:03 Yeah, it was good because we had a lot of guys
00:06 that were nicked up.
00:08 I think it was good for Nick Jackson.
00:11 You know, proud of the way he's attacked his recovery.
00:14 It was good for Ahearn.
00:15 Probably Ahearn will probably be out.
00:18 He'll be with us on the trip,
00:19 but I don't know if he'll be ready to go.
00:22 But it was just good from an overall standpoint
00:24 for the guys to have a chance to get away for a little bit,
00:28 have a couple days off to reenergize as we go forward,
00:32 trying to attack the second half of the season.
00:34 But it came at a good time,
00:36 and I think we're close to getting back
00:39 to where we need to be, but not quite all the way there.
00:42 Where's Billy?
00:43 Yeah, Billy was out moving around,
00:45 looked really good today.
00:48 Still noticed a slight limp at times,
00:52 but other times he looked like he was full speed.
00:55 So it was really, really good for him.
00:57 The bye week was good for him.
00:58 Anxious to see when was it?
01:02 Yesterday, because our schedule has been a little bit different.
01:04 So yesterday and today were the first two days
01:06 where he was really turned loose with the group,
01:09 but I anticipate he'll be ready to go.
01:12 On the field, during the bye week,
01:13 what did you guys accomplish?
01:15 What were you looking for?
01:16 What did you store up along those lines?
01:19 So you want to do a couple things.
01:22 Depending upon where your health is,
01:23 you use the bye week to build your team,
01:26 but unfortunately, with where we are from a depth standpoint
01:29 and this guy's been injured,
01:30 we weren't able to do as much of that,
01:32 but the coaches had a chance
01:33 to do some disaster report review,
01:37 just some of the things that we need to improve,
01:39 being able to take a chance to look at all of our issues
01:44 that we need to clean up and see what the culprits were
01:47 and then go attack those from a fundamental standpoint.
01:49 You're able to get a head start on your opponent,
01:53 get about six days of practice.
01:55 Biggest thing for us was an opportunity
01:57 to grow some of the young depth
01:59 because several of the guys, key guys,
02:03 were down for a little while during the open week.
