00:00 The construction of the Semarang Demak Toll Road in Sentual, Java is a significant national project.
00:07 It aims to span 26.95 km and will be divided into two sections.
00:13 Approximately 6.7 km of the toll road will be built above the sea, making it the longest sea-toll road in Indonesia.
00:21 Interestingly, the construction involves utilizing 9 million bamboo poles as the foundation structure for the sea-toll section.
00:29 These bamboo poles are arranged like mats and driven into the ground,
00:34 serving as a solution to the soft soil conditions with a thickness of up to 50 meters.
00:39 We use bamboo as a method to improve the soil conditions.
00:50 We know that the existing conditions of the soil in our construction are considered very soft soil.
01:04 We have to improve the soil conditions first,
01:08 then we will construct the toll road above the soft soil.
01:16 The bamboo can replace some of the functions that are required for the soil improvement process.
01:26 We use geosynthetic materials, but some of the geosynthetic materials can be replaced by the bamboo mats.
01:36 The construction is a composite of bamboo mats and geotextile to withstand the preloading load on the top.
01:46 The use of bamboo mats, claimed to be environmentally friendly,
01:50 is an innovation from the Research and Industry Affiliation of the Bandung Institute of Technology or PT Lapi ITB.
01:57 This bamboo construction will also resist decay and water damage as long as there are no extreme changes in the soil conditions.
02:05 Each bamboo mat will be covered with 20 cm of beach sand and stacked with additional bamboo mats.
02:11 This process will be repeated until reaching 17 layers.
02:15 This method is also expected to reduce construction costs by up to 30%.
02:21 The construction of bamboo mats is related to the process before the construction of the bamboo mattress.
02:29 Before the construction of the bamboo mattress, we first stretch the bamboo, using a cluster of 7 bamboo.
02:39 The 7 bamboo are tied together to form a single unit, which is called the bamboo cluster.
02:44 Then, to stretch the bamboo, we use a crane and a ponton crane.
02:51 So we call it a ponton crane.
02:53 The crane itself uses a capacity of 45 tons.
02:56 Then, to stretch the bamboo, we do it until the elevation of the sea floor, or we call it bed insulation.
03:03 The Semarang Sayung Sea-Toll Section will serve as a coastal barrier.
03:10 This type of construction is being implemented for the first time in Indonesia.
03:14 The toll road will also feature retention ponds to address tidal floating along the Semarang coast on the northern shore.
03:22 Why do we need to implement sea-toll construction here?
03:26 Because, as we know, the northern coast of Semarang is prone to flood.
03:35 Therefore, we need to implement sea-toll construction.
03:39 For the construction itself, we implement a sea-toll cluster at a certain height.
03:47 What makes it special is that we implement a toll road construction on this sea-toll cluster.
03:54 So, this toll road also requires quite specific and strict criteria.
04:02 From February 2023 to April 2024, the construction of the first toll road section has been undertaken by China Road and Bridge Corporation, PT Wijayakarya, and PT Pembangunan Perumahan, achieving 5.41% completion.
04:17 Initially targeted to be completed by 2026, the construction of the Semarang Demak Toll Road has been delayed to 2028 due to various challenges, including frequent adverse weather conditions in the project area.
04:30 The toll road aims to reduce travel time from 1.5 hours to 20 minutes and also boost the local economy.
04:38 This is the C2Day contributor reporting from Demak Central Java.
04:46 Thank you for watching.
