- "at 5 (minutes) to (the hour)" is a Greek idiom, meaning "in the nick of time".
- Papatsakalos is a priest and politician, known for his fierceness.
- Vougiouklaki was a famous Greek actress. She was known for her coquettish/kittenish/girlish behaviour, both when acting and in real life.
- VEAKEE is Zouboulia's attempt to read the English word BEACH, while she is not familiar with the English language or the Latin alphabet. So she reads it as if it was a written in Greek letters. The Greek letter B is pronounced as English V. Also the Greek letter H is pronounced as English EE. The letter C doesn't exist in the Greek alphabet, however Zouboulia somehow manages to pronounce it as K.
- Daniela is a rare name in Greece. It's not particularly known and it mostly sounds foreign. It's not traditional at all and Zouboulia would not have heard it, having lived in a village.
- Koulianou was a Greek model, and she is quite tall.
- "Apples" is a traditional game played in Greece. Two children stand facing each other fifteen to twenty metres apart, while all the other children are gathered in between them. The two players facing each other throw a ball, trying to hit one of the children in the middle. If a child gets hit, they "are burned" and they go out of the game. But if a child manages to catch the ball without it bouncing on the ground first (it's called "to catch an apple") then they get an extra life. When there is only one child left, the two players with the ball can only make ten attempts to hit them. If they miss, the game starts over with the same two players throwing the ball.
