Israeli 'spy' claims trial to charges of possessing, trafficking firearms

Alleged Israeli hitman Shalom Avitan has been charged at the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur with possession of six pistols and 158 bullets.

00:00At the case involving an alleged Israeli hitman attracted media attention on Friday.
00:08Shalom Avitan, who arrived at the Kuala Lumpur court complex by a police convoy at 8.09am,
00:15was slapped with two charges.
00:17He claimed trial at the Sessions Court to charges under Section 7 of the Firearms, Increased
00:22Penalties, Act with Trafficking Firearms and Section 8, Subsection A or the Arms Act for
00:28possession of six pistols and 158 bullets.
00:32The 38-year-old accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
00:35He faces the death penalty or life imprisonment and seven years jail under the Firearms Act
00:40or a RM10,000 fine for the charge under the Arms Act.
00:45Police arrested Avitan at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur on March 27 and seized six pistols
00:51and at least 200 bullets.
00:53Following the operation, 16 other suspects have been arrested in connection with the
00:58case.
00:59A local married couple, who allegedly sold the weapons to Avitan, were charged with possession
01:04of firearms at the Klang Sessions Court on April 8.
01:08No bail was granted to Avitan.
01:10The court fixed May 21 for next mention.
