Malaysia condemns assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh

Malaysia's Foreign Ministry has condemned the targeted assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

In a statement on Wednesday (July 31), Wisma Putra said
the assassination by Israel underscores the need for de-escalation and reinforces the necessity for all parties to engage in constructive dialogue and pursue peaceful resolutions.

00:29and those responsible to be brought to justice.
00:32Malaysia also urged all parties to exercise restraint while facts surrounding the assassination
00:38are being established.
00:40Wisma Putra also said that Malaysia recognizes Haniyeh's role and contribution to free Palestine
00:46and her people from the illegal Israeli occupation, and Malaysia stands in solidarity with the
00:52Palestinian people and reaffirms its commitment to supporting their struggle for justice and
00:58self-determination.
00:59Iranian media reported that Haniyeh was killed around 2 a.m. on Wednesday when an airborne
01:05projectile struck his residence in north Tehran, hours after he attended the swearing-in ceremony
01:11of the country's new president Massoud Pezeshkian.
