Two senior police officers from Bukit Aman's Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) were charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Tuesday (May 28) with accepting a RM1 million bribe from a businessman to close an investigation allegedly linked to the purchase of firearms by an Israeli citizen last month.

ACP Chin Khiam Kong, 54, the senior assistant director of CCID's Forensic Accounting Investigations unit, and Deputy Supt Suhairon Abdullah, 42, the Cryptocurrency Crime Investigation head, pleaded not guilty to the charges before Judge Azura Alwi.

00:58 The charge was framed under Section 16A Bracket B of the MACC Act 2009, read together with
01:05 Section 34 of the Penal Code.
01:07 The duo face a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine not less than five times the amount
01:13 of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher upon conviction.
01:18 Additionally, Chin pleaded not guilty to two other charges of agreeing to receive a RM250,000
01:25 bribe to help close a criminal investigation against Khoo for a cheating offence.
01:31 He allegedly committed the offence at his office at Manara KPJ at 12.30 pm last April
01:38 18 and at the parking lot between 10.30 am and 1.00 pm last April 19.
01:46 During mitigation, the court heard that Chin has served the police force for 29 years and
01:51 has four children, one of whom is still studying abroad, while Suhayron has served the police
01:57 force for 20 years and is supporting a wife and four children.
02:02 Judge Azura set bail at RM40,000 each with one or two sureties and ordered both accused
02:09 to surrender their passports to the court.
