00:00 It was sent back to Earth and was illuminated along the way.
00:03 Here's a look at the McFarlane Toys Spawn Gold Label Collection Redeemer Glow-in-the-Dark
00:08 Edition.
00:28 The Redeemer is considered the anti-spawn, Heaven's equivalent of the Hell's Hellspawn,
00:32 a powerful religious warrior infused with a heavenly matter and purposed to be a durable
00:35 loyal warrior of God.
00:37 A mysterious organization known as the Ethereal Masters chose worthy mortals to be the hosts
00:41 of the Redeemer and transform into angelic warriors to battle Hell.
00:45 Unfortunately, the Redeemer typically retains no knowledge of their mortal lives, even if
00:49 they return to the mortal realm.
00:51 However, the current Redeemer, Eddie Frank, not only retained his memories, but fueled
00:55 by his rage towards the Hellspawns, made him the most powerful Redeemer to date.
00:59 Just before we get a closer look at a glow-in-the-dark Redeemer, I'd like to thank the folks over
01:03 at McFarlane Toys that did provide this sample we could have a look at.
01:06 Not only does the figure glow in the dark, but he's also limited to only 3,000 pieces
01:10 worldwide.
01:11 Some assembly of course is required.
01:13 That assembly is already done.
01:14 I've taken the liberty of adding the wings on the back of the figure's body.
01:17 Not that you necessarily need to see how that installs, but based on that, depending on
01:22 how you want to have the figure displayed, we could either measure it to the top of his
01:24 head or we can measure it to the top of his wings.
01:26 All right, we'll measure it to the top of his head.
01:29 The Redeemer is actually seven and a quarter inches in height, or the figure's about 18
01:34 and a half centimeters tall.
01:36 If you are already collecting Redeemers, then you'll probably know that this figure is using
01:39 the same body as the original Redeemer.
01:42 Just bringing him in right now.
01:44 The figure though has some back heaviness.
01:46 I suppose it goes without saying, just because of course he does have the wings now attached
01:49 on the back of the figure's body, is going to give him, like I said, a little bit more
01:53 back heaviness.
01:54 But of course, the figure does also come included with a stand.
01:56 It's probably best advised to use that when you're displaying the figure on the shelf.
02:00 I'm sure you already saw at the bottom corner of the screen that he did come included with
02:03 accessories, but looking at those accessories, the first thing we'll have a look at is the
02:06 trading card.
02:08 I really like this card that they included.
02:10 It does also have sort of more, not that it glows in the dark, but it sort of has like
02:14 a heavenly look to it.
02:16 Really like the way that that's displayed.
02:18 On the back of the card though, you're not going to get a readup of the Redeemer.
02:20 What you'll get instead is the fact that it's a certificate of authenticity, just to tell
02:24 you that this is legit and it's out of 3000 copies.
02:28 The one though that was provided by Todd and his team doesn't actually have a number listed
02:31 down below.
02:32 So it's just blank out of 3000.
02:33 If you are picking this up for yourself, you likely will have a number right there out
02:37 of that very limited run.
02:39 Move the card to the side.
02:40 The figure also as well comes included with a very familiar Spawn logo stand.
02:44 The stand isn't anything new.
02:46 It's the same type of stand that we always get, but what is somewhat new is the fact
02:50 that they did actually put the Spawn logo down below.
02:52 It always seems like it's a little squished, isn't it?
02:54 It's like it's a lot wider than it is higher, but just to fit that underneath the peg, of
02:59 course the peg is going to be crucial when it comes to displaying the figure.
03:01 Because again, like he's got all that back heaviness on the back of his body.
03:07 Figure also comes included with two swords.
03:09 One sword at least I can do a comparison.
03:11 This is the sword I got included with the original Redeemer.
03:14 It's the exact same sword, same guard, same hilt, although the blade is going to be a
03:18 little bit different.
03:20 Supposedly though, the blades are also glow in the dark.
03:23 We're going to go ahead and just shine a little bit of light on.
03:25 Oh, by the way, I just got my black light here.
03:27 You can see that it does have some illumination to it.
03:30 So not only again, is a Redeemer going to be glowing in the dark, but also his accessories
03:34 as well.
03:35 Not only does he come in clear with this sword, which again is just a carbon copy to the one
03:39 that I did have from before, but he also comes included with this sword.
03:43 Not having any of the other variations of Redeemer, I can't quite tell you if this
03:47 sword was one that got packed along with another variation of Redeemer or if it's unique
03:51 to this figure.
03:52 I'm thinking it's more the other.
03:54 I think this figure probably came included with this sword at some point.
03:56 I just don't have a Redeemer that happens to have this sword.
03:59 I like the decorative detail though to the guard.
04:02 The hilt is pretty simple, but a lot of detailing goes into the guard and I really like the
04:06 way that the blade spirals off.
04:08 It actually kind of looks like it's engulfed in flames.
04:11 By the benefit of now having two gripping hands, Redeemer actually can wield both weapons.
04:16 Technically, the other Redeemer also had two gripping hands, so that's nothing new
04:19 there, but the figure at least has the means to store both swords.
04:22 Unfortunately though, what will go with that is that if you are taking the swords, for
04:26 example, and trying to fit it into his hand, which isn't always the easiest thing to
04:29 do.
04:30 I'm just going to go ahead and just take that right now and fit.
04:32 There we go.
04:33 That was a lot easier than I was expecting.
04:34 And then do the exact same on the other side.
04:37 It's now going to cause more chaos when it comes to displaying this guy because not
04:41 only does he have now the weight on the back of the figure's body because of the wings,
04:44 but he also now has the additional weight.
04:46 Why am I having a struggle getting this sword in his hand?
04:48 It probably doesn't help either.
04:50 Ouch.
04:51 Ouch.
04:52 It doesn't help either.
04:53 I'll show you why I'm saying ouch for.
04:54 On the back of the figure's hands, he actually has these big protruding spikes.
04:57 I've now poked myself, I don't know how many times, getting those swords into his
05:01 hands, but he has now at least the means to store the swords.
05:04 I mean, I guess in one way, it can kind of counterbalance some of the weight now he has
05:08 excessively on the back of the figure's body because he now has swords on the front.
05:11 It sort of does giving a little more equal stance, more weight on the front, more weight
05:16 on the back, right in the middle.
05:19 Perfect.
05:20 Of course, let's go ahead and just take the swords out of his hand.
05:22 By the way, the guard and the hilt are the same gold that they've actually used for
05:25 his armor here.
05:26 So everything matches up.
05:27 So you know exactly who this belongs to.
05:30 Take the swords out of his hand.
05:31 Now this hand, there we go.
05:32 Now this hand doesn't want to let go of the sword.
05:34 Like I said, the only other thing I did already do is I attached the wings.
05:37 The wings attach, actually I had a real hard time getting this one to peg in place, but
05:42 if you were to take this off, do I want to remove this?
05:44 Maybe I won't remove this.
05:45 It's basically just a peg and there's a hole in the back of the figure's body and you just
05:49 take one and you fit it into the other and then you've got yourself hingeable wings.
05:53 These wings, what's neat about them is bringing in the original Redeemer.
05:56 The original Redeemer would have used only just a lighter plastic of gray and then would
06:00 have washed over top of it to bring all the details of the feathers to the foreground.
06:04 This Redeemer actually does use similar sculpting.
06:06 Of course, it's the identical sculpting, but they've actually now got away with by using
06:10 translucent, a very smoky clear plastic.
06:13 If you take the light and shine across it, boy, does that ever illuminate.
06:18 Now this is going to glow a green similar to both the blades of the swords and boy,
06:22 does that ever look really neat.
06:23 You can kind of see in a way that just by shining the light that I'm doing on it, how
06:26 the colors change slightly.
06:28 So that's a little bit more greenish now on the one side.
06:30 It's not just my eyes.
06:31 I'm sure other people are seeing it too.
06:33 It's a little greener on this side and it is on this side.
06:35 And again, we can also share the wealth around.
06:37 We'll shine it on this side also as well.
06:39 Yeah, the actual wings glow a really nice bright green.
06:43 The glowing doesn't just stop with the wings though.
06:45 If you actually look at the front of the figure's face, the cross that he has across his face
06:49 does glow and some of the other details, for example, like the little cross that he has
06:53 down below here on his belt do also glow.
06:55 He doesn't have as much illumination necessarily to the front of his torso, but it's at least
07:00 where it counts.
07:01 Like I said, in the cross, the cross down below here, and he also has his, of course,
07:05 you know, any 90s character would have himself a thigh belt of pockets.
07:09 This thigh belt of pockets just happened to have crosses all across it.
07:13 So there are some areas that do illuminate.
07:15 Again, the wings, the cross, cross, and down below here also as well.
07:18 Nothing else really seems to illuminate him or what does illuminate him at least isn't
07:22 as bright as those sections.
07:24 We're going to cut the lights in a second so you guys can actually see how well that
07:27 glows in the dark as well.
07:28 But to also bring back in the original Redeemer, it's the exact same figure, just colored a
07:32 little bit differently.
07:33 The golds actually are very close to one another, usually with glow in the dark figures, what
07:37 they tend to do, and maybe it has a lot more to do with the fact that this isn't glowing
07:40 anyways, but usually the colors may vary a little bit.
07:43 And while the blues are definitely a darker here with the approach with the glow in the
07:46 dark release than the original version, I'd say like the blue works really well.
07:50 The blue with the gold, very nice.
07:52 Again, the gold is exactly the same, but the blues are very differently done.
07:56 Pockets also, this one, the original one had the gold painted in crosses, whereas this
08:01 one again now just has the glow in the dark.
08:03 For the figure's articulation, do you want to do the articulation first?
08:05 You want to see what this guy looks like in the dark.
08:07 I see a show of hands.
08:08 Okay, you guys want to see what this guy looks like in the dark.
08:11 So getting this guy to stand, which again isn't always the easiest thing to do because
08:14 of course the figure does have much, much weight on the back of his wings.
08:18 You know what we'll do?
08:19 We'll actually grab the display stand.
08:21 That might just make things a little bit easier.
08:23 Plug it on the back, plug it on the bottom of the figure's feet.
08:25 He does have peggles on the bottoms of both his feet, by the way.
08:28 We can get this guy to stand.
08:30 We'll cut the lights.
08:31 We'll see what you guys can see, what he looks like in the dark.
08:33 Yeah, I didn't just want to rely on the black light alone.
08:36 Now I can already see the fact that the cross on the front of his face, you can't even see
08:39 my hand, the cross on the front of his face, the cross on his buckle and the side belt,
08:44 side pockets that he has on his thighs.
08:46 Not to mention as well, the wings are already glowing.
08:48 You may not even be able to see that, but I'll fix that in a second.
08:51 I'm going to grab myself the black light, grab the figure of course, and we're going
08:54 to just run the light across it.
08:56 So again, you can see the greenness in his wings.
08:58 See how it retains, obviously the longer amount of time that you have this shining on the
09:02 plastic will then dictate how much more it glows.
09:05 I move it away for a second.
09:07 You can see how it glows in the green.
09:09 You can see also as well how the face, what face he has at least, does also glow in the
09:13 dark.
09:14 And down below again, you've got the belt buckle and then you've got the pockets there
09:18 is also as well.
09:19 So he doesn't glow everywhere.
09:21 He does actually, now that I'm looking at it, he seems to glow just a little bit in
09:24 the blue.
09:25 So he does have a little bit of illumination, but not to the level of course with his wings
09:29 and all the other mentions parts that we've looked at also as well.
09:31 Like it doesn't seem to be the case as again, I shine this across the torso, his arms.
09:38 It doesn't look as much.
09:39 Now I did do this earlier and I had about the same level of success.
09:42 It only seems to again, glow in those certain areas.
09:45 The rest of his body seems not to glow as much or doesn't even glow at all.
09:49 As for Redeemer's articulation, it's going to be the exact same as the Redeemer we've
09:52 already had a look at.
09:53 The head's going to be on a ball joint, but I couldn't help but notice that the ball joint
09:56 for the head is really tight.
09:58 It isn't the case that necessarily anything is in the way.
10:00 Not that a spike is grinding against his collar, for example, and just happens to be a tight
10:05 joint.
10:06 Head rotates back and forth though.
10:07 It looks down, it looks up.
10:08 And again, you can also rock it back and forth as well.
10:11 You may already notice that he's got these large shoulder pads.
10:13 These are actually fairly soft and plastic.
10:15 And what they've done is they've actually pegged it right.
10:17 Let me just move this out of the way.
10:19 They've pegged it right there.
10:20 So not at the top of the shoulder.
10:21 So because of that, he at least gives a full hinge ability.
10:24 So you can rotate or hinge the arms out at 90 degrees.
10:27 You can also take those arms and rotate them all the way around.
10:29 But I mean, with having now the wings on the back of the figure's body, you're not gonna
10:32 be able to do a full rotation.
10:34 There's just going to be too much grinding happening here.
10:36 The figure does have a swivel in his bicep.
10:38 The figure also has a double hinge on his elbow and a swivel in his hand rotating all
10:42 the way around.
10:43 Upper torso is going to be once again on a ball joint.
10:45 The figure further down has a ball joint just above the belt.
10:48 So it rotates also there as well.
10:50 Legs split out.
10:51 They're on ratcheted joints.
10:52 You can take the legs and move forward.
10:53 You can move them back.
10:54 There is a swivel at the top of the thigh.
10:57 Double hinge on the knee.
10:58 Love the sculpting on these legs, by the way.
11:00 There is a little bit of marbling.
11:01 I couldn't help but have to mention that, of course, in the review.
11:05 There's a little bit of marbling happening in the gold.
11:07 But I mean, being that it's actually armor, I can get away with the fact that this guy
11:10 has a little bit of marbling there.
11:12 If it was just a regular suit, then it would look a little out of place.
11:14 Really again, it's stellar looking sculpting here.
11:17 And again, for his ankle articulation, it moves back and forth, back and forth this
11:20 way.
11:21 And the figure does have toe articulation.
11:22 Couldn't help but also point out the fact he does have the wing articulation.
11:26 So because, of course, it swivels back and forth on that peg, it moves back and forth
11:29 this way.
11:30 It also hinges out also as well.
11:32 So if you are one that likes to have your Redeemer spawn kind of more angled back like
11:36 this, you can also display it.
11:37 But of course, that's going to give him even more problems when it comes to him actually
11:41 standing.
11:42 For right now, at least, we're going to just get this displayed as he is normally.
11:47 I like this figure.
11:48 I really do like it.
11:49 Now, I'm a big fan of Redeemer anyways.
11:50 I think what they really did with this figure, taking, of course, the initial Redeemer, which
11:54 I was a big fan of anyways, and of course now just giving him not only just giving him
12:00 a different color of plastic for his body, but then giving him the option to illuminate
12:04 his wings.
12:05 Unfortunately, though, the same problem, as you guys can already see, he's going to have
12:08 a harder time to stand just because, again, he's got the weight of the wings on the back
12:11 of the figure's body.
12:12 Any figure that has wings on the back of their body is automatically going to be a figure
12:16 that's going to give you a harder time to stand.
12:17 But if you guys do get this guy to stand, of course, you can always use yourself the
12:21 displays and it comes also included with the figure as well.
12:24 Boy, nice looking figures to have on the show.
12:26 I do, again, like the idea that the colors were changed because it doesn't seem as much
12:30 like the blue illuminates.
12:31 So because of that, they could have also just used the same blue that they did for Redeemer
12:35 and then just made all the parts that glow in the dark, just kept those parts glowing
12:39 in the dark.
12:40 But the fact that they also changed the coloring of the blue is one way that also makes this
12:44 figure look very different than the original Redeemer that you may have collected already.
12:49 As already mentioned, if you guys are interested in wanting to get your hands on the Redeemer
12:52 glow in the dark edition, this guy is limited to only 3000 pieces.
12:56 Finding this guy online, you may have to source him out on places like eBay and hopefully
13:00 you won't have to pay through the roof if you want to get your hands on him.
13:03 I think, again, one of the benefits of him is not just having the figure displayed with
13:06 the glow in dark features, but the fact that when nothing is glowing on him, he still looks
13:11 like a completely different Redeemer than the one we got before.
13:14 Same sculpt, yes, different approach though.
13:16 Even like the wings, by using more of a translucent smokier plastic, it just makes those wings
13:20 look a lot different than the original Redeemer and I really like the color scheme that they've
13:24 used for him.
13:25 In a way, I kind of wish that they could have used a different gold though so it wasn't
13:28 the exact same gold as the original Redeemer, but again, like the colors work extremely
13:31 well with the metallic gold and then that blue that they've used.
13:34 That blue is like one of my favorite things about the figure.
13:37 The glow in the dark doesn't glow everywhere, granted, it's only in the wings, it's only
13:40 on the front of his crest or the cross on the front of his face and of course then in
13:45 his belt buckle and his side leg pockets.
13:48 Every character from the 90s has to have side leg pockets, but I think the glow in the dark
13:51 is enough that it doesn't take away from the character and maybe that's one of the benefits
13:55 that the fact that not all of the figure glows in the dark because if they had used the glow
13:59 in the dark plastic or paint from the top of the head to the bottom of his feet, then
14:04 the colors would be a little bit more distorted.
14:06 By keeping it only in the places that they chose, it keeps then the rest of the figure
14:10 looking just as good in the daylight as it does in the dark.
14:14 Big thank you once again to the folks over at McFarland Toys that did provide the sample
