00:00 Hello, welcome back to C2A Business.
00:04 And in this segment, we need to let you know that Telkom Indonesia, through its subsidiary
00:09 Telecommunication and Satellite Indonesia, or TelkomSat, launched its Meraputi 2 satellite
00:15 using a SpaceX rocket.
00:18 This satellite, which was launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida, is part of Telkom's
00:22 commitment to ensuring equitable internet access throughout Indonesia.
00:27 The Meraputi satellite is the first ever high-throughput satellite owned by Telkom Indonesia.
00:34 Ignition and liftoff.
00:40 Liftoff of Meraputi 2 on its way to geostationary transfer orbit.
00:46 And it is on its way.
00:49 The Meraputi 2 satellite, owned by Indonesian Satellite Telecommunication, or TelkomSat,
00:53 successfully launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, United States on Wednesday, February
00:58 21st.
00:59 The 11 satellite, owned by a subsidiary of Telkom Indonesia, uses high-throughput satellite
01:05 technology using the Falcon 9 rocket owned by SpaceX.
01:10 The Meraputi 2 satellite will operate at an orbital position of 113 degrees east for 15
01:16 years covering data surfaces all over Indonesia.
01:23 After launching, the Meraputi 2 satellite will go through various tests and is targeted
01:28 to start operating in April 2024.
01:31 Telkom Chief Executive Officer Ririk Adrian Sass said that the launch of this satellite
01:35 is a form of Telkom's commitment to support equitable connectivity in Indonesia.
01:40 And there it is.
01:44 We have Miko.
01:45 We believe that the satellite will be developed because we believe that we need a large number
01:53 of satellites in Indonesia because the consumption of data per capita has also increased.
01:57 We will need to relight the engine to put it into a sort of transfer orbit.
02:03 Previously, Telkom had launched the Meraputi satellite in 2018, which operates at a 108
02:09 east longitude orbital slot.
02:11 As of now, TelkomSat has actively operated two satellites, namely Telkom 3S and Telkom
02:16 Meraputi.
02:17 Baharian Bahari also outlaying Golan for C2Day.
02:22 And now, to learn more about Telkom Group's Meraputi 2 satellite, joining us in the studio
02:40 is TelkomSat Chief Development Officer, Mr. Anggoro Widiawan.
02:45 Good afternoon, Mr. Widiawan.
02:46 Thank you so much for joining us today in C2Day Business.
02:50 Now, following the predecessor of the satellite in 2018, the Meraputi 2 satellite has been
02:56 launched on February 20 in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
03:01 So what is Telkom Group's mission in launching this satellite?
03:05 Okay.
03:06 First of all, thanks for having me here.
03:09 I'm very happy to have it here.
03:12 And in line with our purpose of our company, Telkom Group, in delivering meaningful and
03:20 better connectivity across Indonesia, Meraputi 2 satellite, the main objective is to bring
03:32 additional capacity, coverage, as well as capability for Telkom Group in providing better
03:41 and meaningful connectivity across Indonesia.
03:44 Not only in the area where mainly most of the people are there, but also mostly in the
03:51 remote areas, including in the sea, like maritime.
03:56 Ah, I see.
03:57 So it is actually very much awaited, sir, to see even more connectivity being put throughout
04:04 Indonesia.
04:05 But you were saying that this satellite has been launched with the purpose of reaching
04:10 all people all the way even to the sea, to the maritime area.
04:16 But how powerful is this would be, the satellite, to cover the lowest, foremost, and outside
04:24 regions in Indonesia?
04:26 So unlike the previous satellite that we have, we have two additional satellites that we
04:33 are currently operating, Telkom 3S as well as Meraputi satellite.
04:40 Those two satellites are traditional single beam satellite.
04:44 This one is very unique.
04:46 This is a high throughput satellite.
04:50 This is the first high throughput technology satellite that we own for us to be able to
04:58 give more powerful and more capacity for the people.
05:03 With this satellite, with Meraputi satellite, Meraputi 2 satellite, we do hope that it will
05:12 give better experience multiple times, up to 10 times better than the previous satellite.
05:20 So that way, we will be able to expand our coverage and to reach remote areas, the users
05:27 in the remote areas, including the areas where 3T is.
05:34 So all the islands, all the borders of Indonesia can be beneficial with this.
05:42 And the experience will be closer and closer to the experience in the city.
05:47 So even these days after the pandemic, thank God we could actually go past that, learning
05:55 from that experience, a lot of people are actually in the remote area.
05:59 They learn to have even more connected to the world as they could not really get out
06:08 of their homes.
06:09 And also all the studying experience for the students were actually done at home.
06:16 Hence, they need a better connectivity.
06:20 And also I heard this is actually the 11th satellite that the group has.
06:24 That's correct.
06:25 That's amazing.
06:26 And when is the satellite set to operate?
06:30 So currently the satellite, lately after the launch, after a series of maneuvers, the satellite
06:38 a few days ago has already reached the orbit in 113 East.
06:45 And currently the satellite has undergone the so-called in-orbit testing for all the
06:52 subsystems, including the transmission, which is going to be directly felt by the community
07:00 later on.
07:01 Answering your question, the satellite will be ready by the end of this month.
07:08 So wait for us in early April, everything is ready for the people to experience it.
07:17 That should be a good present and gift during the month of Ramadan.
07:21 And also through the profession of the satellite-based backhaul services, who are the target customers?
07:31 If you could actually provide us with even more detail.
07:35 So at the moment, prior to the launch, normally the satellite is being booked by the so-called
07:42 FISAT operator, very small aperture terminal operators, who are directly consuming or utilizing
07:51 our capacity to provide the end users, like enterprises, banking systems, ATMs, and also
08:00 mining, for instance.
08:04 So the first phase is going to be targeted for, will be helpful for FISAT operators to
08:13 deploy and to expand their service coverage, as well as to extend their applications to
08:21 the users.
08:22 Well, aside of that, also one of the missions of the group is actually to strengthen the
08:28 satellite business portfolio.
08:31 And can we actually also have the knowledge on how has the business competition been so
08:40 far?
08:41 Yeah, that's a very good question.
08:42 So we need to look back because connectivity or digital connectivity is very highly competitive
08:52 and satellite is part of the connectivity.
08:56 And we are not only competing within the satellite industry, but also with the non-satellite
09:03 industry like fiber optic provider, telco provider, and mobile provider.
09:08 So in that way, but remember, one of the key characteristics of the satellite is that satellite
09:16 is distance insensitive, which means that the cost of connectivity between two buildings
09:23 in Jakarta is going to be the same as the connection between Jakarta to Jakarta.
09:30 So which means that we will always, with this unique archipelagic mountainous country, we
09:40 believe that the demand of our satellite is going to be increasing.
09:45 However, our challenge is need to be able to provide the close to terrestrial experience
09:55 because we cannot afford to lose it.
09:58 So that's why we launched Merah Putih 2 satellite is to provide close to terrestrial experience
10:09 in the remote areas.
10:10 Okay.
10:11 So before we say goodbye, Mr. Widiawan, can you put in a much more simpler words for our
10:20 viewers who are watching at the moment, probably after the satellite is operating, what can
10:26 we expect in our daily lives?
10:32 We will be able to see our friends, our families in remote areas to see us and to be communicating
10:43 like what we did in the city.
10:45 Amazing.
10:46 Takom Sat, Chief Development Officer, Mr. Anggoro Widiawan, thank you so much for being
10:50 with us today and see today's business and we will be waiting for much more exciting
10:56 news from the group.
10:57 Thank you.
10:58 Thank you so much.
10:59 We are going for a break but we will return with more business and economic updates so
11:03 you don't want to miss that.
11:04 So stay tuned.
11:04 Thank you.
