Alex Donno reacts to the news that Miami running back Henry Parrish Jr will be leaving The U in the transfer portal.
Transcript
00:00 It was reported and revealed that Henry Parrish, who's been Miami's, let's say, most consistent
00:07 running back overall for the past two years, Henry Parrish is going to hit the transfer portal.
00:13 He is intending to leave Coral Gables, didn't practice today. I don't think he's on the roster
00:18 anymore. So Parrish, Parrish is out the door. Now I'm already, I can't guarantee you where he ends
00:24 up. And, you know, he can't officially enter the pool. Actually, you know what, for him being a
00:28 grad transfer, it might be different, but so I'm not sure if he has to wait until the April 15th
00:33 date to officially get in or because he's a grad student, maybe he gets to get in there a little
00:37 bit early. I'm already seeing reports linking him to certain spots. And I don't know if this is just
00:44 rumor or assumptions, but everybody seems to be connecting Parrish to one of his former running
00:50 back. There's two guys he's played under, but one of the two former running back coaches that he
00:54 played for at Miami. I see some reports linking him possibly to go to UCF to join his former
01:02 running backs coach here, Tim Harris, who went back there, or I see reports actually linking
01:06 him going back to Ole Miss to rejoin Kevin Smith there. Cause remember Parrish started his career
01:14 at Ole Miss before coming to Miami. So serious question. Maybe someone has an answer to this.
01:18 I don't. Cause you know, this whole transfer portal, portal mania is a relatively new thing.
01:23 Has a player ever left one school to go to another and then transferred back to the original school?
01:30 I can't think of any examples, but if, if Parrish were to somehow end up back at Ole Miss,
01:36 that may be the first prominent example of a guy coming back to the original program that he left
01:41 in the first place. But I don't know where he's going to end up. I would assume that people are
01:45 going to ask why is Parrish leaving? I don't know for sure, but I would assume the idea of getting
01:53 guaranteed more playing time has something to do with it. He's part of a big rotation here at Miami.
01:59 And when everybody's fully healthy, as we saw last year, he wasn't the best running back on the team.
02:05 I mentioned over the last couple of years, he's been, you know, the most consistent guy, but
02:09 he was clearly passed by Mark Fletcher last year. Fletcher's not healthy right now, but when
02:13 everybody's healthy, Parrish is not the best running back on the team. Miami's got a deep
02:17 running back room. I'm sure finding more and more consistent playing time is something that Parrish
02:23 is looking forward to or trying to achieve. And listen, I'm wishing nothing but the best to the
02:28 young man. Pleasure to cover him down here for the last couple of years. And I know that this is his
02:34 last ride in college. He's got one more year of eligibility left. I'm sure he's got a dream,
02:39 like most everyone who suits up for a major college program, he's got dreams and aspirations
02:44 of playing in the national football league. And the best way to do that would be to get a lot of
02:50 playing time wherever you end up. If he didn't see that happening at Miami, I hope Mr. Parrish
02:54 is able to find that someplace else. Henry Parrish in his two-year career at the University of Miami
03:00 rushed for 1,242 yards, 10 touchdowns over two seasons, average 5.5 yards per carry, which is
03:09 pretty darn good. He rushed for 625 yards last season with six touchdowns, 617 yards the season
03:16 before that with four touchdowns. So, all right, now that Henry Parrish is leaving, obviously we
03:21 have to talk about here as a collective and as a show here on Locked on Canes, what happens next
03:27 and how much is Parrish going to be missed at Miami? Now, we all have our hopes and expectations
03:33 that if Parrish feels like it's necessary to go somewhere else to find more playing time,
03:39 hopefully this means that the Miami Hurricanes and Miami's coaches internally have faith that,
03:46 let's say a guy like Trevante Citizen, they have faith that he's fully recovered and is
03:51 going to be having a bounce back year this season.
