Carer of the Year - Savannah Kelly and Kelly Macrae.
Transcript
00:00 - So can you tell us what it means to you to have won this award tonight?
00:04 - Probably like the world because I was like so shocked when I was like...
00:08 Yeah.
00:09 - Yeah. And the judges were really impressed by how you look after your sister.
00:13 Can you tell us the sort of caring that you're involved with?
00:16 - Yeah, I have looked after my little sister and I help you and Dad with her, don't I?
00:21 - There was an incident I think where she was having a seizure.
00:24 Can you tell us a wee bit about that?
00:26 - So what happened was I noticed Amelia was having a seizure but then I clocked on straight away
00:34 and then told you and Dad before it ended up very, very badly.
00:39 - And Kelly, you talked about your daughter being a young carer and how that's something that's overlooked a bit.
00:47 - Absolutely.
00:48 - I know it's quite important. Do you think people recognise and know that the young people are playing?
00:53 - Absolutely.
00:54 - I think you mentioned that I come home from school every day, so you do, don't I?
00:57 - Yeah, like Amelia spends a lot of time in hospital.
01:00 Savannah's 13, she should be out enjoying herself but she's dedicated to her little sister.
01:06 She comes up to the hospital to see her every day.
01:09 Amelia's actually still in hospital at the moment and she just puts her little sister before everybody.
01:15 And at 13 there's so many young carers in the Highlands that don't get that.
01:20 - And Savannah, I think there was not just your own sister you raised funds to help.
01:25 - Yeah.
01:26 - Can you tell us about that?
01:27 - Yeah, so what I've done was I have raised money for the Children's Award so then everyone on Christmas will be happy
01:32 and then all the kids would have another sibling so that we'd have stuff to open and yeah.
01:38 - What did you do for the fundraising?
01:40 - I started selling raffle tickets.
01:42 - Yeah, and you raised £12,000.
01:44 - Yeah.
01:45 - Yeah, no problem.
01:46 - It was £1,200.
01:47 - £1,200?
01:48 - Yeah, but for the age of 13 she went out and found herself a sponsor, Cali Timber, didn't you, by herself?
01:56 And they bought the presents with Gadget Refuge and then she went on a big shopping spree
02:03 and just delivered hundreds of toys to the Children's Award.
02:07 - Are you going to be taking the trophy into school?
02:09 - Sure.
02:10 - Honestly, no, because I don't want it to get damaged.
02:13 (laughing)
