00:02 - In the long term, obviously they need Thatcher Demko,
00:07 but Casey DeSmith has been solid.
00:09 He's got an even 9.00 save percentage on the season.
00:13 He's played only 12 games.
00:15 That's the thing.
00:16 They played Thatcher Demko a lot this year.
00:19 Casey DeSmith has played in 12 games this year,
00:21 started 12 games.
00:22 He's eight and four.
00:24 It's an impressive record.
00:26 He's got a 2.40 goals against average.
00:29 And something that was very interesting
00:31 that Rick Talkett brought up
00:34 during his press conference yesterday,
00:36 during his media meeting was,
00:40 he said, "You know, I've been in the NHL for 30 years,
00:43 and I probably shouldn't say this,
00:44 but it is true," when he said,
00:47 "If the players like the goalie,
00:50 they're gonna play harder for the goalie,
00:52 and they'll block more shots."
00:54 And he even said, "I've been on some teams
00:56 where nobody liked the goalie,
00:57 and I gotta tell you, nobody was blocking anything."
01:00 And he went on to say about how Casey DeSmith
01:03 is one of the most popular guys on the team.
01:05 He made a point of that.
01:06 He goes, "Casey's like one of our most popular guys
01:09 in the room, and everybody loves him,
01:10 and he's done a great job for us,
01:12 and I'm expecting everybody to really play great around him."
01:17 And that's pretty honest coach speak
01:19 that you don't get from a lot of coaches.
