00:23 Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development

00:28 or DOSDPCARD, and Department of Agriculture Trento Research and Experiment Station,

00:34 Caragas State University or CSU in Butuan City was able to produce a pure black native chicken

00:40 called patani.

00:42 This is done through the breeding and selection process.

00:45 According to Dr. Tomas Ostral Jr., a faculty member of the College of Agriculture and Agroindustries of CSU

00:51 and a team leader of the project, patani is the only breed of native chicken in the country

00:56 that has a high level of black pigmentation in the skin, shank, plumage and bones with grayish meat.

01:03 We have to commercialize this one for the benefit for our entrepreneurs.

01:08 In other countries, they are already commercializing it and we are aiming for that one.

01:13 Because of its high black pigmentation, patani is more nutritious because it is full of antioxidants,

01:20 vitamins B, E, iron, phosphorous, calcium, amino acids, low cholesterol and others.

01:26 We have to double time our efforts.

01:28 We do value chain analysis to get the optimum price of this patani chicken which has better price

01:35 because of its nutritive advantage compared to other native chicken breeds.

01:40 Dr. Ostral also added that this year, they are already accepting applications from micro,

01:47 medium enterprises in the country to become multiplier farms of patani.

01:51 We will orient you on how to do breeding and selection,

01:56 on how to do management, nutrition, appropriate breeding programs that should be done and of course, marketing.
