00:00 Gavin Nix, four star linebacker class of 2025 out of powerhouse program.
00:06 IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
00:09 I know this is a player Miami is in heavy pursuit of Derek Nicholson, very
00:14 involved in his recruitment as is Mario Cristobal.
00:17 What can you tell me, uh, out of your conversation with Gavin Nix?
00:21 That is a very intelligent young man.
00:24 First off, he's looking at the recruiting process the right way.
00:26 He wants to take the right trips, who's got the best relationships with him.
00:30 Get those visits, you know, basically who's putting in effort.
00:33 And he's also looking at his opportunities to better himself.
00:36 Cause he wants to make it to the NFL.
00:37 Where can I gain the most?
00:39 So I asked him about Cristobal.
00:41 I asked him about Norvell and all these different coaches.
00:44 He had glowing things to say about both those guys, but like, there's a reason
00:48 like for state Miami or at the top, pretty much of his list close to home.
00:53 He's from Orlando originally.
00:54 So he didn't go very far to go to IMG and they just honestly are recruiting
00:58 him as part of the process.
00:59 Some I've talked about before.
01:01 It's one thing for an assistant from a school to be on you.
01:04 It's quite another for the head coaches.
01:06 Like to use Cristobal as an example, he says he talks to him almost every week.
01:10 That's I mean, think about how many times we've said something about that, whether
01:14 it's Gavin or somebody else with Cristobal, he really puts in the time to try to
01:18 communicate with these kids.
01:20 So they're not just dealing with a figurehead.
01:22 Some coaches don't want to talk to recruits all that much.
01:25 I know Brian Kelly's a little more like that, but he's selling LSU.
01:28 It's not the hardest thing, but still it makes a difference.
01:31 And that's one of the reasons Nick's is looking at the hurricane.
01:34 So closely six foot two 30 sideline to sideline could play either inside spot.
01:39 He'll be physically ready to play as a freshman and major college football.
01:42 Well, can you tell me about his recruiting timeline on visits?
01:46 Is he going to be down for an unofficial at Miami?
01:49 And do you have any idea?
01:51 Is he going to be a guy who may announce in the summer or could this
01:53 go in towards national signing day?
01:55 I asked him that specific question, Alex and Gavin told me his plan is
02:00 to take these trips in the spring.
02:01 And then based on, you know, which ones went well, you take a
02:05 handful of trips in the summer.
02:06 Then he wants to decide right before his senior season.
02:08 He was really hardline about that, which not many kids are, but again,
02:12 he's intelligent and he has a plan.
02:14 He wants to go and play his senior year at IMG without the thought process.
02:18 Okay.
02:18 What am I doing for college?
02:19 Right.
02:20 I think it's a good idea.
02:21 So he's going to visit Miami.
02:24 He's going to visit four, four state.
02:25 He's going to visit Tennessee, Notre Dame, Oregon, Texas A&M.
02:28 He's got a quite a few, but he's seven, eight schools.
02:32 He's down to most kids are lucky to be down to 10 right now.
02:34 And I really think at the end for stick, Miami could be the final two.
02:38 It's hard to say Ohio state's in there a little bit too.
02:41 So we'll see, but Miami is definitely getting one of the
02:45 unofficials.
02:45 He made that very clear.
