00:00 Question from Eric who says,
00:02 do you think Nick Saban's retirement
00:04 will have an impact in Miami becoming a powerhouse again
00:07 within the next few years?
00:09 It can't hurt Eric.
00:11 I mean, 'cause here's Nick Saban for, you know,
00:14 the last, how many years was he at Alabama?
00:17 16 years?
00:19 For the last, you know, decade and a half,
00:22 he was taking a lot of the top players out of your backyard.
00:25 You know, we'll see if Kalen DeBoer
00:27 becomes that sort of a force.
00:29 Obviously his more recent connections are out West,
00:33 but, you know, Saban was, you know,
00:36 the way Brian Hartline haunts us at Ohio State,
00:38 Saban was a big time thorn in our side in recruiting.
00:42 So hypothetically, maybe you can keep more players home.
00:44 And yes, there is one less great coach
00:47 in college football right now.
00:49 I think Georgia has kind of become that recruiting dynasty
00:53 that Alabama used to be under Kirby Smart,
00:55 but listen, taking Saban out of the national landscape,
00:58 it cannot hurt, okay?
01:00 It can only help Miami's chances and also, you know,
01:03 Florida State's chances and other teams
01:05 that are trying to become national powerhouses again.
01:08 We get a question from DatDude239 who says,
01:13 "Hey, does losing coaches to the NFL show the world
01:16 that Miami is on the rise?"
01:18 He says, "I would like to think so."
01:23 Listen, Jamil Adai doesn't get the offer
01:26 to become the Bills cornerbacks coach
01:29 if they didn't think he was doing a good job at Miami.
01:32 And if they didn't think that Miami's defensive backfield
01:35 was, you know, somewhat impressive
01:36 the last couple of years under Adai's tenure.
01:38 So that's a good thing.
01:40 You know, the Alonzo Highsmith thing, you know,
01:42 he was in the NFL for so many years
01:44 before he went back to the NFL.
01:46 But I'll say this,
01:49 if and when Miami becomes
01:53 a national powerhouse program again,
01:55 we're trying to get there, we're not there right now.
01:57 But if Miami becomes that again,
02:00 you gotta get used to losing coaches to promotions.
02:03 It happens.
02:03 That's what happens to successful staffs.
02:05 When you have successful coaching staffs,
02:07 your guys are gonna get poached by NFL teams.
02:10 That's just how this happens.
02:11 So, you know, you don't necessarily take it as a negative.
02:13 And I see some Miami fans who were like,
02:16 "This is chaos.
02:17 We're losing coaches now.
02:18 We lost a running backs coach and a defensive backs coach
02:21 and Zoe's leaving."
02:23 You know, get used to the turnover.
02:24 I mean, Tim Harris left for a promotion back at UCF.
02:28 Jamil Adai left for a promotion.
02:30 Alonzo Highsmith left for an NFL front office job.
02:33 Like this is the type of stuff
02:35 that happens to successful staffs.
02:37 People get poached for bigger opportunities.
02:40 We get a question from Big Canes fan who says,
02:43 "What position group are you most interested
02:46 in seeing perform at the spring game?"
02:48 If I said anything other than quarterback, I'd be lying.
02:52 I mean, I wanna watch Cam Ward.
02:55 I wanna watch Cam Ward in the spring game.
02:57 I wanna watch Poffenbarger.
02:59 I wanna watch Ja'Kari Brown again
03:01 to see how much more he's improving.
03:04 I don't know for sure if Emory Williams
03:06 is gonna be available for spring.
03:08 Judd Anderson, if he plays,
03:09 he'll probably get some PT in the spring game.
03:12 It's definitely quarterback for me.
03:13 Like, obviously, you know, you guys,
03:14 I could talk for hours about every position group
03:17 and who I'd like to see,
03:17 but number one for me is quarterback
03:20 because we're gonna go out,
03:21 we're gonna get to watch Cam Ward slinging it
03:23 in front of fans for the first time in a Miami uniform.
03:26 That's gonna be a lot.
03:27 It's gonna be a lot of fun.
03:29 We get a question from LL Cool Matt from Bama.
03:32 This is a really good question.
03:33 He says, "Hey, with the almost complete landscape change
03:37 in college football with an inept NCAA
03:41 that is now allowing unlimited transfers and no limit NIL,
03:45 we are witnessing dynasties like Alabama
03:48 start to lose depth on their rosters.
03:50 Oddly enough, Miami is finally starting to build depth."
03:54 He says, "Do you see this as a sustainable thing for Miami
03:58 under these rules,
03:59 or do you think Mario will start having issues
04:02 losing higher rated guys as well?"
04:04 That's an excellent question
04:06 because right now the NCAA landscape, you're right,
04:08 it's chaos, right?
04:10 And I'm happy players can get paid
04:12 'cause they have deserved to get paid for, you know,
04:14 for decades, centuries, but all, you know,
04:17 there's a lot of chaos that's coming with it.
04:19 And the transfer rules are ridiculous right now.
04:22 So it's creating chaos all over Matt,
04:25 but I do think Miami can thrive in this environment of chaos
04:30 compared to a lot of other schools.
04:32 Because, okay, something you notice,
04:35 not all the time, but a lot of the time
04:36 when players transfer, a common theme is
04:40 players who initially went far from home to school
04:44 tend to transfer closer to home
04:46 when they get that second opportunity.
04:48 So right there, that can help Miami bring
04:51 South Florida talent back who they initially missed out on.
04:55 Right, Henry Parrish was one of those guys
04:57 who started his career away from home.
04:59 He came back home to South Florida.
05:00 Also, a lot of transfers tend to shop
05:04 for better NIL situations when they transfer.
05:07 And I have reason to believe Miami is top five
05:11 in the country with their NIL situation
05:14 according to my knowledge of the landscape.
05:16 So that can help Miami as well.
05:18 Now, this environment of chaos, it's not ideal for anybody,
05:22 but I think Miami can probably thrive in that chaos
05:25 a little bit more than others can.
