00:00 And now we've just found out this is breaking news. Miami Hurricanes defensive backs coach
00:05 Jamil Adai, according to Bruce Feldman from The Athletic, coach Adai is expected to become the new
00:12 Bills cornerbacks coach. So he's going to the NFL. Jamil Adai, I think this is his first NFL coaching
00:19 job. He is a former NFL defensive back. Before coaching the DBs at Miami for the last two
00:25 seasons, 2022 and 2023, he was at Georgia and he was the co DC at West Virginia. Now I am of mixed
00:34 feelings here about coach Adai leaving. Now, the first thing I'll say is cannot blame anybody for
00:40 taking an NFL job, right? I mean, to go from DBs coach at Miami to cornerbacks coach in Buffalo,
00:47 that's a promotion. Okay. The other part of that is we're seeing this now with a lot of college
00:54 coaches with how rigorous of a job coaching, you know, whether you're an assistant coach or a head
01:00 coach or whatever, it's become so rigorous now with recruiting responsibilities increasing.
01:06 Cause you throw in NIL and all this other stuff. Like we're seeing more and more college coaches
01:11 leaving for NFL jobs, sometimes lateral moves, sometime promotion, sometimes demotions. We're
01:17 seeing more and more college coaches leaving for NFL jobs. It's becoming more and more common
01:22 because there's just, I think less hours that goes in to coaching in the NFL. But obviously
01:28 Jamila die leaving gives me mixed feelings because he does have overall a solid track record as a
01:34 college DBs coach. You know, for example, we go back to last year you know, I definitely have to
01:40 give him at least some credit for Tyreek Stevenson being drafted and an even bigger thing was DJ Ivy
01:47 getting drafted last year. He's about to get two safeties drafted. Well, even though James Williams
01:53 may become a linebacker at the NFL plate safety of Miami James Williams and cam Kitchens are about
01:58 to be drafted. They'll probably go a day to maybe early day three for James, but day two is not out
02:06 of the realm of possibility for him. So he's definitely done some good work here. Coaching
02:11 also, you know, there's, it's been a mixed bag in recruiting. Okay. Now I don't think Daryl Porter
02:17 jr. Who he coached at West Virginia. I don't necessarily think Porter who's played very well
02:21 would be here right now. If not for coach die, he probably also, you know, had something to do
02:27 with a key Mesidor, former West Virginia defensive lineman coming over to Miami.
02:33 Miami has had some hits, but they've also had some misses in defensive back recruiting. So
02:37 it's been kind of a mixed bag. You know, the other thing with coach a die is, you know, there have
02:42 been some stories about, you know, him not necessarily being the easiest guy to play for.
02:47 And maybe there being some friction with some of his players, but overall, I think he did a good
02:53 job at Miami and had he not done a good job at Miami probably wouldn't be being hired by an NFL
02:59 team right now. So obviously the track record and the recommendations were good enough that he's
03:04 leaving Miami to go to the Buffalo bills. So, you know, why are we seeing a lot of coaching
03:10 movement right now? Well, I think a big reason for that is now that we're in a no contact period or
03:18 a dead period when it comes to recruiting, it's a lot easier for head coaches to kind of assess
03:24 the staff and make decisions. It's not a coincidence that Miami is hiring their running backs coach now
03:30 that we're in the no contact period. So recruiting takes a back seat right now. You know, that also
03:35 means that, you know, a die kind of finished his cycle on the recruiting trail and now it's,
03:38 you know, time for him to look at the next adventure. So that's why there's a lot of
03:42 coaching movement happening right now around the country, because since recruiting has become such
03:47 a vigorous process, now that we're at a no contact period, it's easy to focus on some other things
03:52 and some administrative things. So, okay, Miami's just hired a running backs coach. Now they're
03:59 going to need to hire a cornerbacks coach. This is a breaking news episode, folks. I don't know
04:05 who's going to be interviewed. I don't know who the candidates are going to be because guess what?
04:09 No matter who we think the candidates are, Mario Cristobal's loafers work in silence. I didn't hear
04:14 anybody bring up Matt Merritt's name before he, he reportedly got that job as running backs coach.
04:21 But if I'm going to give you my two cents here, and you guys are probably already screaming this
04:27 in the comments, you know, you can, you can send me a tweet or an ex post at Locked on Canes. And
04:33 if you follow us, Locked on Canes, we will follow you back. You can flood our YouTube comments.
04:38 Y'all know who I want. Go bring DVD back. Bring back DeMarcus Van Dyke. I don't care what his
04:47 contract status is. He just, I don't, within the last several weeks, he, he, last year, he was the
04:54 defensive backs coach or cornerbacks coach at FIU. And he made the step up to USF, just took a job at
05:01 USF. You just stole the USF running backs coach. Now go out and steal USF's defensive backs coach.
05:10 I want DeMarcus Van Dyke back here. He bleeds orange and green, former very good Miami player,
05:16 very good defensive back at the University of Miami. Did a really bang up job here as an analyst.
05:21 I know he really wanted an on the field role at Miami and there just wasn't room for that.
05:26 There's room now.
