AllHurricanes' Liam Willerup breaks down his ACC Power Rankings
Transcript
00:00 What is going on allhurricanes.com? I'm Liam Willerup and welcome back to my week 14 ACC power rankings.
00:07 Coming in at the number one spot to no surprise,
00:10 it's the North Carolina Tar Heels. At 18-4 on the season and 10-1 in the ACC play,
00:17 they did just drop their first game in a close matchup against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets,
00:22 but followed that up with a big quad one win against the Duke Blue Devils.
00:27 Harrison Ingram and Armando Baycott led the way as RJ Davis had a cool 17 points as
00:33 they'll be playing hosts the Clemson Tigers this week before heading on the road to Coral Gables to take on the Miami Hurricanes.
00:40 Coming in at number two is the Virginia Cavaliers, jumping up one spot from last week. At
00:45 17-5 on the regular season and 8-3 in ACC play,
00:49 they currently have the largest winning streak in the conference at six games in a row.
00:53 And it's been in large part to guard Reese Beekman, who in 2024 is averaging 13.7 points,
01:00 6.9 assists and 2.9 steals per game.
01:03 However, their offense still isn't where you'd like it to be as they've only scored more than 70 points eight times this year.
01:09 They'll take on Miami tonight at home before going on the road to taste a Florida State Seminoles.
01:15 Coming in at the number three spot, dropping one spot is the Duke Blue Devils. At
01:20 16-5 on the regular season and 17-3 in ACC play.
01:25 They did just lose to the North Carolina Tar Heels,
01:28 but they did get a win against Virginia Tech beforehand and
01:30 freshman guard Jared McCain has been a standout addition to this team as he's been putting up averages of
01:36 16.6 points and 6.2 rebounds across his last five games.
01:40 They'll get a little bit easier week schedule going up against Notre Dame and Boston College both at home to get back on track.
01:48 Coming in at number four and bouncing back on this list is the NC State Wolfpack. After a three-game skid,
01:54 they're up now to 15-7 overall in 7-4 in ACC play.
01:59 It was a 25 point per game week for guard DJ Horn as they'll take on Pitt at home this Wednesday before
02:06 traveling to face the Wake Forest Demon Deacons this weekend.
02:10 And then at number five will be the Wake Forest Demon Deacons at 14-7 in 6-4 in ACC play.
02:17 They had a big-time win against the Syracuse Orange winning 99-70 and Hunter Salas has himself back in these ACC
02:24 Player of the Year conversation as he'll likely be on to the NBA after a phenomenal season as one of the top transfers in the country.
02:32 However, Wake needs to find some consistency in this team if they want to get out of the bubble as they'll hope for a 2-0
02:37 week as they'll have games at Georgia Tech in home versus NC State.
02:42 Coming in at number six is the Florida State Seminoles at 12-9 in 6-4 in ACC play.
02:48 They did lose against the Louisville Cardinals 101-92.
02:51 However, they've only played two games in the last nine days, so it's difficult to really get a judge on them.
02:57 However, despite the back-to-back losses, they'll have one of the best records in conference play still and they'll get chances at
03:03 with back-to-back home games with Virginia and Boston College.
03:09 Coming in at number seven is the Miami Hurricanes at 15-7 overall in 6-5 in ACC play.
03:15 Injuries continue to pile up with this team, but they're still managing to get the results done.
03:20 Wuga Poplar was not his usual self as he sustained an injury against Virginia Tech, but later came back into the game.
03:27 However, the talk of the town has been freshman guard Keyshawn George, who's been fantastic as a start of this season averaging 12 points per game,
03:35 4.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.3 steals per game, shooting over 40% from three.
03:41 They'll have a chance to make a big time splash as they'll go to
03:46 Virginia tonight with a game against North Carolina at home this coming weekend.
03:51 And lastly at the number eight spot making their appearance on this list is the Pittsburgh Panthers.
03:56 Coming in at 14-8 in 5-6 in ACC play.
03:59 They are 4-1 in their last five games with wins over Duke and Wake Forest.
04:04 Blake Henson continues to be the engine that drives them with 17 point outings in their last two contests.
04:10 However, if they want to be able to get involved in the mix of the tournament or potentially make a run in the ACC
04:15 tournament, they want to have some success going into this next week as they'll be going to North
04:22 Carolina State, but if they win there and they beat Virginia the following week, they could get themselves into this conversation.
04:28 Appreciate you all for listening. This is Liam signing out.
