00:00 That was a bit of a surprise commit that Miami got on Friday night.
00:03 I wasn't expecting anyone to commit that day and I certainly wasn't expecting this particular
00:09 player to commit any time soon.
00:11 I know Miami had been putting the work in, but they weren't really even trending for
00:16 Lamar Williams before they landed that verbal commitment from this guy on Friday night.
00:22 This is an offensive tackle out of Gadsden County High in Havana, Florida.
00:26 It's right near Tallahassee.
00:28 It's Florida State's backyard Havana, I think is the same hometown of Darryl Jackson, who
00:33 was a hurricane for a year, transferred to the Seminoles.
00:36 This young man, Mr. Williams, six foot seven, 280 pounds.
00:42 He had offers from Florida State right down the road, West Virginia, Maryland, and many
00:49 others.
00:50 He recently visited the Seminoles.
00:52 I know that some Florida State fans are like, "Why is Miami bragging about getting a guy
00:57 from Tallahassee?
00:58 We didn't even want this guy."
01:00 He was just visiting Florida State and in that photo he took with Mike Norvell, Coach
01:04 Norvell looked pretty happy about it.
01:06 That photo is going around the internet.
01:08 Good job for Miami to land this player because obviously landing players from Florida State
01:15 country, we see it happening a little bit more often.
01:17 We'll talk more about that for the hurricanes over these last few cycles under Mario Cristobal.
01:23 This player, Lamar Williams, as we established, six foot seven, 280, he is gigantic.
01:30 I am told he's a little bit raw.
01:32 My colleague, Brian Smith from all hurricanes, talks a lot with his high school coach, but
01:38 this is the type of player, and I've seen some of his tape, and he looks fantastic out
01:42 there.
01:43 Alex Mirabal has clearly identified Lamar Williams as someone that he can develop because
01:47 the ceiling on this player with that sort of size and footwork and athleticism, the
01:54 ceiling on this player is incredibly high.
01:57 With Cristobal and Mirabal, their track record for developing offensive linemen, for Cristobal
02:02 going back to all the jobs he's had, including Alabama and Oregon and Mirabal with him in
02:07 Oregon, they've got a great track record with that.
02:10 I love the sort of monsters that Miami is recruiting on the offensive line in recent
02:16 years.
02:17 I love the fact that the hurricanes, they just landed six foot eight Markel Bell, the
02:22 junior college offensive tackle for the class of 2024.
02:26 They've already got a six eight guy now stashed in the offensive line.
02:30 They're about to be landing a six foot seven guy.
02:33 They're still in it for another six foot eight guy who's announcing his decision soon.
02:38 This is how you build that great wall of Mirabal.
02:41 Maybe that's why they're also recruiting six foot seven quarterbacks like Judd Anderson,
02:45 because Judd's going to need to be that tall to see over that offensive line with just
02:49 the size of individuals that they're adding to that.
02:52 So back to Lamar Williams, he doesn't have a rating yet from 24/7 sports.
02:58 I think he's going to be doing more competitions and he's going to get more eyes on him from
03:03 scouts, so he'll probably get more ranking soon.
03:06 But he does have ratings on a couple of the other big recruiting services.
03:09 He's rated a four star by rivals and a high three star currently by on three.
03:15 That's strength.
03:17 Very natural looking footwork.
03:19 There is a video going around my guy, JNP, Jeremy Marks Peltz, put out a video of Lamar
03:24 Williams pancaking somebody in one of his high school games last year.
03:27 So there is going to be a lot to work with with this player coming to Miami.
