Kalen DeBoer, three and a half weeks from leaving the UW, sized up his new defensive backs.
Transcript
00:00 The defensive backfield, I think the priority there just some length.
00:05 And for between Peyton Waters and Josh Lair and Paul Minky,
00:10 probably more at the safety position.
00:12 That could be the safeties, that could be the nickel, the husky position.
00:18 And those guys, if you've seen them,
00:19 they're kind of all guys that can play different spots.
00:22 But I think you got great length in all of them.
00:26 You got some guys like Peyton, and Peyton in particular can do the kickoff returns,
00:32 punt return.
00:33 I mean, he's scoring touchdowns in a lot of different ways for
00:35 his football team down here, just down in California.
00:39 And just a lot of similarities, I think, between personalities.
00:44 Just consistent performances week in and week out between Peyton, Josh and Paul.
00:50 Josh, just a missile coming downhill,
00:54 anticipates, loves to come down and attack.
00:58 Not just the passing game, but the line of scrimmage and
01:01 makes a lot of plays in the backfield.
01:03 Paul Minky, sitting there roaming the secondary just on his film and
01:08 the things we've seen from him.
01:09 Really has that, that he can kind of see where the quarterbacks go on and
01:14 anticipate, get those first steps and he can really run.
01:18 I just love the way all these guys can move, but
01:21 there's been some times where I've seen him just track that guys down that you
01:25 never thought were gonna be possible.
01:26 So Paul was a late add to us, a guy that we went through the process with and
01:34 just stayed the course.
01:35 He's got some local family ties, as far as mom and dad, that grew up and
01:42 went through even college years here in the state of Washington.
01:47 So excited about all these guys and then Elias Johnson just down the road here.
01:53 And coming in as a corner, brings length, just getting some things even in
01:59 the return game where he shows out and is explosive that way.
02:03 So all those guys, a collective whole,
02:07 just really excited about what they can do in the secondary.
02:11 I think they're exactly what you're looking for.
