Alex Donno explains why Miami should be prioritizing experienced quarterback options instead of younger transfers with multiple years of eligibility remaining.
Transcript
00:00 You've seen names like Malachi Nelson from USC, who's got four years of eligibility left.
00:06 Or Jaden Maiava from UNLV, who's got three years of eligibility left.
00:11 You've seen names like this linked to Miami.
00:13 I'm not sold that that's the direction Miami wants to go in here, because I think the gap
00:21 and the need for your quarterback room is somebody who's got three or four years of
00:26 starters experience, right?
00:28 Because again, keeping Ja'Kari Brown means you've got Ja'Kari, who's one year older
00:34 than Emory, who's one year older than Judd Anderson, who's coming in, who's one year
00:38 older than Luke Nickel, who's committed for 2025.
00:41 And, you know, none of the guys who were on your roster right now have more than a
00:45 handful of starts under their belt.
00:47 They lack that experience.
00:48 So to me, it's like, I get it.
00:50 Like Malachi Nelson's a former five-star recruit.
00:54 You know, Jaden Maiava, I don't know, he's probably like a three-star, two-star recruit,
00:59 but he just had a pretty good year at UNLV.
01:01 Like I would understand why people would link Miami to players like that, but at the
01:05 same time, that doesn't really make a whole lot of sense because these guys are all
01:08 similar ages.
01:10 And in the case of Malachi Nelson, even less experience than the guys you already have
01:15 on your roster.
01:15 Like to me, with Ja'Kari Brown sticking around and him and Emory competing for the
01:20 next couple of years, I think the need that you have is to get somebody who can, you
01:26 know, try to elevate your team for one season before Brown or Emory Williams or Judd
01:33 Anderson are more experienced and ready to take over the following year.
01:37 So I, to me, it's like, it makes less and less sense why you would go after somebody
01:41 who is heading into their second or third year of college.
