00:00 I bet even when she screams in cartoons it still relaxes her so.
00:04 Here's your look at the NECA Toys Toonie Terrors Vampyra.
00:08 Bring the fun of Saturday morning cartoons to your horror collection with these adorable little creeps.
00:26 Pick your favorites or collect them all and make everyday Toonie Terror time.
00:31 Certainly don't want to waste any time.
00:33 Speaking of waste, there's like no waste at all of Vampyra, one of the notable traits of the character.
00:38 Of course, while I'm going ahead and measuring off the brand new Toonie Terrors Vampyra,
00:42 I'd like to thank the folks over at NECA Toys that once again did provide the sample we could have a look at.
00:46 Vampyra as well as all the rest of the lately looked at Toonie Terrors are available right now in retail stores and online.
00:52 Vampyra though stands 5 inches in height or the figures 13 centimeters tall.
00:57 To compare the horror hostess with the mostest, here's what the Vampyra looks like with the earlier looked at standing version Toonie Terrors Elvira.
01:04 I guess I could easily have brought in also the laying down Elvira on the couch,
01:07 but at least this gives you guys a size idea of how the figures are both scaled the same.
01:11 We recently also looked at the Toonie Terrors House of a Thousand Corpses Captain Spaulding.
01:16 You can see he's quite a large much larger figure when you compare them against the two female figures.
01:20 And speaking of other female figures, we can bring in the Toonie Terrors Exorcist Regan.
01:25 And because we never really get the chance to bring them in, here's also what they look like,
01:28 or here's what she looks like with the Toonie Terrors Shining Grady twins.
01:32 The Vampyra show first debuted on the Los Angeles TV station KABC-TV on April 30th, 1954.
01:40 And sadly, it lasted less than a year, wrapping up things on April 2nd, 1955.
01:45 Perfectly portrayed by actress Malin Nermi, her lasting power and influence is still something we see to this day.
01:51 Obviously being a big influence to Elvira, and still you see lots of Vampyra merchandise still on store shelves.
01:58 Now when it comes to the Toonie Terror release of her, she comes in clue with only one accessory, that being a skull.
02:04 I sort of have scratching my own skull trying to figure out what it serves.
02:08 Because looking at it, obviously you would just be thinking it's just a skull accessory.
02:11 It really isn't supposed to be doing anything, until you look actually at the bottom of the skull,
02:15 and realize there is a very unique style of peg on the bottom of this.
02:19 Almost as if it's supposed to belong to something.
02:22 Now, immediately I would have went to the approach of thinking it would be a swappable headpiece,
02:26 but obviously she would not be walking around with a skull.
02:29 And even then, to pop the head off, which I have, it is the same style of ball joint as we saw with the Elvira.
02:35 So you really can't then use this as a replacement head for this one.
02:39 Obviously, unless you just wanted to sit this on the ball joint loose.
02:42 I don't understand really what specifically this is for.
02:45 If this was completely closed shut, then I would just imagine this would just be something that she's going to be displayed along with.
02:51 I mean, you could take the figure for all intents and purposes, you could bring her arm up,
02:55 but she only doesn't have, she doesn't have first of all the swiveling in her arms, first of all.
02:59 She only has the swiveling in her shoulders.
03:01 So even then, it's not as if you'd be able to really rotate the figure's arm, and have her holding the skull.
03:06 Again, I'm not really sure why there had to be this specific hole in the bottom of it.
03:10 I'm going to put this to the side for at least right now.
03:13 And as we get though a closer look at Vampyra, a really nice release.
03:17 This is one of those figures that I always felt would belong as a Toonie Terror.
03:21 Now up to this point, of course, we've always gotten the follow-up figure,
03:24 sort of more the 80s version of Vampyra with that being Elvira.
03:27 And you can see there's definitely a lot of influence really between the two style of characters.
03:31 One thing that's always been notable about Vampyra is her very narrow waist.
03:36 Something that Mela Nurbian was always really proud of, the fact that she had as narrow of a waist as she did.
03:41 But it's also one of those things that gave her that instantly looked at kind of hourglass figure.
03:46 Her face is very iconic in the fact that she does have the little mole off to the side,
03:50 long flowing locks of black hair, and very high eyebrows.
03:54 Nicely captured here on Nekka's part.
03:57 Now again, this being a Toonie Terror release, very limited on the way of the articulation.
04:01 I mean, if you were to say, "Look at this." I mean, we can run through this right now.
04:04 I almost suspected, first of all, that the figure would have had, say, waist swivel.
04:08 Because you would have thought, like, they were drawing attention to the fact that the figure has as narrow of a waist as she does.
04:13 And yet, there's no waist articulation. As much as I try, as much as I want, you can't actually move the waist on Vampyra.
04:20 You can, however, though, move her head, but there's very limited limitations to that.
04:24 Simply because she has the hair really so close to her shoulder, you really can't move the head back and forth.
04:30 Really, if anything, the only poseability that she possesses is only just strictly in her shoulders.
04:35 And that allows, again, the arms to rotate all the way around.
04:38 You could have her giving, for example, a very surprised look on her face.
04:41 Or again, you can also have the arms a little bit more higher up, as if she's kind of creeping through,
04:46 or kind of walking her way towards you in that sort of fog-like hallway that she would have at the opener of the series.
04:52 Now, interestingly enough, though, on the bottoms of the figure's feet, she doesn't really have any feet for that matter.
04:57 She's very, very similar in the way of Elvira, in the fact that she doesn't actually have sculpted feet.
05:02 But what they've done instead is kind of given the outline of where her dress would be, and then sort of snaking out from that.
05:09 This sort of looks like an octopus, a shadowed-like octopus.
05:13 All these nice little points that they've sculpted out from the dress itself.
05:16 It's a very nicely sculpted, very simple-looking design, but it's one of the things that I always remembered about Vampyra.
05:22 There's been lots of caricatures of her.
05:24 She's always one of those characters that appear on t-shirts, stickers, and anything you can really think of when it comes to any monster merchandise.
05:31 Vampyra's right up there, along with Elvira.
05:33 And I'm really glad to see that she really did get the honored place, the honored position, really, to have a Toonetail release from NECA Toys.
05:42 Yes, again, she is very limited when it comes to the articulation, but that sort of goes with the territory when it comes to these Toonetails.
05:47 You're really not going to be getting much of anything when it comes to these.
05:50 At the very least, usually, even when we looked at Elvira, for example, her head was really only just, again, on the ball joint, and she only had just the swivels in her arms.
05:57 So really, for that matter, Vampyra is pretty much exactly the same build of body.
06:01 Maybe not the same build of body.
06:03 While she maybe doesn't have as much on the top there, she certainly has a lot less of it down below in her waist.
06:10 A really nice release. If you get the chance to find this one, a really nice release from the folks over at NECA Toys.
06:16 It's funny that I mention the similarities between Vampyra and Elvira, because in 1988, Malin Nurmi, the actress that played Vampyra back in the 50s, tried to sue Cassandra Peterson for like $10 million, stating that she was trying to steal her act.
06:28 Stating that Elvira very much similarly looked like Vampyra.
06:33 I think in the end, the courts actually ruled it out in favor of Peterson, and I don't think the actresses ever really reconciled after that.
06:40 Which is a bit of shame, because you would have really liked to think that there could have been actually opportunities where the two actresses could have gotten together and done some collaboration with Vampyra and Elvira.
06:50 Missed opportunity, but not a missed opportunity, of course, on NECA's part to finally give us, yes, a Tooney Terrors release of Vampyra.
06:57 Looking just as ghoulish as she did in the original 50s series, I'm still kind of perplexed as to why she came and included that specific skull.
07:04 I wouldn't be as worried or wondering as to why the skull has to have, or be an accessory, if it didn't have a hole on the end of it.
07:11 The fact that it has a hole, it makes me think that it belongs to something else.
07:14 Maybe it was supposed to be an accessory that went along with the skull, and NECA just ultimately scrapped it.
07:19 Because it isn't a case where you're going to be swapping it out.
07:21 I mean, it's not like we're going to be walking around Elvira, Vampyra here, with a skull on the top of her head.
07:26 I just don't understand why it had to be a peg on the bottom of it.
07:28 Unless it was just a way to make it hollow, so they didn't have to make it as a full solid piece of plastic.
07:32 That's my only guess.
07:34 Does anybody have any ideas as to why that skull has to have a unique peg hole?
07:37 Let me know down below in the comments section.
07:39 A big thank you once again, though, to the folks over at NECA Toys that did provide the sample of the brand new Tooney Terrors Vampyra,
