Xavier Restrepo is going to "run it back" and return to the Miami Hurricanes for his final season.
Transcript
00:00 Uh, my heart was warmed this morning when I saw Xavier Restrepo announce he is running
00:07 it back next season at Miami.
00:11 Thank goodness for that.
00:13 Miami needs X's playmaking.
00:16 We need his experience.
00:17 We need the leadership and the continuity that he brings to the roster next year.
00:22 And you know, if anybody thought, well, X, he could only catch passes from Van Dyke.
00:28 X had a pretty awesome game with Ja'Kari Brown throwing him footballs yesterday.
00:32 Had a touchdown, should have had two touchdowns, 11 grabs for 99 yards and a touchdown.
00:38 His route running sets an incredible example.
00:41 I mean, I wish that, you know, more players followed X's example of precision and route
00:46 running, hard work, attention to detail, and his technique and athleticism are on point
00:51 as well.
00:52 Xavier Restrepo.
00:53 So yeah, I thought he was probably Miami's MVP of the pinstripe bowl yesterday and one
00:59 of Miami's most important players all season long.
01:03 So I have only nice things to say about X.
01:06 If everyone had played with the sort of effort that Restrepo played with yesterday and that
01:11 Ruben Bain played with yesterday and Ja'Kari Brown, Miami would have won the game if everybody
01:17 played like that.
01:18 Okay.
01:19 On the season, Restrepo, and he had a, he had an important game yesterday when it came
01:23 to milestones because in the pinstripe bowl, Restrepo went over 1000 yards for the season,
01:30 which is obviously a great milestone for any wide receiver.
01:33 He finishes the year with 1092 receiving yards.
01:37 And he also broke Miami single season receptions record.
01:42 When he got his 80th catch, he broke that record.
01:45 He ended up with 85 catches on the year, had 11 catches yesterday.
01:49 So Restrepo, one of the major bright spots of the season for Miami and one of the very
01:55 few bright spots in the pinstripe bowl yesterday.
01:59 And you know, so with Restrepo, it's big that he decides to stay in Miami because listen,
02:04 we've seen players that don't have as high.
02:08 I don't know exactly how high his NFL draft stock would have been.
02:11 He would have been drafted.
02:12 Right.
02:13 And we we've seen players with draft stock lower than his decide to leave.
02:17 He decided to stay.
02:19 And also it's worth pointing out that, you know, he and Tyler Van Dyke are obviously
02:23 very close, great chemistry on the field, best of friends off the field.
02:28 When Van Dyke hit the transfer portal, a lot of people, I didn't really fall into this
02:32 because I know X loves it in Miami, but a lot of people, when Van Dyke hit the transfer
02:37 portal thought maybe Restrepo is going to follow him wherever he, Van Dyke ends up in
02:41 Wisconsin.
02:42 You know what?
02:43 I don't think Restrepo wants to be in Wisconsin.
02:44 Most human beings don't.
02:46 So Restrepo deciding to stay is very important.
02:50 And guys, let's not forget, um, knowing that you have a weapon like that, that's going
02:57 to make things a little bit more attractive for cam ward or any transfer quarterback who
03:01 decides to be in Miami, knowing you have X in place, right?
03:05 Um, obviously you've lost a Colby young to Georgia.
03:10 Looks like Brashard Smith is probably on his way out.
03:13 Uh, unfortunately, and listen, I love Brashard.
03:17 Thankfully, Miami does have young guys who can do a lot of the same things that he does.
03:22 Ray Ray Joseph and Nicar coming in from high school.
03:24 They can hopefully, and I think Colby, uh, I think Brashard Smith should have been used
03:29 a lot more this past year.
03:31 Hopefully you find a way to use Ray Ray Joseph and Nicar the way you should have been using
03:36 Brashard Smith for the last couple of years.
03:38 I like Isaiah Horton.
03:39 I think Isaiah Horton also had a really good game, had some big time catches yesterday.
03:43 Uh, he's definitely a candidate to be a starter next year to fill that spot that Colby young
03:48 left and, uh, folks we're being real here.
03:51 Um, Miami, obviously quarterback is objective number one in the transfer portal right now.
03:57 One of your other topic, uh, objectives, you need at least one more experienced wide receiver
04:02 to come in because there are, there are a lot of good players and you have a trio of
04:05 awesome true freshmen coming in.
04:07 Jojo trader, Nicar, who I already mentioned chance Robinson.
04:10 These guys of course will be very young.
04:12 Uh, Ray Ray Joseph and Robbie Washington are still very young heading into next year.
04:16 Uh, I still think you need to go to the transfer portal to get another receiver and also a
04:21 guy you brought in last year.
04:22 I hope Shamar Kirk can play a bigger role in 2024 than he played in 2023.
